MASON CITY, Iowa – A man accused of torturing and killing a dog and leaving his infant daughter alone has changed his tune.

27-year-old Dacota Alan Witham of Mason City has now changed his plea to guilty for domestic abuse assault-3rd or subsequent offense, child endangerment and animal neglect.  Witham had been charged with animal torture, but prosecutors agreed to amend that count as part of a plea deal.

Witham was arrested after police were called about an assault on August 9.  After investigating, officers found a dog in Witham’s garage that had been killed in an inhumane manner.  Authorities also say Witham left his 7-month-old daughter unattended.

His sentencing is scheduled for October 8.
