"OMG...this is beyond sickening, I can't see the dog walking willingly into fire, so she was either burnt or doused in some type of chemical; on purpose. I pray they catch the scum that did this & will keep her in my prayers, in the hopes that all her pups make it & she finds a forever loving home!"

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A pregnant dog that was severely burned is doing much better after being taken in by a local animal rescue group.

“Someone did something unkind to this very sweet dog,” says Donna Casamento with Big Dog Ranch Rescue.

Pregnant dog burnt is carrying puppies

It’s something so unkind, it’s horrific to view.  Nina, a terrier mix, has second to third degree burns on her chest, all the way down to her legs.

“It’s been a very very sad situation. We weren’t sure when we first got her how the burns happened,” said Casamento.

But Donna thinks Nina’s burns may have been intentional. And what makes this worse, she’s pregnant.

“Whether she walked into a fire on the ground, like a fire pit or was pushed into a fire pit. Dogs don’t walk into those kind of situations,” she said.”

Now the race is on to save the unborn dogs while Nina recovers. “It’s somewhat difficult for us to tell exactly if the puppies are still alive yet,” Casamento said.

Nina was brought up yesterday from Miami-Dade rescue.  Veterinarians here are taking care of her around the clock. “Every couple of hours, she’s getting this applied to her and then several baths throughout the day,” said Donna. “We’re giving her pain medication about every three or four hours at this point.”

The hope is eventually to find her and her babies, a loving home. “In spite what she’s been through, all she wants to do is sit with her head in our lap and get love. This is a great dog,” she said.

Vets say once Nina becomes comfortable, they’ll be able to perform an ultrasound to see if the puppies are alive. They’re asking the community to help with donations for Nina’s care. Find out how you can help at their website, http://www.bdrr.org/ .

Miami-Dade animal rescue is investigating the case.

Graphic Image: Puppy With Ears Cut Off Expected To Recover

Comments Off on Graphic Image: Puppy With Ears Cut Off Expected To Recover

UPDATE:  December 28, OKLAHOMA CITY – It’s a happy ending for a little puppy who was the victim of horrific animal abuse.

We first told you about “Sweet Baby Jones”, the pit bull puppy a few weeks ago. He was found with his ears cut off, left out in the freezing cold when he was just four weeks old.

Puppy recovering well after his ears were cut off & left abandoned

The Bella Foundation and Neel Veterinary Hospital nursed him back to health.

Now, Jones will be adopted by a family from Colorado who works with the organization Stopping BSL, a group that works to stop discrimination against pit bulls.

Members of The Bella Foundation are sad to see him go, but can’t think of a better family to place him with.

“His foster mom took such great care of him. He is doing so well on potty training, he plays well with other dogs.” Jessica McLaughlin said. “He’s going to forget about everything that happened to him before this and he’s going to live a wonderful life.”

Jones has had all of his shots, been neutered and finally had the stitches removed from his ears.

The Bella Foundation brought Jones to their adoption event on Saturday for one last public appearance before he goes home with his new family.

Jones will have two siblings, a chihuahua and another pit bull. The family says Jones will fit right in.

November 29 OKLAHOMA CITY – Staff at The Bella Foundation are trying to find the person responsible for cutting the ears off a 4-week-old pit bull puppy.

Puppy found in freezing cold with his ears cut off!!

The puppy was found wandering around near 23rd Street and I-44.

“He had blood covering from his ears all the way down his neck and even onto his legs. And it was frozen to his fur and was also just stuck to him.” Eric McCune, executive director of Bella, said. “We’re still trying to get it off now because he’s so little, you know, it hurts. And so we’ll probably have to wait a few more days and a few more baths to get the rest of it off of him.”

Today, he is doing better. Tevin Garner with The Bella Foundation is nursing him back to health and giving him a good dose of snuggles.

“It just absolutely breaks my heart to know what he was going through when it happened, to know that he was awake, and you know, just an innocent little puppy being abused like that.” She said.

Recovering well after being found abandoned & his ears cut off

“This little guy, his ears were done with no anaesthetic, no pain killer, probably with a pair of scissors. And then set down and left to heal on his own.” McCune said.

They nicknamed the puppy “Sweet Baby Jones.” Over the next few weeks, the pup will stay on painkillers and antibiotics. Then the vet will reshape and fix what is left of his ears.

Jones is just a small part of an even bigger problem though; they are worried there could be more puppies like him out there.

“I personally have never seen a litter of one puppy, especially pit bull puppies.” McCune said. “Usually there are 7 or 8, sometimes more. And so he probably has brothers and sisters that are in this same situation.”

Now they’re working to save other puppies from suffering the same abuse as Jones.

“All he wants to do is be with people and cuddle despite what other people have done to him.” Garner said.

As soon as Jones is well enough, he will be put up for adoption.

The Bella Foundation believes his litter mates are somewhere in the area of N.W. 23rd Street and I-44 and hope to find them soon.

If you have any information on who did this to Jones or where those other puppies are, call The Bella Foundation at 1-866-318-7387. Tips are completely anonymous.

Blood Soaked Puppy, Found Wandering Streets With Horrific Bites & Burns – Bait Pup

Comments Off on Blood Soaked Puppy, Found Wandering Streets With Horrific Bites & Burns – Bait Pup

From ‘SAVE AURORA’ Face-Book page

Today TAF was called by Diane, the shelter manager at the Animal Welfare League’s Wabash facility, about a severely burned dog who had been used as bait. The blood soaked puppy was found walking down the street by police in the Englewood area of Chicago. Bridgid, from Project Rescue Chicago, went down to AWL and picked up the puppy, taking him straight to our vet at Animal Care Center of Chicago.

Bridgid sent me photos of a 2-3 month old puppy as soon as she met him. When I received the photos my eyes welled up with tears and anger filled my heart. I’m quite honestly so sick of receiving abuse cases day in and day out with no end in sight. Some friends of mine say people are afraid of me because I’m too direct, “bitchy,” and at times a bit anti-social. Well…this is why. You can’t help but have your personality tainted when you deal with the end result of horrific acts of cruelty all the time. Sometimes it is just too much.

This puppy was, without a doubt, used as a bait dog. He has bite wounds all over his body. However, these wounds are the least of his worries. His face was burned either by an accelerant/fire combo or some other chemical. As of tonight Dr Hartwig has stabilized the puppy. The puppy is on IV fluids, the highest level of pain medication possible and antibiotics.

Once hydrated, the puppy will be heavily sedated and his dead flesh and scabs cut away from his healthy skin. The puppy will be hospitalized in isolation for at least 10 days. This will allow the vet staff to monitor his overall health as well as observe him for symptoms of parvo. Until then, we will make sure he is as comfortable as possible. When we left him this evening, puppy was curled up on a comfy blanket, resting peacefully.

If you want to help this poor puppy, please consider making a donation towards his medical care. If you visit www.trioanimalfoundation.org and click donate you will see the options.

Please say a prayer for our little puppy, that his pain is eased and he makes it through the coming days.

“After all humans have done to him, he still manages to wag his tail, he make little noises toward the end of the video, like he is trying to say ‘Thank you’….Just hear-breaking….I know what I would like to do to the heartless sadistic reprobates!!

GRAPHIC: UPDATED PHOTOS OF BURNED BAIT PUPPY

Our vets at Animal Care Center called us early this morning to let us know the puppy is holding steady, eating and moving around. Puppy slept peacefully, likely safe and warm for the first time in his life.

Confident that he would tolerate being sedated, the vets were able to remove the dead tissue that had been burned, as well as the scabs. We visited him this morning right after they finished caring for him and took these photos.

His skin is still extremely sensitive and bleeds with the slightest touch. They confirmed that in addition to the bite wounds and burns, puppy also has a case of demodectic mange and a serious intestinal parasite load.

Our vets are going to keep him under light sedation while they continue to treat the raw wounds that are on his head.

He will continue to receive IV fluids, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain medication. Dr Sachdev, his doctor today, let us know that Dr Hartwig, the first vet who cared for him, came in early this morning, on his day off, to check on our little puppy.

Dr Sachdev said she could hear the puppy’s tail hitting the sides of his kennel when he saw Dr Hartwig…I think he has a new buddy.

PREGNANT DOG SHOT AND BLINDED

Comments Off on PREGNANT DOG SHOT AND BLINDED

Eva is only a few years old but has spent her entire life as a homeless dog. Trying to find enough food and avoiding dangers of the streets is hard for every homeless cat and dog, especially with the shooting and poisoning that is often used to kill large numbers of animals.

The only thing she had to look forward to in her days is waiting until evening when a kind man put food out each night.

Nadim had been looking after Eva ever since she was born and she was very friendly to him.

On 17 April, like almost every night, when Nadim finished work he came with food and Eva was waiting – wanting attention and her daily meal.

The next morning Nadim woke to a terrible sight. Eva was laying in the bushes near Nadims apartment building, her eyes closed tight, head bleeding, and though she was in obvious pain she didn’t make a noise. Eva might have known that Nadim would likely be the only person who would help her.

All at once we received a phone call, email, and Facebook post about this poor dog. Nadim was desperate for help, quickly explaining that it seems like Eva had been shot and needing assistance to transport her to a vet and help with her treatment.

Eva was  safely moved to the car and brought to vet clinic.

She was still quiet with blood on her face, and she was shaking from pain or fear.

X-rays showed that she had been shot repeatedly with a pellet gun, pellets were still lodged under the skin of her face and head. This can be treated and she can recover, but the pellets also harmed both of her eyes and Eva might never be able to see again.

She was also heavily pregnant, and about to give birth.

The vet put her on pain killers and antibiotics but had to be careful to protect the unborn puppies. She was resting by herself, scared and stressed out from what she had endured and now being unable to see, but she would be fine.

Later that day when the vet went to check on her one puppy had already been born. Then another, and another, until later that evening six newborn puppies were all nursing and cuddling up against Eva.

Eva and her puppies were taken to a quiet home so she can recuperate from her wounds and the puppies can be safe.

Dogs on the street are often shot or poisoned as an inhumane and ineffective way of controlling the population, but Eva was shot and blinded for no reason at all. She was no harm to anyone and was never aggressive.

Eva and her five puppies will require a couple months of care and treatment, and possibly a surgery to remove any of the remaining pellets.

Please donate now to help this family of dogs and they will all be ready for adoption soon.
