Baby Girl Is Mauled To Death By Pitbull: Neighbours Say They Warned Police Of The Danger As Couple Are Arrested

Comments Off on Baby Girl Is Mauled To Death By Pitbull: Neighbours Say They Warned Police Of The Danger As Couple Are Arrested

“How many times do we have to go over this; it’s the bloody owners that give this breed a bad rap! Irresponsible owner’s are one of the major causes for all the problems the breed faces today.  Pitbulls have long been selectively bred, over the years to be fighting machines, they are sturdy & strong with a powerful bite force; genetics & training play an important role in how the dog will respond to other dogs or humans. Pitbulls are not inherently aggressive to people; unless taught to be!

Some owners (Perhaps the boyfriend) just want a pitbull to use as a power status or for intimidating others; which is just an accident waiting to happen; and it did!  This tragedy could have been avoided had the owner been a responsible one & kept the dog under control; instead of it being allowed to roam freely around the house, whilst they watched TV? The mother must have been aware of the dogs temperamentt; why didn’t she insist the dog be put in a crate or a locked room; whenever the baby was around? No dog should be left unattended with children; especially babies!  The owner would have known, without doubt, what his dog was capable of doing; for that reason, I think they should both be held responsible for this terrible tragedy! • 11-month-old Ava-Jayne Corless attacked by pet late last night
  • Neighbours report seeing ‘vicious and terrifying’ pit bull type dog
  • Victim’s mother and stepfather arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and bailed this morning
  • Baby’s father pays tribute to ‘the most beautiful and adorable little girl’
  • Lancashire Police say dog involved in the attack was a banned breed

A baby girl was mauled to death by a dog that neighbours had allegedly warned was dangerous.

Ava-Jayne Corless, who was just 11 months old, suffered horrific injuries when the American pitbull terrier attacked her while she slept.

Her mother, Chloe King, 20, and  boyfriend Lee Wright, 26, heard the commotion and rushed upstairs to rescue her from the jaws of the beast.

Paramedics were called and took Ava-Jayne to hospital where doctors were unable to save her life.

Victim: Ava-Jayne Corless, aged 11 months, has been mauled to death by a pet dog

Miss King and Mr Wright were questioned on suspicion of manslaughter and child neglect, and were today released on bail.

Lancashire Police said: ‘The two people arrested in connection with the death of Ava-Jayne Corless at Blackburn have both been released on bail pending further inquiries.’

Parents: Ava-Jayne pictured with her father Dean and mother Chloe, who are no longer together

A police spokesman said last night that the animal was banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991.

Senior officers have launched an investigation into reports that neighbours had called Lancashire Constabulary to complain about dangerous animals at the property in Blackburn.

Faisal Shahzad, 35, fled after two dogs broke through his garden fence. ‘I had to run quickly into the house and barricade the door because they were tearing after me,’ said the taxi driver.

‘I’ve got three children and they were all in the house absolutely terrified. The two dogs were scary. I called the police and they said something would be done and my neighbour also called the RSPCA.’

Another neighbour, 80-year-old Brian Harrison, said: ‘That dog was a nightmare for neighbours and people were worried about approaching it.

‘It’s an absolute tragedy that should never have happened. ‘Only last year it mauled to death a neighbour’s cat and nothing was done about it.’

Kyle Perry, 19, was chased down the street by the dog. ‘It was a big dog and it used to just bark and bark,’ he said. ‘I have been chased by it down the street. It was terrifying.’

Blackburn MP Jack Straw said: ‘What will it take to convince people not to keep dogs like this – and to get across to all dog-owners, of every breed of dog, that no dog should ever be left unsupervised with a baby?’

The incident happened at around 11pm on Monday while Miss King was visiting Mr Wright at his home 40 yards from hers.

The pair are understood to have put the baby to sleep in a bedroom and were watching television downstairs when they heard the attack begin. By the time they reached Ava-Jayne she had suffered catastrophic injuries. The dog was destroyed.

Chief Superintendent Chris Bithell said previous contact with neighbours would form part of the police investigation.

Last night,  police said the dog had been identified by experts as a pitbull.
Owners cannot be prosecuted for dog attacks on private property until new legislation comes into force this spring.

Arrest: The victim’s stepfather Lee Wright is being questioned by police on suspicion of manslaughter

Tougher sentences will be introduced under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill.

Rachel Cunningham, of the Blue Cross animal charity, said: ‘We can only hope the Government’s planned changes to the bill will allow authorities to step in at the first sign of a dangerous dog and help prevent terrible events like this.’

Jennie Rudd, of animal welfare campaign group Naturewatch Foundation, said dog attacks were caused by irresponsible owners.

Danger: The dog was described as a ‘menace’ before the attack and previously killed a neighbour’s cat

She added: ‘If it has aggressive tendencies it is the owner’s responsibility to make sure it never gets near a child, and that it isn’t forced into situations where it feels it has to attack – because there is always a reason for a dog to bite.’

Last night Ava-Jayne’s father, Dean Corless, 24, said he was devastated by the tragedy: ‘I rushed to the hospital to see her straight away.

‘She was the most beautiful and adorable little girl, she was just the best. She was my  whole world. Her mum and I aren’t together any more, but I saw Ava-Jayne all the time. I will miss her every single day, I just don’t know what to do now.

‘It is just so tragic. I have my family around me now, but we are all devastated.’ The RSPCA confirmed the charity had been contacted after a dog at the address killed a neighbour’s cat. The death was treated as an accident with no action taken.

It’s simple: Animals exist for their own reasons—they don’t want to be trapped in the wild, torn away from their families, confined to cages or small tanks, beaten, neglected, abused, or killed. You can relate, right?

The only reason why people eat, wear, confine, and kill animals is because animals can’t fight back. Industries that exploit animals may not listen to the voices of the animals who are crying out for help, but they will listen to yours!

Whether it’s making sure always to adopt animals from shelters instead of buying from a breeder or a pet store, telling local stores to ditch glue traps, speaking out against dissection or cruel events like “donkey basketball” at school, reporting chained dogs or dogfighting in the local neighborhood, or volunteering at a local animal shelter, we all can make simple decisions that help animals every single day.

“WTF…It never ceases to amaze me just how cruel humans can be; it is we humans that are the animals!. Somebody knows who this dog belonged to, they don’t just bloody appear from know where.  Please, If anybody knows anything about this case, please do the right thing & inform those below. Please keep this sweet dog in your prayers; so that he may make a full recovery. His leg may have to be removed but lets hope he will come through this & find a forever home!”

A one-year-old pit bull was rescued in Kentucky after having been found tied to a fence with his snout duct-taped shut. A reward is being offered for information on who did this.

Duct-Taped severely wounded, Frodo was found tied to fence

It is believed he was being used as a bait dog because he is covered in bite marks.

He clearly, in my opinion, was a bait dog and this is not the first time being thrown into a ring,” said Rebecca Eaves, director of The Arrow Fund. “Basically, a dog got him here, broke his canines and pushed them in.”

The pup, now named Frodo, is being treated at the Blue Pearl Animal Hospital, where he is being pumped full of antibiotics and painkillers. One of his legs will have to be amputated because of injuries, but staff say he’s lucky to be alive.

“It’s a shame what they do to these animals, and I’m emotional because I’m sick of this,” Eaves said. “This is a sweet, sweet puppy, that was just shown a life of horror.”

Frodo was found on the 2600 block of West Kentucky Street in Louisville. Investigators have no idea who tied him to the fence, and are urging the public to come forward.

“Right now, we want to plead to the community,” said Donald Robinson with Louisville Metro Animal Services. “You can remain anonymous. Please call our tip line, let us know if you’ve seen anything, if you’ve seen this particular animal out in that particular neighbourhood.”

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) involved.

We want to put this person behind bars,” Eaves stated. “Dog-fighting is rampant here in Louisville and everybody needs to be serious about it. Don’t be afraid. Turn them in.”

Have You Heard About the Disturbing New Animal Abuse Trend Known as ‘Trunking? Petition To Stop This Inc.

“I sadly have to say this is nothing new, it’s been going on for years; which is why I included the video as proof.  Isn’t treacherous dog fighting brutal & cruel enough for these sickos? Are people becoming so desensitised to the value of innocent life, that they have to create sicker and sicker means of “entertainment? What happens to the dog that’s won the fight but beaten up badly in doing so? They are not going to spend money on fixing up these dogs because they don’t mean anything to them in the first place…they will just be thrown out with the trash & the thugs will get another; there are always plenty homeless pit bulls  to be had!.”

“Abuse like this will not stop until the laws are changed. A few days in prison or a fine isn’t going to stop these dick heads!! Lets face it, if they are that cold-hearted as to put 2 dogs in a trunk to fight to the death…what value do they put on a human life, other people’s property? what do they give to the community??? Enough said; so make the punishment a real one, that hopefully will deter others & stick by it.”

“Don’t know about you guys, but I am sick of reading the appalling abuse these beautiful dogs go through! The breed nobody wants from a shelter because they are deemed vicious!! But they aren’t born that way, it’s not their fault & they shouldn’t have to pay with their lives for the damage done; when all they have ever known is violence & fighting. Make the humans who taught them all they know pay for it; not the dogs!!”

June 4th 2013 – What is “trunking?” It involves dogs (typically pit bulls), the trunks of cars, and possibly some of the most inhumane treatment of animals seen in a long time.

How does trunking work? According to animal rights activists, this is what happens during a trunking:

  • Two dogs are locked into the trunk of a car and then driven around.
  • The car’s stereo plays at a loud volume in order to cover the sounds of the fighting.
  • After a short time or when the fighting appears to have stopped, the dead dog is tossed out and the survivor goes on to fight again.

“And Here Is It In Action – This is not a new craze as one can tell by the video date!  As always viewer discretion advised.

Hidden in Darkness: ‘Trunking’ is Dog Fighting’s Ugly Secret

Uploaded on 22 Aug 2008

NEW YORK — One of the most barbaric forms of animal cruelty has an underbelly which for years has remained literally hidden in darkness: “Trunking” is dog fighting‘s ugly secret.

The latest and most-publicized incident of trunking came to the attention of authorities after a woman in Florida’s Miami-Dade County area reported seeing dogs being put into the trunks of cars in order to have them fight to the death.

Animal control authorities visited the reported location and found 10 dogs, many exhibiting wounds that are typically associated with fighting.

The Miami Herald reports that the home where these dogs were discovered was the focus of a pit bull investigation in June 2012. The breed is illegal in the county and someone called to say that pit bulls were running loose in the neighborhood. The person who lived there denied owning the animals but received a citation.

Additional complaints were called in just two weeks ago. Callers reported the pit bulls were still on the loose and that one had killed a neighbor’s dog.

BACKGROUND !
Parks trainings of hunting dogs (called “Pritravochnye stations“) See video above! are places where hunters can train their dogs using wild animals as prey, such as wild boars, bears and wolves and smaller animals such as raccoons, foxes, badgers and rabbits.

The dogs risk almost nothing!  People pull out teeth and claws of the wild animals so they can’t hurt their hunting dogs during the trainings with these wild animals. (Their teeth and claws are removed as a precaution) but these poor wild animals are suffering to death, they are scared, they are super stressed (and sometimes are dying of stress or injury) they are living in constant fear – says a veterinarian Semen Sereda. These animals are bitten dozens and hundreds of times. Experts say it is possible to make this process more humane, for that you need to change the law ..

Dogs can train every day, costing to the owner 300 rubles. (about $ 7) per session. The dog has ten minutes to bite the animal and that the maximum…but for the small animals it usually finishes with animal death!

It becomes impossible to the wild animal to fight back. They don’t even try to fight back because they are so terrified..of being abused. These people if the teeth are not been removed put a wood stick into the wolf’s jaws-mouth so they can’t bite.

They chain the bears so the bear can’t more than one feet. They also taking rabbits cubs, foxes and badgers and put them into a special “tunnel” so they can’t run away; and leave the mad dogs rushing on them inside the tunnel (as pictured/video below)

There are about ten parks trainings dogs in Moscow region. But across Russia they are hundreds of them; each of these parks operate legitimately. Because any law prohibiting such existing operating in Russia. The workouts dog parks bring in families with children and their guest, advertising is everywhere: on roadsides, in newspapers, on the Internet.

But there is also an much more gruesome underground “illegal parks” which is very well known by regular confidential customers .. Illegal parks whose advertising does not exist; but only from mouth to mouth…at the request of the customer if he wishes, his dogs can torment a chained boar or a chained bear until it dies .. (a kind of bear baiting till the death follows)

We urge the Russian government to put an end to this unacceptable huge barbarism !!! please sign the petitions massively ! (especially the first one!)

“VIDEO TO FOLLOW…OK somebody know’s who this dog belonged to, so do yourself a favour & tell the authorities; anonymously if you must, just please do it! The male pit bull puppy found in Yonkers was unable to recover from excessive wounds and blood loss, and had to be euthanized.

Pitlbull puppy had to be euthanized due to severe trauma & injuries

Local veterinarians were unable to save a 9-month-old pit bull puppy that suffered massive wounds and blood loss after likely being used as a ‘bait dog’ to train other dogs to fight.

The SPCA of Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) Division was contacted by the Yonkers Animal Shelter who got a call about a severely injured dog found on a walkway between Somerville Road and Edwards Place in Yonkers. The puppy was taken a local animal hospital.

‘At the time, his breathing was extremely laboured ‘ said Ernest Lungaro, director of the SPCA’s HLE Division. ‘The veterinarian who examined him reported that the pit bull had severe multiple bite wounds and abrasions about his face, muzzle and head. He was extremely emaciated and neglected and was mostly likely used as a bait dog in a fighting ring.

The veterinarian also noted the animal had old scars from previous attacks.’

The puppy was put to sleep Thursday, since veterinarians determined he was unable to recover from such severe injuries.

Puppies, weak or older dogs and females who can’t breed are often used as ‘bait dogs’ and are usually tied up and/or have their teeth removed so they are rendered defenceless-according to the Briarcliff based SPCA of Westchester, a no-kill non-profit animal shelter, hospital and animal cruelty law enforcement organization.

‘Although dog fighting is a crime in New York State, we are constantly on the lookout for clandestine groups who fight the animals in Westchester County,’ said Lungaro.

The SPCA’s HLE Division is asking that anyone with information on this puppy or information on dog fighting in their area to make a confidential call to the number below.

“Come on people think, somebody know’s who this is! Somebody who is hosting dog fights & who throws the dogs that lose or the bait dogs; out like garbage! Any information you may have, please tell the Acushnet police or the Acushnet Animal Control.”

(NECN: Jennifer Eagan, Acushnet, Mass.) – Acushnet police are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty after a dead dog was found in a black plastic bag Thursday.

According to officials, the dog, a 4-year-old female pitbull, was found after a witness reported seeing a white male on the Slocum Street bridge push a baby stroller with a black plastic bag in it, then throw the black plastic bag over the bridge and into the Acushnet River.

Police say the bag did not go into the river but landed on the bank, where the dead pitbull was found inside.

According to a Acushnet Animal Control officer, the injuries on the dog consisted of dog bites, appearing as though the dog was being used in dog fights.

Police say the suspect is again a white male, and is in his mid- to late-twenties, and was last see running into New Bedford from Slocum Street and then south on River Road.

Acushnet police are asking anyone with any information about the owner of the dog to contact them.

Behind The Scenes At The SPCA: Investigating Animal Cruelty

Comments Off on Behind The Scenes At The SPCA: Investigating Animal Cruelty

George Bengal of the Pennsylvania SPCA is like the Ed McMahon of animal rescues. There’s just one difference: When he comes to your door, he’s not bringing an oversized check and balloons.

“I’ve had cases where the people we’re investigating will say to me, ‘I know you, I’ve seen you on TV,” said Bengal. “And to that I say: ‘And now you’re going to be on TV with me, but it’s not for a good reason.”

As the director of humane law enforcement for the Pennsylvania SPCA, Bengal has seen everything from dog-fightingas seen in the recent Germantown case, to pet hoarding. He’s also a retired Philadelphia police officer.

With 12 humane officers on the team, the group can have a workload of 30 to 50 cases at one time. They also have the daunting task of enforcing the animal cruelty laws for 16 counties.

“People often think that we’re funded by the state because we’re enforcing state laws, but that’s not the case,” said Bengal.

His team is constantly following-up on calls and investigating animal cruelty and abuse.

“We have a twenty-four-seven hotline,” said Bengal, “calls come in everyday and we look into each one. Every time I think I’ve seen the worst case, another one will top it,” said Bengal.

A look into the world of animal fighting

Bengal says he has seen horrific scenes of animal fighting. The fights, which are motivated by money, involve high-end betting.

“In one case, my team found half a million dollars in cash at a home,” said Bengal. “It’s a blood sport. These animals are trained to fight, even to the death.”

He says the fights attract large crowds and he’s seen over 100 people in one house. Spectators can be charged just for watching.

“In many cases, women will be cooking and actually selling food upstairs in the kitchen, while downstairs the men are watching the fighting,” said Bengal.

A dog rescued from dog-fighting. (Courtesy of the Pennsylvania SPCA)

He says the animals are trained to fight from a young age. Owners may start out playing tug-of-war with the dog as a puppy using a towel or rope. Eventually, they will start training with weight pulls for a sled, which are legal.

“They train them like it’s a fun game,” explained Bengal. “Eventually, they’ll put heavy chains on their necks to strengthen them, pump them full of steroids and have them run on treadmills. Animal fighting is like a boxing match.”

The fights are so serious that the owners will even pay for a cutman to treat physical damage during the fight.

“These guys will go so far as to put a sedative or poison on their fur, so that when the other dog bites, he’ll get weak and sick,” explained Bengal. “With cock fighting, they will implant knives or gaffs on the animals claws.”

When asked if the owners ever feel remorse for their actions, Bengal says they only think of the animals as valuable property.

“They’re mad when we take their animals because some of them are worth thousands of dollars,” said Bengal.

“Some of these dogs are grand champion fighters, and their pups alone can be worth $20,000 to $50,000.”

Dangerous hoarder homes

Can you imagine 110 Chihuahua‘s living in one home? Bengal can. He says that typically, animal hoarding goes hand-in-hand with other types of hoarding, which can mean a dangerous situation for both animals and humans alike.

“These are some of the most tragic cases,” said Bengal. “These people have serious issues. They’ve lost their ability to know what’s right and wrong. They don’t having running water, they don’t get things fixed.”

He says for many hoarder cases his team must wear protective gear and breathing masks due to mass amounts of feces and garbage.

“We’ll find dead animals inside these houses,” said Bengal. “One woman actually asked if she could take pictures of the dead ones before we took them out, she was that mentally attached.”

He says homicide cases for humans mean a felony or a death sentence, but when an animal is killed, it may only mean minimal jail time or a fine.

“When we go to a location, it’s a lot like a narcotics investigation. We get forensic evidence and autopsy results to determine the cause of death,” said Bengal. “We treat these cases as if it were a regular homicide.”

The SPCA works with the Licenses and Inspections (L&I) department to get people out of these conditions and find them psychiatric help. In some cases the properties may be deemed unlivable and are condemned.

“We try to do as much as we can,” said Bengal. “You have to stay professional at all times. Our job is a combination of a cop, social worker and educator.”

Healing hands at the SPCA

Wendy Marano, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania SPCA, says the group has a “no kill” philosophy.

“No animal comes here with a clock ticking,” said Marano. “We work hard to get them better, we want to give them a second chance.”

She says the SPCA team works to rehabilitate abused animals so that they may one day enter into an adoptive home.

“WTF…why?? Why would you do this to a dog, unless for the reason given below; but if that’s the case why wasn’t the dog covered in bite marks. However she ended up there, someone put her there & somebody knows who did it…please…ease your conscience & tell the police or ring the shelter if you know anything!! Next time it might just be a dog covered in bite marks, ultimately dead! The person who did this is a psychopath…if he can do that to a dog, what else will he turn his hand to?”

The female white pit bull terrier now named Tiffany was found Saturday with duct tape completely covering her eyes. Her caretakers think that she had been hog tied and used as a bait dog.

DOG TIED WITH DUCT TAPE NEEDS IMMEDIATE RESCUE

Currently in the San Bernardino Shelter, Tiffany needs to be rescued immediately or she will be euthanized.

Bait dogs are the most heartbreaking victims of dog fighting. Any dog could be unlucky enough to be rendered helpless by being tied up and then thrown into a fighting ring with a dog trained to kill.

Humane supporters are currently raising funds on Facebook for her adoption expenses.
The page is dedicated to the United Hope for Animals Baldwin Park Shelter Support Program where supporters connect shelter pets with loving, permanent homes and rescue options through effective networking.

Tiffany may have been used as a bait dog. She needs immediate rescue and is currently at San Bernardino City Shelter.

Can she be saved? Imagine what life must have been for this dog?

It appears her ears may have been cut in a crude manner, and she appears to have recently given birth.

If you are interested in rescuing Tiffany, please contact the San Bernardino City Shelter located at 333 Chandler Place in San Bernardino, Cal.

Tiffany’s identification number is A442565. Call (909)-384-1304. You can also follow the volunteers currently trying to organize Tiffany’s rescue by clicking here.

Emotional Reunion For A Man And His Best Friend

Comments Off on Emotional Reunion For A Man And His Best Friend

“I think it’s about time for some good news, especially on Valentines Day…A man & his beloved dog, reunited…think I’m gonna cry!!!”

It’s been a long year for Robert Moreland, but even longer for his dog Blackjack.  The German shepherd was stolen from Moreland’s truck while he was at Home Depot 10 months ago, and Moreland was devastated.   He and Blackjack had been together since the dog was a pup, and now they have finally been reunited.

When Moreland discovered that Blackjack had been taken he called police, but they never found him.  “It hurt me to my heart,” Moreland said, a long time dog lover who did not want to give up the search despite health concerns of his own.  Moreland has suffered from PTSD ever since retiring from the Air Force in 1981 after 20 years of service, and he credits Blackjack with helping him cope.

Finally he gave in and did get another dog, named Rommel, though he continued to pray for Blackjack.  “I had given up,” Moreland said. “Not because I wanted to, but because I know evil people are in this world, and they don’t care.”  Then the miracle happened.

Eric Weinberger, a volunteer at Big Dog Ranch Rescue, got a phone call from a Palm Beach resident who had been feeding a stray dog for several months.

Weinberger came and after several failed attempts was able to catch the dog, which the microchip revealed to be Blackjack.  Weinberger fears that Blackjack was used in dog fighting.  He was found with a green plastic collar around his neck and a piece of meat hung from a chain. “We’ll never know what they were using him for,” said Weinberger, “But the only reason he would have that collar on him is if he was used as a bait dog.”

Big Dog Ranch Rescue called Moreland to deliver the news and the pair had an emotional reunion on Valentine’s Day.  Blackjack went straight to Moreland and curled up beside him, as if no time had passed.  Blackjack had surgery to treat his wounds on Friday, and should be able to go back home on Sunday.  “I was so pleased (to find him),” Moreland said, and he expressed his gratitude to the kind people at Big Dog Rescue for bringing his boy home.
