RESTON, Va. — Fairfax County animal control officers have charged the director of the Reston Zoo with animal cruelty.
Megan Mogensen, 26, of Silver Spring, Md., was arrested Friday following a 5-month investigation, authorities said.
The probe began after officers got a complaint about the circumstances surrounding the death of a wallaby.
In addition to the animal cruelty charge, Mogensen was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Authorities said the zoo did not have the appropriate permits or training to dispense the euthanasia drug that was used to kill the animal.
