United Airlines: Have Pet Safe Program policies changed to protect the animal and owner.

Petition byMichele Gonzalez-Helm oceanside, NY:-

OUR PETS ARE NOT BAGGAGE. The airline lobby may be huge, but the American pet owners “lobby” is worth 45 billion dollars a year and we demand change. We can make change if we stand together with our family members who cannot stand up for themselves.

THE CHANGE WE WANT: Fully disclose the number of total animal deaths that occur to the Department of Transportation, not just pets.

The airlines to be held liable for wrongful deaths of our pets as living creatures and not as “baggage.” An independent third-party, not the airline, be in charge of the autopsy and the investigation into cause of a pets death.

Pets For Life; Created by Bob Stark

Nationwide ground transportation for your four-legged loved ones, reducing the number of animals mishandled (and worse!) by airline personnel.

Hi.  We’re Pets For Life, a ground transportation company on a mission.  We are a group of four people from Springfield, Missouri.  We have performed many long distance trips transporting pets all over the lower 48 States to rave reviews!  The funds raised will be used for two transport vehicles and related equipment necessary for the safe and comfortable movement of animals to their forever homes.

With combined commercial experience totalling over 200,000 accident and incident-free miles, we are confident in our unique ability to safely move your pets over great distances.  We are passionate about the well-being of these animals as though they were our own.  We are in constant contact with both the senders and receivers of these precious passengers, updating them as to our progress while en route, and advising them of any unforeseen delays.  We also abide by any special instructions as they relate to the handling of and caring for our clients’ pets.

Your contributions will help us to achieve our goal of saving as many of these animals as possible, from mistreatment and neglect (and MUCH worse !), while in the hands of airline baggage handlers and others.

What we need & what you get.

Our goal is to raise $96,300.  Funds will be used for two transport vehicles, and specially designed safety gear for the protection and safety of our animals.  Items such as transport kennels in three sizes allowing the pets to stand up, turn completely around, stretch and recline while on the move.  Additionally, these kennels will be held in place inside the vehicles with the use of “e-rails” anchored to the interior walls of the vehicles with ratchet straps connecting to and securing the kennels in place.  And of course, food, water and frequent potty stops will be provided for additional comfort and well-being of our four-legged passengers.  Our primary mission is to provide loving and caring handling of our clients’ pets while in transit.

In exchange for your contributions, we are offering unique items for your pets, ranging from monogrammed retractable leashes and stainless steel food and water bowls, up to whole doghouse warmers !  For our strongest contributors, we want to say “Thank You” in a very special way by providing free transportation* !

Here is a link that discusses some of the many perils of transporting your pet by air.  If you cannot click the link, be sure to copy and paste it to your browser.  It’s informative !

https://www.msu.edu/~silvar/airplane.htm

We understand that not all of our readers are able to contribute at this time.  That doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of our campaign team!  If you share our compassion for pets of all breeds, tell everyone you know about what we’re trying to accomplish with this mission!  Be sure to use Indiegogo’s Share Tools to spread the word.  We want everybody to take notice of what our mission represents in the form of animal cruelty and neglect.  We can, after all, only provide safe transportation to a small fraction of the over 500,000 pets that are transported by air each year.

While providing safe rides for a small percentage of travelling animals, we hope that by doing so, we, along with all of our contributors and other vocal advocates, we can create a much larger ‘voice’….  one that says, “We are appalled by the treatment of pets by their airline handlers, and we seek to do something about it !”

Lisbon Man Facing Animal Cruelty Charges

Comments Off on Lisbon Man Facing Animal Cruelty Charges

LISBON – A Lisbon area man has been charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty following an investigation by an agent of the Humane Society of Columbiana County.

In Columbiana County Municipal Court on Monday, a July 18 pretrial was set for Thomas Henry, 69, Shady Lane, Lisbon. The 10 counts of animal cruelty followed two visits to Henry’s home, as well as reports from concerned neighbors.

Court documents allege that on April 21 a county humane agent found numerous live chickens, four to six goats and a calf in a small shed with one dead calf, a decaying goat carcass and a number of dead chickens. There was no food or water.

On May 7, someone reported to the humane officer that Henry was abusing his dog by putting a chain around its neck, yanking it off its feet and punching it in the face, neck and back. At that time, Henry reportedly threatened to shoot the dog.

While executing a search warrant on the property on May 9, the humane officer reportedly found 32 chickens and seven pygmy goats living in a shed without food or water with some of the chickens emaciated or diseased. One chicken reportedly was stuck with its head between the walls of the shed and the other chickens were eating it alive.

Additionally, two dead chickens were found in cages and there were two dead decaying calves and a goat carcass in the shed. A third decaying calf was found on the back porch and a deceased, decaying dog was found outside the entrance to the shed. Two dogs were found tied with chains, without dog boxes or shelters and without food or water.

In an unrelated case, Henry was fined $25 after he pleaded guilty to failure to confine his dog after numerous complaints of it running off his property and nearly being hit by vehicles.

Video: Live Goat Exports Exposed

Comments Off on Video: Live Goat Exports Exposed

“All animals deserve respect & kindness, none more so than those who are raised, then killed for human consumption!

Few Australians would realise that right now, in rural areas across the country, wild goats are being rounded up, packed in crates, and exported for slaughter. Even fewer have ever seen inside this trade.

Last month, Animals Australia conducted our first ever investigation in Malaysia — Australia’s largest live export market for goats. Once again, we discovered that the new live export ‘rules’ are being blatantly disregarded. And as a result, animals have been left totally exposed to cruel treatment.

Across 6 facilities in Malaysia, goats were filmed being roughly handled; stuffed into bags and car boots; and sold into unapproved facilities — often with their ear tags removed to conceal this clear breach of export regulations.

Like so many animals in the live trade, in their final moments of life, these goats had their throats cut whilst still consciousYou won’t witness such graphic vision in this video, but you will feel their pain, sense their fear and hear their cries.

This week Minister for Agriculture, Joe Ludwig, claimed that “99%” of exported animals are treated “humanely”. “What a load of shit!!” This could not be further from the truth. With a government and opposition who unwaveringly defend this trade, with regulations fundamentally failing to protect animals everywhere we look, it would appear that live exporters are getting away with 99% of the cruelty in this trade.

But with your help, we can ensure they can’t get away with it anymore. Every investigation, every email and phone call to a politician — every action you take — brings us a step closer to ending this trade in cruelty.

Please send an urgent message to our political leaders, calling on them to spare animals from such cruelty, by supporting a ban on live export.

Save ‘Battery Sheep’ from Lives of Suffering

Comments Off on Save ‘Battery Sheep’ from Lives of Suffering

In 2004 Animals Australia was shocked to discover that sheep had also fallen victim to the cruelty of factory farmingInvestigations conducted by Animals Australia at the appropriately named ‘Wool Factory’ in Victoria revealed thousands of sheep confined in sheds in tiny individual pens in order to produce ‘ultra fine wool’. Investigators documented distressed sheep chewing on the bars of their pens in stress, frustration and boredom.

Animals Australia recently convinced the world’s largest single buyer of ultra fine wool, Italian fashion designer Loro Piana, to stop buying wool from single penned sheep and to eliminate it from his prestigious wool awards competition. With his decision Loro Piana shows that style and ethical leadership go hand in hand.

Another target of Animals Australia’s campaign to end ‘shedded sheep’ has been Italian Fashion HouseErmenegildo Zegna, also a major buyer of ultra fine wool. Zegna presents the fine wool industry awards in Australia, including the Vellus Aureum Gold Trophy, awarded for the ‘finest fleece’. ‘The Wool Factory’ is a previous recipient of this trophy which is proudly displayed at their facility.

In a positive development, pressure from Animals Australia’s campaign has led Zegna to announce that fleeces from facilities that use single penning will no longer be eligible for the Vellus Aureum Trophy — meaning that facilities such as ‘The Wool Factory’ are now unable to enter the award.

A commitment from Zegna to extend their ethical position and also discontinue buying cruelly produced ultra fine wool is crucial as it would further impact on the financial viability of these cruel facilities.

You can help to end the factory farming of sheep by urging Ermenegildo Zegna to not only follow the lead of Loro Piana in opposing the use of single pen, but set an example by committing not to purchase wool from facilities that confine sheep to sheds without access to graze in a flock outdoors.

allAfrica.com: South Africa: Foschini Enlists to Save the Rhino

Comments Off on allAfrica.com: South Africa: Foschini Enlists to Save the Rhino

The Foschini Group (TFG) has enlisted in the war to save the rhino by assisting the Aquila Rehabilitation & Conservation Centre with their fundraising efforts.

This follows on a donation of R201 780 made in 2011.

The initial donation was used to purchase containers to set up a medical boma for Absa, the rhino who was so savagely attacked last year. Unfortunately, Absa died before he could be moved to the medical boma. The containers are now being used to set up a veterinary and conservation interpretation centre which is across the road from Aquila Private Game Reserve.

Shirts on sale at Argus Cycle Tour

This latest donation from TFG, together with a donation from V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, will be used to produce branded cycle shirts for the upcoming Argus Cycle Tour. Once made, the shirts are to be sold from the “Saving Private Rhino” stand at the Argus Cycle Tour Expo which is being held from 8-10 March 2012 at the Good Hope Centre. The sale of the shirts is expected to raise over R100 000, all of which is to be donated to the “Saving Private Rhino” initiative. In addition, the cyclists who buy and wear the shirts for the race will help to raise awareness.

“It takes great determination and endurance to cycle a race like the Pick ‘n Pay Argus Cycle Tour and it is with the same level of determination and endurance that we have taken on the privilege of protecting our rhino heritage. I look forward to see an army of rhino supporters cycling the Argus,” said Searl Derman, CEO of Aquila Private Game Reserve and founder of “Saving Private Rhino”.
