A group of animal activists staged a protest today in Beijing in a bid to stop a Chinese dog-eating festival set to occur later this month.

This must stop: A group of around 30 animal activists staged a protest today in Beijing in a bid to stop the Yulin dog meat festival

The demonstration, initiated by three animal protection groups, submitted a petition allegedly signed by over 11 million people, calling on the Chinese authorities to end the Yulin dog meat festival.

The annual festival, which takes place in south China’s Guangxi Province, sees tens of thousands of animals beaten to death, cooked and sold on the market to celebrate summer solstice.

Around 30 activists carried out the protest outside of the Yulin government office as the petition was presented to the authority by three animal charities: Humane Society International, VShine and Beijing Mothers Against Animal Cruelty.

Pictures from today’s event show animal campaigners, many of whom brought their own pet dogs, holding signs saying ‘Scumbag of China’ in English and ‘Shame on Yulin’ in Simplified Chinese.

Wendy Higgins, the Director of International Media at Humane Society International, said over 11 million signatures had been collected worldwide through the internet to demand the festival to stop.

The petition also included signatures gathered by four other international animal welfare organisations. They are RaiseURPaw in Canada as well as the Duo Duo Project, Care2 and Avaaz from the United States.

The petition has been accepted by officials from the Yulin government in Beijing, according to Ms Higgins.

Peter Li, the China Policy Expert at Humane Society International, attended the protest in Beijing today.

Mr Li told MailOnline:

‘There was a huge presence of police, but our hand-in went very peacefully. It was a great feeling to join with our Chinese partner group activists in Beijing today, there was a tremendous sense of determination to get our voices heard to the global media, and to let the world know that many people across China want the brutal Yulin dog meat festival shut down.

He added: ‘We gave a show of strength and defiance against the dog thieves and the blatant animal cruelty, to say loudly – you will not steal our best friends!

‘I hope that the authorities listen, they really should do as the strength of public upset about Yulin and the trade here in China is really growing.

‘Next stop for me is Yulin, where I have been a number of times before, for the grim task of visiting the slaughterhouses before the festival starts.’

Xu Yufeng, founder of Beijing Mothers Against Animal Cruelty who were also present at the protest, said: ‘Yulin is a total embarrassment to China.

‘Its failure to stop mass dog slaughter and mass dog consumption shows that the local authorities are not doing their job to protect the people, especially young children.

‘We urge the Yulin authorities to stand on the right side of history and to end the “festival” in the interests of public security, food safety, social morality and China’s reputation.’

Another member of the protesters, Pan Danyang from China-based small animal protection group VShine, said:

‘This is the third year of our participation in the nation-wide campaign against the Yulin dog meat festival. ‘Since we have over the last few years helped accommodate dogs rescued from the dog meat trade, we know Yulin’s dog meat market relies on dogs from suspicious sources. ‘I hope that Yulin authorities will take actions to stop the dog trucks from going into their city so that the mass slaughter on the summer solstice day won’t happen.’

Thai Monk Caught Feeing Temple With Tiger Skins

Wildlife authorities in Thailand have found adult tiger skins and fangs during a raid on the “tiger temple” tourist attraction and intercepted a monk who was trying to leave in a car that was carrying skins. Separately, officials said they would press charges against the Buddhist temple after 40 tiger cubs were found in a freezer on Wednesday.

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) moved in this week to relocate 137 tigers to government-run sanctuaries after repeated allegations of animal trafficking. The temple claims the tigers will be worse off.

“Today we found tigers skins and amulets in a car which was trying to leave a temple,” said Adisorn Noochdumrong, the deputy director of the DNP. He said a search of several monks’ quarters yielded further body parts, bringing Thursday’s haul to two full-body tiger skins, about 10 fangs and dozens of pieces of tiger fur.

Volunteers, staff and monks at Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua temple complex have long denied trafficking allegations. But international animal rights groups including WWF and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals applauded the raid. Police Col Bandith Meungsukhum told AFP the dead cubs would have been one or two days old. He said their DNA would be tested to see if they were related to tigers at the temple.

The temple claims it decided in 2010 to stop cremating the cubs and preserve them to “keep as proof against the allegations of selling cubs”.

Thailand is a central route for the illegal wildlife trade through south-east Asia, including for ivory, rhino horn and live animals. Tiger parts, including bones and penises, are used in traditional Chinese medicine.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species banned the trade in tiger parts and products in 2007. The raid is the culmination of a battle that has been going on for years between the government and the temple. Thailand has an estimated 1,200-1,300 captive tigers.

VIDEO Movie Trailers; CRY OF THE INNOCENT: The Voices That Can’t Speak

Comments Off on VIDEO Movie Trailers; CRY OF THE INNOCENT: The Voices That Can’t Speak

“BE THE CHANGE…Please support this movie; donate what you can! Read the information, digest it, then share it will everyone you know! Nobody needs the skin of an animal except the animal, their fur is to protect them from the elements; not us!!! Please do whatever you can to stop this inhumane trade; read the MISSION statement below, read the links & sign petitions, thanks!”

Every year, more than 50 MILLION fur-bearing animals, including man’s best friend and feline companion, are brutally murdered without mercy in the name of greed, vanity and ignorance.  The fur trade is criminal and an atrocity at the lowest level of inhumanity.  To address the issue of animal cruelty in our society is to address the complexity of the human condition and our collective consciousness, which perceives animals as commodities, rather than loving, sentient beings.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:  This compelling film reflects the need of a changing society and its revolution for evolution – not a battle with armor but a quest for spiritual epiphany and the redemption of our planet.

THE CRY OF THE INNOCENT: The voices that can’t speak

Published on 2 Dec 2013

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR:

This film speaks the voice of truth for those who cannot speak for themselves.  It does not rely on gruesome images as a means to convey the message, but it does reveal the reality.

This precedent-setting film will unveil the spiritual truth behind the veil of a culture that perpetuates the holocaust of animals for personal gain.  Its pure intent is to probe into the deeper level of the psyche, so that the nemesis can be healed.

If we cannot witness inhumanity, we cannot empower humanity, and we fail as a “human” species.  If we are not willing to hear their cries or experience their terror, then we are not willing to bear witness to the truth, which is the only path to redemption and transformation.

This film is one that needs to be made, for it would be a tragedy of epic proportions to passively consent to the silence of mass murder for profit and self-aggrandizement.

I have asked myself the question: If not me, then who?  Someone needs to make this film, to beckon the soul of humanity to awaken.  That’s us, you and me.  If not us, then who?  If not now, when?

Without our voice, the animals have no voice.

Thank you for your support of this critical film, on behalf of the animals and humanity on our planet.

Animal rights is the greatest social justice issue of our time

MISSION

“A lie goes half way around the world before truth puts on its boots.” – Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens)

What is the state of our world’s conscience when we can tolerate the needless and horrific act of a sentient being skinned alive for its fur and empower the industry that profits from such atrocity?

Social responsibility, ecological preservation and evolution of consciousness are the challenges of this decade.  It is evident that we have not yet fully evolved as a society when the unconscionable practices and cruelty of the fur trade, and the inhumane suffering of all afflicted animals, is still a reality in the 21st century.  The killing of defenceless animals is an atrocity and reprehensible violation of the innocent, and should no longer be tolerated in a civilized and evolved society.

What is the price an innocent animal must pay for the sake of commerce, in the guise of fulfilling society’s needs?  Does our desire for material adornment outweigh human compassion and empathy?

How can we witness the massacre of innocent baby seals taken from their mother while nursing in Canadian waters and condone such an egregious act by continuing to invest in Canadian products, tourism and Canada’s stock market?

What is the state of society’s consciousness when man’s “best friend” and “feline companion” are mutilated and heinously killed for the skin on their bodies?  Where are the laws to protect them?  And why do we continue to invest in China and export their products to North America?

The impetus that drives the fur trade is the fashion industry, and film is the most powerful medium in which to convey the truth.

This precedent-setting film will leave an indelible imprint on the soul of humanity, intuitively evolving the collective consciousness toward sustainable change by bridging the link to cruelty through the soul perspective, with its center on the fur trade as a paradigm of a larger nemesis permeating our world.

AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY ON OUR PLANET

This critical film is a calling for transformational social evolution.

The impact of the film’s message will intuitively evolve the collective consciousness toward fundamental and sustainable change and iinstilthe principles of compassion, empathy, love and humanity on our planet, and in turn, save the lives of countless animals around the globe. The power of respect will change our world.

We will unite in a new world paradigm that stands in the power of good that will forever overcome the forces of evil and harm to all sentient beings and mother earth.

The way our animals are treated is the moral and spiritual compass of our humanity.

The World Will Change Through You.  No Other Means Can Save It.

IF NOT YOU, THEN WHO?  IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

Phil Wolf and his wife care for cats in the quiet Lakeside community, east of Port Clinton. Some of the cats are feral, and others are friendly.

In recent months, someone in the community has been poisoning the cats, and others have gone missing. Wolf had necropsies performed on two of his favourite cats, who were found dead on his property Memorial Day weekend and verified that they’d been poisoned.

At least nine cats have fallen victim to the anonymous killer.

The Ottawa county Humane Society is investigating, because poisoning animals is a crime. The administrators of Lakeside have stated they will not tolerate the poisoning of any animals and will prosecute the killer if found.

There is a reward of $3,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.

Hoarder Sisters In Georgia Face Cruelty And Exploitation Charges

Comments Off on Hoarder Sisters In Georgia Face Cruelty And Exploitation Charges

Snellville, GA – Two Georgia hoarders, sisters Elisha and Leah Waller, both face charges for animal cruelty and the exploitation of a disabled adult.

Arrests were made Wednesday after authorities discovered 31 dying cats, a dog, and a disabled young man cramped inside a filthy hotel room the night before, according to the Huffington Post.

The women were ultimately exposed after several people staying at the Snellville hotel reported smelling an overpowering stench emanating from the room the Waller sisters shared.

Police identified the disabled man as Leah Waller’s 19-year-old son, who has cerebral palsy. He was found trapped in the filthy room, confined to his wheelchair amid massive amounts of animal feces, urine saturation, and garbage, reports WSBTV.

Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term denoting a group of non-progressive conditions that cause physical disability in human development.

The felines were found, many of them suffering with upper respiratory infections, open soars, and missing hair. Only two were deemed fit enough to survive. The rest, 29 in total, were euthanized.

According to local animal control, there was no other option than to humanely euthanize them due to their unhealthy condition.

This is the sisters’ second abuse-related arrest in less than two months.

Hoarding is a compulsive behavior to pathologically collect to excess, obsessively acquiring objects or even animals. However, hoarders are incapable or unwilling to discard the aforementioned acquisitions, regardless of the clutter, filth, danger or disease that can result, as doing so can cause significant distress or impairment.

Compulsive hoarding has been associated with health risks, impaired functioning, economic burden, and can result in adverse effects on friends and family members – creating frustration-fueled rifts between loved ones. Parents have had children taken away and couples have divorced over hoarding.

The troubling condition often stems from some type of psychologically engrained trauma. For one reason or another, a hoarder developed an unhealthy attachment, clinging to the otherwise innocuous, valueless item others would throw away.

The act of hoarding is dangerous as it puts the individual or others at risk from fire, falling, poor sanitation, and other health concerns.

Texas Man Headed To Prison For Killing Kitten

Comments Off on Texas Man Headed To Prison For Killing Kitten

DALLAS (June 28, 2013)—Edwon Julian, 36, of Dallas, man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing his girlfriend’s kitten “Kisses” as the couple argued.

Julian was convicted of felony animal cruelty, but jurors acquitted him of assaulting the woman during the same incident in 2012.

Prosecutors say Julian has a previous conviction from a 2004 incident in which a toddler he was caring for was scalded.

Testimony indicated Julian and Rosa Dismuke got into an argument last July at her apartment in Richardson.

Investigators say Julian grabbed the kitten, swung the animal by the tail and let go.

The cat was thrown off the second-story balcony, hit a drainpipe and landed on the pavement.

Kisses died at the scene.

Rare White Tiger Used As Pakistani Campaign Mascot Dies of Dehydration In 30C Heat

Comments Off on Rare White Tiger Used As Pakistani Campaign Mascot Dies of Dehydration In 30C Heat

  • The tiger is the symbol of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party
  • The dead tiger often appeared at rallies and belonged to a party member
  • Breed is extremely sensitive to noise and heat, says the WWF

A rare white tiger that has appeared at rallies during Pakistan’s election season has died of dehydration.

The tiger, a mascot of the conservative Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party, often appeared at events led by the party chief’s daughter Maryam Nawaz.

It fell unconscious and was taken to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Lahore on Tuesday night.

The white tiger has been a frequent sight at rallies for the political party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz – but died following 30C heat

But vets could not save the animal, which belonged to a party worker, and it died yesterday morning.

Live tigers and lions are a familiar sight to those at PML-N’s rallies. Last week a complaint was made to the Election Commission but it said the matter did not fall under its remit, reports Dawn.

The World Wide Fund for Nature said white tigers are extremely sensitive to heat and noise and that the animal could not cope with Lahore’s 30C heat and the noise of the rallies.

The WWF said it is supporting a petition by actor and conservationist Faryal Gohar at the Lahore High Court against the illegal use of wild animals at rallies.

Pastor’s Animal Cruelty Trial Draws A Crowd

Comments Off on Pastor’s Animal Cruelty Trial Draws A Crowd

The misdemeanor trial of a pastor charged with animal cruelty in the death of a cat drew a crowd of 25 onlookers Monday, overshadowing the Bastrop County commissioners meeting next door.

The defendant, 56-year-old Rick Bartlett, the former pastor of Bastrop Christian Church, was the chaplain for the Bastrop Police Department at the time the cat died. The crowd in the courtroom

Rick Bartlett

included Sarah and Eddie Bellowners of Moody, the dead cat — who are suing Bartlett for damages, and Sheila Smith who heads Shadow Cats, a Central Texas nonprofit cat rescue.

Bartlett, who had complained of strays in his neighborhood, trapped the cat and took it to the police department Jan. 17, 2012. Animal control officer Susan Keys pointed out that the cat had tags with the address and phone number for its owners, and offered to return it to them, an arrest affidavit says.

But Bartlett convinced Keys to allow him to return the cat. According to the affidavit, after Bartlett drove away Moody either fell or jumped out of the cage because the cage door had been left open.

Moody was found, badly injured, under the tall bridge over the Colorado River near downtown. Prosecutors allege Bartlett, who last had custody of Moody, was careless and charged him with animal cruelty, a Class A misdemeanor.

Bartlett had nothing to do with the cat’s death, his attorney said. A five-man, one-woman jury is deciding the case this week.

Keys, who no longer works with animal control, was one of the first witnesses. She testified that while she has no personal knowledge of how the cat ended up on a walking path in the park with serious injuries, she had last seen it with Bartlett, and she became suspicious of his story when questioning him two days later.

A former Bastrop pastor is on trial for animal cruelty in connection with the death of Moody, the cat.

“I trusted him to do that,” said Keys of allowing Bartlett to return the cat to its owners. Keys later went to the park in response to an injured animal call, and took the cat to a veterinarian’s office, where it died.

Keys testified she called Bartlett on Jan. 19 to ask if he knew what happened. “I asked him if he let the cat out of the trap. He said, ‘no.’ He said he went back to the church and it was ‘just gone.’

Keys said she turned the case over to police. “I became suspicious about him being honest,” she said. Under questioning by county prosecutor James Rhodes, Keys also said she learned that Bartlett changed his story when talking to police. “I did hear that,” she said. Defense attorney Chris Dillon objected to the statement as hearsay.

In his opening statement to the jury, Dillon said the cat was fine when Bartlett last saw it. “Rick came back to the church and parked in the shade to protect the cat. At about 1 p.m., he let the cat out of the cage. Three-and-a-half hours later the cat was found,” he said.

Testimony resumes Thursday morning. Dillon said Monday he had not decided whether Bartlett will take the stand.
