Police: Glendale Woman Stabs Dog Several Times Near Eyes

A 42-year-old Glendale woman faces animal cruelty charges after she stabbed her Shiba Inu dog multiple times around its eyes while she was high on cough syrup, authorities said. “Jesus, what the hell does her cough syrup contain?? 

Merry Jane Clift pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one felony count of animal cruelty after the alleged attack on her dog, “Huckleberry,” on Dec. 28, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court criminal complaint.

The dog, which is in stable condition and “doing quite well,” is under quarantine at the Pasadena Humane Society, where the eye wounds were treated, spokeswoman Ricky Whitman said.

“It’s a very sad situation,” she said, adding that the dog was in a safe area away from the public. “Lets all pray this little guy pulls through from hid horrific ordeal”

Animal control officials are looking for a behaviorist to work with the dog, which appears to be depressed and withdrawn due to the trauma, Whitman said. She added that animal control officials were working with the dog, which she described as “very nice,” to make sure its stay at the shelter was as comfortable as possible. “Poor little guy, I would be bloody traumatized if someone stabbed me in the head!”

“The dog will not be returned to this woman,” she said.

Clift was arrested about 2:14 a.m. Dec. 28 after police arrived at a building in the 100 block of Carr Drive. A neighbour told police Clift was banging on her apartment door and begging residents to kill her, according to Glendale police. “They should have carried out her request!”

When police walked into the apartment building, they noticed a trail of blood to Clift’s apartment. Then the small brown dog stumbled up a set of stairs and stopped in front of the officers, who noticed several deep cuts on its face.

Clift, meanwhile, was sitting on the hallway floor of her apartment, police said. There they allegedly found a bloodied kitchen knife with a 10-inch blade and blood throughout the apartment.

Clift allegedly told officers that she had slept only two hours that night when she woke up and began stabbing her dog in the face with the knife. “Well it’s not the normal thing to do when you wake up in the night, usually it’s for a pee…Besides who the hell takes a 10″ Kitchen knife to bed with them? This woman is obviously cuckoo & needs locking up for the protection of others!”

She claimed to be going through a difficult time due to child custody issues, but later recanted her story and claimed not to remember what happened due to a psychotic episode, police said. “We all go through tough times but don’t wake up & stab our bloody dogs..she is crazy!”

Clift was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and was taken to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where hospital officials discovered a possible dog bite on her left arm, police said. “Well I would expect her to have more dog bites, the poor thing was defending himself…I just hope she doesn’t turn this around & say she did it because she woke up & was being attacked by the dog!”

Whitman said an out-of-state family member of Clift’s has shown interest in the dog, but animal control officials are working with police to authorize any moves. “That’s a bad move, if the dog goes to a family friend, she could see it whenever she feels like it…it should be adopted into a new loving home, where it can recover from the trauma Clift caused it!”

Child abuse and endangerment charges were filed against Clift in January 2012 in a separate case, which is still pending, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. She also faces public intoxication charges stemming from cases filed in December 2011 and January 2012, according to court records. “Ahhh, it’s all coming out now, this woman is a danger to society & should be jailed!”

Clift, who listed her profession as a writer in police records, remained jailed Thursday afternoon in lieu of a $40,000 bond, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 10 to set a date for her preliminary hearing. “Fingers crossed she is locked up, but going on past cases, she will probably get her hands slapped…I have lost all faith in the judicial system…the public should be protected from people like this, not bump into them at the pub!”

Update on Star: The New York Pit-bull Shot By NYPD Police, Meets Her Number One Fan

One man’s dream came true this week when he flew halfway across America to meet the dog that has changed his life and inspired his Facebook page entitled, “Star – The New York pit bull shot by police.”

Charlie Cifarelli, is a native New Yorker who now lives and owns a successful recycling business in Nebraska. Cifarelli was just one of the millions that watched a viral video this summer of a pit bull being shot point blank in the head by an NYPD officer, and survived.

The public was outraged because the dog whose name would later be revealed as “Star,” was protecting her homeless owner that was having a seizure.

Cifarelli quickly turned his outrage into a constructive tool that is now called the “Star” page on Facebook; it has kept the public informed on Star’s recovery, and possibly saved her life.

Examiner asked Cifarelli what inspired him to create the Star page?

“I was so horrified by her shooting and when I looked at Star and Lech (Star’s owner at the time) lying on the ground like no one cared. I saw Lech not being checked on even after Star was shot. I saw a man’s dog shot and screaming and even after she was no longer a threat no one checked on her or Lech. I had enough I was going to do something several days later I started the Star page.” Cifarelli replied.

“For me this would be so out of my comfort zone but for Star and Lech I felt it was necessary.” Cifarelli ended.

Cifarelli has stayed in touch with the officials in charge of Star’s recovery and releases the updates to the public on the Star page. But the one thing Cifarelli has been unable to do up to this point was meet the dog he affectionately calls “our Star girl.”

“Ever since August when she was shot and almost died, I have had a desire to help her and at the very least rally those around me to know her story and support her. Since the moment I saw the video of her being shot I wanted to reach out and hug her and tell her I love her and she has people all over the world who feel as I do.” Cifarelli stated.

That finally changed this week for Cifarelli who was invited to meet the dog that changed his life.

In this exclusive Examiner interview, Cifarelli reveals his physical and emotional journey to meet Star.

“This week, I left my home in Nebraska and some 12 hours later I would meet my hero dog “Star.”

“It was surreal I would go through several doors, a long corridor and a steel door along with a gate. The lights were dim I was a guest in this facility which treats animals with care, the way that all animals should live.

It was quiet with classical music being played. Instead of dogs that bark you could hear a pin drop. As I entered her large 20 x 20 room a rush of emotions entered me I was finally here I made it to see the dog who I have wrote about, talk about, I was even on the radio in the UK talking about her.”

“I saw Star!”

“The words came out of me “Hey Star Girl it’s me Charlie.” “She sat for me and gave me that look with a wide smile, her trademark look. The lights were turned on for me and I literally hugged her for what seemed like an eternity. I hugged her for me and the whole world and realized how fortunate I was to be able to have this time with her. She has such a smooth coat and she is actually a little shy at first. I talked to her and I hugged her over and over again.”

“I’m quite amazed at how well she has recovered.”

“Her sight seemed good as I played with and her toys she hears noises in the corridor outside her room. I spoke to her doctor a wonderful woman who has compassion and understanding of Stars injuries and her treatment to this point.”

“She is walked four times a day. She has the best medical staff and hospital steps away from where she resides, and a kind soul who makes this all possible because he believes the animals that come into his care should be treated in the most humane capacity available. If anyone had concerns about Stars well-being let me put you at ease; I don’t know if there is a place that could do more or care more about Star.”

“I spent time with our girl on the first day of my visit. When I returned the following day, Star knew who I was and there were more belly rubs, hugs and kisses. At some point the next day it was time for me to go. I had to say goodbye again like the first day of my visit, and I cried inside. I gave her a hug and walked away, not easy to do.”

“When someone sees her in person for the first time, you feel like you know her so well. I looked and saw the trademark dots on the back of her neck the dots by her nose. “

“I have never slept so well after seeing our girl. I will always cherish the memories this dog has evoked in me and will always think about meeting her. This was something I thought could never have happened.”

An Arizona woman who allegedly confessed to her boyfriend that she has sex with dogs and fantasizes about incest has been charged with crimes against nature, police said. “Take a good look at that face below, she is someone you don’t want near your pets or children!!”

ANOMALOUS BRITTANY SONNIER – Mother of one child, likes Incest & has sex with dogs...Is this women fit to have children or animals???

Brittany Angelique Sonnier, 20, is accused of committing “vaginal and oral sex with two canines” in Lake Havasu City, according to police Sgt. Joe Harrold. “Why hasn’t her child been taken into protective custody?”

“We received a report … alleging bestiality on the part of Brittany Sonnier. Our investigations bureau investigated the allegations and [then] forwarded a criminal complaint to the county attorney’s office,” Harrold told The Huffington Post.

Sonnier was arrested on November 21 and charged with bestiality. Those charges were later changed to two counts of “crime against nature.”

According to a copy of the police report provided to HuffPost, authorities were tipped off in September by a former boyfriend of Sonnier’s about her alleged illegal four-legged activities.

The ex-boyfriend, the report states, told police he had started dating Sonnier in March or April. The ex, whose name has been redacted from the police report, said Sonnier seemed, “like a nice, sweet and innocent girl.”

Sonnier’s ex told police things went well at first between the two and said he enjoyed spending time with both her and her 11-month-old son. However, during mid-summer the relationship changed, and their sex life began to slow down. It was around this time that Sonnier allegedly approached him and asked if they could “talk.”

“They sat down and Brittany used his phone to look some things up,” the police report states. “He expected Brittany to ask if they could have a threesome or if he wanted to be a swinging couple. He would have been fine with either of those things — he is very open.”

The photos, however, indicated different interests, police said.

“Instead, Brittany started to show him pictures of people having sex with animals,” the report states. “She told him that she was interested and into having sex with dogs. She went on to tell him that she has been having sex with their family dogs since she was 13 years old.”

The report states one of the dogs is about 13 and the other is just a couple of years old. They are not identified by breed, but are described as “medium size” dogs in the police report.

The police report further alleges that Sonnier told her boyfriend that she has had “vaginal and oral sex with the dogs” and has trained the animals so they “don’t act strange” around other people. “So that’s how zoophiles can stay undetected, when it’s their pets they are abusing!!”

Sonnier also allegedly said she was into incest and pulled up images on the phone of a family of cartoon characters having sex, police said.

The ex-boyfriend told police he was “disturbed and freaked out” and said he told Sonnier “she was disgusting.” The two broke up shortly thereafter. “She still is disgusting!”

Sonnier’s ex told police he first approached her father and informed him of her alleged bizarre sexual preferences. Sonnier’s dad, according to the police report, allegedly told him that his daughter had in the past admitted to him that “she has been having sex with the family dogs.” Her dad also allegedly said he is in the process of trying to gain custody of his grandson. “When these allegations come out in court, I am hopeful the Judge will make sure the child’s safety is of paramount importance, & place him in the most protective custodial hands!” 

We are talking about an innocent child here; who must be protected at all costs!! It begs the question, why didn’t they think to report her disturbing behaviour; having admitted to her dad about having sex with the dogs??

The ex-boyfriend told police he suspects Sonnier is pregnant with his child, but said she has refused to take a pregnancy test. He said that, if she is pregnant, he wants her to get help. “I hope to God she isn’t, but if she is; serious questions should be asked about her mental stability & ability to keep said child! Just having mentioned the word ‘Incest’ when one has children should set off alarm bells ringing, to the safety of the child!” 

Further allegations by her ex-boyfriend in the police report read:

• She is a sex addict and he thinks she will be an unfit parent.
•  He suspects Brittany started to have sex with animals when she was younger because she couldn’t find a partner.
• He is worried about the child Brittany might be carrying.

Neither Sonnier, her ex-boyfriend nor her father responded to calls and emails requesting comment from The Huffington Post.

According to a Facebook page attributed to Sonnier, (Yes her Face book is still live) she is a 2010 graduate of South View High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Under “favourite quotations” Aurdey Hepburn is listed, with the following quote, “I was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it.”

Harrold told police Sonnier is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 5. It was not immediately clear Thursday if she has an attorney to represent her.

“In 2006 Arizona reintroduced a law making it illegal to have sex with an animal, dead or alive.”

50-year-old man arrested for crushing dog’s skull

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Officers from the City of Jacksonville‘s Animal Care and Protective Services arrested a 50-year-old man on charges related to animal cruelty after a pit bull mix was brought to the Jacksonville Humane Society with a crushed skull.

Police arrested Richard Dennis Poehler Tuesday night, charging him with three felonies including cruelty to animals, intentionally causing a cruel death and unnecessary suffering, according to a news release from the Jacksonville Humane Society.

“We were appalled when Flo came to us a few weeks ago with a gaping wound that appeared to be made by a hammer or other blunt object.  We found metal fragments in her head, and Flo had missing teeth and evidence of past abuse,” said Denise Deisler, JHS executive director.  “It is unfathomable that a person could inflict such horrific pain and suffering on an innocent creature like Flo.”

The release said Flo is recovering at the JHS animal hospital after surgery.  Flo is being housed in an undisclosed location.

Poehler is currently being held at the Duval County Jail on no bond.  He does not currently have a court date.

WTF…the family must take some blame in this, for not reporting previous animal cruelty & for letting him keep & or acquire more dogs. Clearly they too don’t give a rats ass about animals, if they did surely they wouldn’t have allowed him access to them! Thank God the vets were able to save the little pup!

A Redmond man accused of slitting a puppy’s throat also recorded himself having sex with dogs, King County prosecutors now allege.

Filing charges earlier this month, prosecutors claim Michael C. Heyes attempted to kill a puppy in July. According to prosecutors, Heyes, 25, was ultimately institutionalized after sending photos of the seriously injured 17-week-old puppy to friends and family.

Family members searching the Northeast 116^th Street home where Heyes was living uncovered several videos showing Heyes “engaged in bestiality with his other pet dogs,” Deputy Prosecutor Benjamin Carr told the court.

At 6:45 a.m. on July 23, Redmond police were dispatched to a veterinarian’s office there following a report of a disturbance in the clinic parking lot, Redmond Police Officer Kimberly Corbray told the court.

At the time, there was blood in the trunk of Heyes car, which was damaged. Heyes was carrying a black puppy with a bandaged neck.

Near death, the dog underwent surgery and a blood transfusion, and was ultimately saved.

At the time, Heyes offered the first of a series of nonsensical explanations as to how the dog became injured, Carr told the court.

“He said he had been attacked by strangers on the street who slit the dog’s throat ‘to piss (him) off,’” the deputy prosecutor continued. “He said his puppy’s throat had been slashed during a home invasion incident, and he said that he slashed his own dog’s throat as part of a ‘military mission.’

“The defendant also said multiple times that the puppy belonged to him and he could do with it ‘what he wanted.’”

Carr went on to reiterate the claim that Heyes meant to kill the dog, and believed he had when he sent photos of it to his family.

The following day, several people close to Heyes reported that he had cut the dog, Corbray said in court documents.

Heyes has a lengthy history of mental illness and drug addiction, and is alleged to have abused animals in the past. He was held for 90 days at Western State Hospital immediately after the incident.

After he was institutionalized, Heyes family then searched his home and found the disturbing videos, Carr told the court.

“His family discovered multiple videos recorded by the defendant of the defendant engaged in bestiality with his other pet dogs,” Carr said.

Carr noted the dogs – like the injured puppy – were seized by animal control.

Heyes has been charged with first-degree animal cruelty for the purported attack on the puppy.
