Montgomery County Sheriff deputies have charged a man with animal cruelty and resisting arrest after he allegedly shot his neighbor’s one year old Chihuahua in the face with a BB gun.

The man, Joseph Sheridan Martin, of Amsterdam, has allegedly threatened the dog months before by delivering a typed letter to the dog’s owner “expressing his hatred for dogs and stated that even though the dog was not a threat to attack him or anyone else, he would kick it if the dog came onto his property” a sheriff’s office press release on the arrest said.

Deputies said Martin admitted to shooting the dog, and that it had not come onto his property.

When he was told him he was under arrest, Martin fled, allegedly slamming the door on the arm of a deputy. Martin has been charged with animal cruelty, resisting arrest and harassment in the second degree.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Montgomery Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 bond.

“I can’t find any reports on the Chihuahua’s condition.”

“I’m lost for words!”

‘Half cat, half machine’ made into art project after pet was hit by car

Cats may get nine lives, but not quite like this.

A Dutch artist, upset over losing his beloved pet, Orville, had the animal stuffed and transformed its body into a remote-controlled helicopterSky News reported Monday.

The “half cat, half machine” piece of art was dubbed the “Orvillecopter.” The cat, who was killed when it was hit by a car, was named after famed American aviator Orville Wright.

“After a period of mourning, he received his propellers posthumously,” Jansen said.

The ‘Orvillecopter’ by Dutch artist Bart Jansen (l.), which he create with the help of Arjen Beltman, flies in a gallery as part of the KunstRAI art festival in Amsterdam.

A video posted to YouTube shows the flying feline slowly hover several feet in the air in a park, it’s body permanantely spread eagle with propellors on its front paws.

Artist Bart Jansen teamed up with radio control helicopter expert Arjen Beltman after having a taxidermist preserve the pussy cat, Reuters reported.

The bizarre creation was then unveiled at the Kunstrai art festival in Amsterdam on Saturday.

The Orvillecopter doesn’t fly quite right, however, a glitch Jansen hopes to fix.

“He will receive more powerful engines and larger props for his birthday,” Jansen said, adding that he hoped the upgrades will allow for a more “steady flight.

Sprakers man charged with felony animal cruelty – Video

Comments Off on Sprakers man charged with felony animal cruelty – Video

New York State Troopers have arrested a Sprakers man for animal cruelty and failure to provide adequate food and water to more than a dozen horses on his farm.

The sick animals were seized last month after an investigation determined it wasn’t safe for the horses to remain on the property.

Right now 51-year-old Carl Vitale is now behind bars at the Montgomery County Jail.

During an off camera interview on the front steps of his farm on March 22nd, Vitale told FOX23 News he loved his horses, and did not believe he mistreated them.

But on Monday, the Sprakers man was charged with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, and15 counts of failure to provide adequate sustenance.

That’s one count for each horse.

The sick animals are being cared for at the Easy Street Horse Rescue Farm in Amsterdam, but sadly, not all of the horses could be saved.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Nina Bellinger founded Easy Street.

Bellinger says she vowed to seek justice for the horses the night two had to be put to sleep.

“The night we had to put down the two horses, I promised them both that we would get him for this. That was a really tough night, and I really broke down and cried a lot,” she said.

The passionate animal lover is talking about 51-year-old Vitale.

After seeing the poor condition of the 15 horses she helped save from Vitale’s Sprakers farm, she vowed to seek justice for the malnourished, dehydrated, worm infested animals.

Bellinger says she was happy to hear about the arrest.

“He was arrested on 2 felonies, on aggravated animal cruelty, and arrested for the deaths of the two horses that were put down. And then he was charged with 15 misdemeanors, one for each horse, and four penalties. And those penalties were for the horse carcasses that were not properly covered that they found on his farm,” she said.

Bellinger estimates the number of animals that may have died due to neglect on Vitale’s farm.

Counting on her fingers the Easy Street Rescue Founder said, “Well we know (there were) four carcasses, 2 were put down, that’s six, but probably more. I would definitely say more, because we found the skull of a foal that was in his garbage. So there were probably a lot more that passed on, probably due to neglect.”
