“Remember the sad story of Borko, the little disabled street puppy taken in by Dr. Litov in Bulgaria? A Lynch Mob and the Media staged a shameful act of barbaric abuse on the dog & used intimidation in order to force the village Doctor, out of his home and work, only because he is helping the strays in the village, where there is no vet and no shelter. Well thankfully there’s good news on Borko… Dr. Litov went to court regards the above & threat of eviction!  Read on, K9 Rescue still need help in their mission to help the voiceless street animals!”

Borko As He Was

PLEASE share my story and let the world know that the Government in Bulgaria are not enforcing laws against acts of animal cruelty and that they are allowing kind people who help animals like me to be persecuted and removed from their home.

Borko Has Wheels

Our media trip to Bulgaria is planned for June where together with Wetnose Animal Aid and Norton Animal Rescue Foundation, we will bring Justice for Borko with a film crew and British presenters Lorraine Chase and Wendy Turner Webster to highlight the plight of dogs like Borko and make a documentary about the animal welfare situation in Bulgaria and what can be done about it.

In other news, Dr Litov had his first court victory on 25th April when the Judge suspended the eviction notice, until the end of the trial, and now this week at the Administrative Court, the Regional Health Authority Inspector gave evidence and confirmed that all inspections carried out in the last few years showed no violations justifying an eviction.

The Court’s final ruling will be at the end of June, so please sign and keep sharing our Justice 4 Borko petition – we have 56k signatures so far – we need to aim for a target of 100k signatures for it to be taken seriously by the Government. Borko and all the abused animals deserve our support!  Thank you! ♥

Petitions: Romania: Please Do Not Allow The Killing Of Healthy Dogs!

Comments Off on Petitions: Romania: Please Do Not Allow The Killing Of Healthy Dogs!

“I’m posting this petition on behalf ” Occupy For Animals”  because I feel so strongly about the way street animals are treated in Romania; which could so easily be solved, by registration, identification, sterilization & vaccination.

I am hoping people will read the following information, learn about what is happening in Romania; & sign the petitions to end this barbaric cruelty . Please read the entire post below, then sign the petitions & send to friends etc. The rest of the world has to know what happens to street animals in Romania etc. Please also sign the petitions at the end of this post; which are just as important!”

The street dogs of Romania are hated, poisoned, beaten, stabbed, shot, run over by cars, burned, and dumped in pits to starve to death. Some who are killed have their ears cut off by people who are able to turn them in for “rewards”. Hundreds of thousands of innocent dogs condemned to death every year, their only crime is being born. :-http://www.occupyforanimals.org/romania–organized-crime–stray-dog-business.html

This petition was started by Occupy for Animals! on April 13, 2013 – the petition letter that comes both in Romanian and English has been provided by our friend, Mira Iordanescu.

ABOUT THE ISSUE:

Romania, as a country member of the EU, must implement those measures to control the overpopulation of stray animals which have been proven efficient in all the civilized world: capture/sterilize/return …. but it appears that very many mayors in Romania have decided to kill as many stray dogs as possible.

In mid March 2013, the Romanian Senate has passed, with an overwhelming majority, the Bill 771/912/2007, regarding the management of stray animals, and based on the Judiciary Committee of the Romanian Parliament, only the animals suffering from incurable ailments can be euthanized.

According to the information that we have received from Romanian activists, this proposal did not sound well with many mayors in Romania, as well as many veterinarians (!) and the Association of Romanian Municipalities has contacted the Committee for Public Administration at the Romanian Parliament during their session from 3rd of April 2013, and proposed the most horrible amendments possible, of which the euthanasia after only 10 days of all animals captured and living in state run shelters (public shelters) being the most horrible and barbaric of all.

It is our understanding that the Committee for Public Administration at the Romanian Parliament will meet again in two weeks to make a final decision and to vote on all new amendments and then to send the Bill to the Romanian Parliament for a final vote in a plenary session. The new meeting is expected to take place around the 16th or 17th of April, 2013 – but the date has not yet been confirmed !!!

We are afraid that local authorities – the town halls – have (again) decided to kill as many animals as they possible can, and we all know how “euthanasia” is done in Romania, and we all know also that most public shelters are in fact DEATH CAMPS for the animals – dogs that have the misfortune to get caught and brought to such a so-called municipal shelter, rarely walk out alive again!

Mira Iordanescu had already started a petition – the signatures list will be forwarded to FPAM who will be at the Parliament. FPAM will print and present it to the Committee before the meeting.

But we definitely need a HURRICANE of EMAILS!

Please help us to avoid these new amendments from becoming reality – please sign our petition and share it with your friends and family and ask them to take action, too.

Romania’s unfortunate stray animals need us more than ever!
Please don’t let them down!

Stray dog situation in Romania

Graphic Video: Justice for Disabled Borko! Punish The Man Who Savagely Beat Him In His Own Home!

Comments Off on Graphic Video: Justice for Disabled Borko! Punish The Man Who Savagely Beat Him In His Own Home!

I saw this  petition  & wanted to highlight it to show how humans can be so fxxxxxg inhumane! I am horrified at this, the brutality is appalling…we have to help; it is outrageous that this is allowed to happen. Dr. George Litov is a hero in my eyes, he has to be helped!  So please sign the petition, link is at the bottom of this post.”

Bulgaria: Lynch Mob Beats Defenceless Crippled Doggy — Police do Nothing

A Lynch Mob and the Media staged a shameful act of barbaric abuse on a family dog and used intimidation in order to force the village Doctor, Dr. George Litov, out of his home and work, only because he is helping the strays in the village, where there is no vet and no shelter.

The TV news article in no way criticised the mob for their actions, they only blamed Dr. Litov for helping strays. The Police were called, and they did nothing. They did not even attend.

This is typical of the out of control Media in BulgariaThe Bulgarian Journalists are the main instigators of the so-called “war against the stray dogs” this is the exact term they use in their TV shows and articles.

They are the ones who encourage the barbaric primitive acts on the defenceless stray animals and should also be held accountable for their despicable actions.

This is the 21st Century, yet Bulgaria, a member state of the European Union, does not prosecute crimes against animals and allows atrocities like these to happen unchallenged.
Why?

Bulgaria has very good, modern Animal Welfare Law (APA 2008) that forbids inhumane handling of animals and places strays under special protection.

On 14 April 2011, Bulgarian Parliament passed an amendment in the Penal Code, which criminalized Extreme Cruelty to Animals. That came onto force on 27 July, 2011. So, what is the problem then?

The problem is that Bulgaria has no enforcement body to implement the new law and therefore change cannot take place.

Bulgaria has no legitimate Zoo police with powers and Bulgarian police officers do not want to bother to investigate and take animal abusers to justice. Since 27 July 2011 we witnessed a number of extreme animal cruelty cases in Bulgaria and no criminal was caught and punished with jail term, or even with a fine.

Our complaints go unnoticed and in some cases we’ve been told to “shut up or else”.

Bulgarian animals live and die in agony! Criminals never get investigated and punished! In most cases Police laugh it off or simply do not accept their duty to protect animals.

We have now created an ONLINE PETITION, to the Government of Bulgaria and associated authorities – it is aimed not just at the need to prosecute the man who savagely beat Disabled Borko in his own home, yet also the very real need for Strict Guidelines for the out of control media.

The Bulgarian Journalists are the main instigators of the so-called “war against the stray dogs” this is the exact term they use in their TV shows and articles. They are the ones who encourage the barbaric primitive acts on the defenceless stray animals and should also be held accountable for their despicable actions.

This must STOP NOW!

URGENT PETITION: 31 Bulls From Latvia Stuck At Border, Been On Truck Since Setting Off On 20th Nov.

Comments Off on URGENT PETITION: 31 Bulls From Latvia Stuck At Border, Been On Truck Since Setting Off On 20th Nov.

URGENT PETITION…PLEASE sign and share with everyone:-
31 bulls stuck at the Bulgaria/Turkish border…been in transport truck since set off on Nov 20th. Not allowed to unload. (Video on the petition page, no longer viewable). No animal deserves to suffer like this, regardless of whether they are meant for slaughter or not. Please help them!

This petition was started by Occupy for Animals on December 1, 2012.

For more information on this petition, please visit: http://www.occupyforanimals.org/truck-with-31-bulls-stranded-at-the-bulgariaturkey-border.html

A livestock truck with 31 bulls from Latvia is stuck at the border between Bulgaria and Turkey aiming to take the animals to slaughterhouses in Iraq.

The truck does not have a required document allowing transit via Turkey and so has been stuck at the border since 04:00 on 24 November. The animals have been on board the truck without being unloaded for this entire period.

The latest report from the border, according to Compassion in World Farming, confirms that the truck is still stuck at the border. The Turkish authorities will not allow the bulls to enter Turkey. The Bulgarian authorities will not allow the bulls to re-enter Bulgaria because the truck has been on the Turkish side of the border and the Bulgarian authorities say that certain infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth are endemic in Turkey.

The bulls were loaded on the 20 November in Latvia and have already been transported for over 2,000 km. Another 2000 km are still ahead of the animals until they reach the Iraqi border – if they are eventually allowed to continue the journey.

Please sign this petition to send an instant message to EU-Commissioner Dr Tonio Borg, asking him to get in touch with the Bulgarian and Turkish authorities to resolve this disastrous situation and to allow the bulls to re-enter the EU and to be taken to proper facilities where they can be given rest, food, water and veterinary care.

A copy of your email will be sent to Mr Erler from the European Parliament‘s Intergroup on the Welfare and Conversation of Animals, and Mrs Erminia Mazzoni, Chair of the Committee on Petitions at the European Parliament

Please circulate this to everyone you know, the bulls are counting on our compassion to save them…please; lets not let them down!

Dog Spinning

Comments Off on Dog Spinning

Dog Spinning or “trichane na kuche” is a ritual celebrated in Brodilovo, a rural Bulgarian village

“In dog spinning, which is practiced each year at the beginning of March, a man’s “best friend” is suspended hight above water on a rope. The dog is wound up into a rope, then released so that the dog spins rapidly as rope unwinds, and the dog falls into the water”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZAYEtxYjSg&feature=player_embedded

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The practice was stopped in 2005 when the media outside of Bulgaria found out about the ritual and reported it to the world. Animal welfare organizations were outraged by its cruelty and the pressure they put on Bulgaria put an end to the practice.
But the mayor of Brodilovo, a rural Bulgarian village, has renewed the ancient ritual in 2011. He said, “Nobody is killing or hurting the dogs. They are brought by their owners who love them in order to take part in this folklore ritual, which is meant to cleanse the local community of evil and to generate fertility. The dogs are spun for about 15-20 seconds, and then they fall in the water, which amounts to bathing them.”
What a load of b******S, the dogs look terrified; dizzy & confused a dog could easily injest dirty water & drown.
Why do certain country’s feel the need to ridicule, abuse or slaughter sentient beings in order to be at piece with themselves…why can’t they see the hurt they cause?
Please sign the petition to stop this cruelty once & for all:-
