“This is my personal opinion, it should have been posted a while ago, but its taken a while to write, due to pain. If people want to eat meat & dairy, I can’t stop them. But I feel they have a duty as the consumer to demand the meat they buy, hasn’t been kicked, punched or shocked around its genitals to get it moving; so it can go to slaughter! It’s plain to see (on the video) that downer dairy cows, that simply can’t move unaided, due to illness or broken bones are moved by brute force; instead of being PTS on the spot! I want the consumers to demand CCTV around farms & slaughterhouses, at the end of the day, it’s the consumer who pays for the meat & dairy products, they should care how the animals are raised! Consumers should be assured the meat & dairy products, came from animals given the best welfare standards possible!! It has been well documented that stressed animals, like those seeing their buddies killed in front of them or those that have been beaten or abused; affects the quality of their meat!  Have you ever seen a joint of beef in the supermarket fridge, that looks like the skin is bruised? well it probably is bruising; caused by the neanderthals who enjoy kicking & punching the shit out of the animals; because there is nobody to stop them!!” Please read this, regards the above:-http://www.fao.org/3/a-x6909e/x6909e04.htm

“I have seen MANY undercover farm videos showing cruelty before…I find this, the most shocking. The public have a right & need to know how the animals they eat, are actually treated before slaughter!! If there is one video to make you ditch cheese & dairy products…hopefully it’s this one! I became a vegetarian years ago, because I didn’t want to be a party to the abuse, farmed animals suffer daily; although I know not all farms allow their animals to be treated this way! Then a few years later, I saw what happened to the dairy cows, it stopped me immediately drinking milk or eating cheese; all I could see was the images of the animals suffering. I now only drink plant-based “Alpro” milk, I prefer the Hazelnut variety which is made by taking the best whole hazelnuts & blending them with pure spring water (plus a few added vitamins & calcium of course) which I feel is far better for you than milk from a dairy cow; who has been abused her whole life!”

“Many dairy cows suffer beatings or heinous bodily abuse, throughout their life, especially on the conveyor belt of large mega dairy farms, where cows will never feel the grass beneath their feet! The only thing you can be certain of, is that the poor cow (constantly kept producing milk by artificial insemination) has its babies taken away at birth!! These farmers want the last bloody drop out of these poor dairy cows; before they will let them go to slaughter. I should imagine the cows are actually grateful, for an end to their lives of appalling abuse!  I am a picky eater, but have found Quorn alternatives, to make any normal meat dishes! I love Linda McCartney’s burgers & sausages, they are tastier than the quorn versions….you name the recipe & there will be some produce, able to make it; without harming any living animal; which is the diet I choose to eat!!

Kicked, abused, electricity shocked in gential area, TORTURED BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!!

To maximize profits, the dairy industry keeps cows in a constant cycle of pregnancy, birth, and lactation. Typically, baby calves are dragged away from their mothers within a day of birth so that all of their milk can be sold for profit.

Female calves are either sold for meat or used as replacements for the “spent” cows in the dairy herd. Male calves, since they don’t produce milk, are often chained by the neck in tiny wooden boxes until they are killed for veal.

Like dogs, cats, zebras, and all other mammals, including humans, cows only produce milk when they are pregnant or nursing — and for the same reason: to nourish their young. The dairy industry steals this milk from calves for humans.

An undercover investigator with Mercy For Animals documented horrific animal abuse at Winchester Dairy in New Mexico, a milk supplier to Leprino Foods — the world’s largest mozzarella cheese producer. Leprino Foods is a primary cheese supplier to Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Papa John’s restaurants nationwide. The hidden-camera video footage shows:

  • Workers viciously kicking and punching cows, and stabbing them with screwdrivers, causing bloody wounds and injuries
  • Cows being violently whipped in their faces and bodies with chains and metal wires
  • Workers maliciously shocking sick and injured cows and dragging them with tractors
  • Sick or injured cows suffering from open wounds, infections, and injuries left to suffer without proper veterinary care

Expert Opinions

After reviewing the undercover footage, renowned animal welfare experts Drs. Bernard Rollin and Terry Engle and Mr. William Wailes from the animal science department at Colorado State University wrote: “Of all the atrocity videos I have examined on behalf of various animal advocacy groups, this one may well depict the most prolonged, and severest pain being inflicted on innocent, non-ambulatory dairy cattle. It is clear that the workers enjoy this infliction of pain and suffering, and even make remarks to that effect. … Of equal concern is the overall lack of training in animal care husbandry practices as well as in the importance to the social ethic of these types of unacceptable animal abuse. We all hold the owners/managers equally responsible for this egregious behavior!”

Dairy’s Dark Side

Treated as mere milk-producing machines, cows exploited and killed for milk and cheese endure lives of near constant misery and deprivation.

In order to keep producing a steady supply of milk, the cows are repeatedly impregnated. Several times a day, dairy cows are hooked by their udders to electric milking machines that can cause them to suffer electrical shocks, painful lesions, and mastitis (an infection of the udders). Some spend their entire lives standing on concrete floors; others are crammed into massive mud lots.

Cows have a natural lifespan of nearly 25 years, but the stress caused by factory farm conditions leads to disease, lameness, and reproductive problems that render cows worthless to the dairy industry by the time they are four or five years old.

These highly intelligent and social animals suffer unimaginable abuse from the time they are born and ripped from their mothers’ sides until they are so physically worn out from repeated pregnancies and constant milk production that they are sold for slaughter.

Although unconscionable cruelty and violence are standard practice in the dairy industry, caring consumers can help end the needless suffering of cows by choosing vegan alternatives to milk, cheese, and ice cream. Please visit ChooseVeg.comto learn more.

Graphic Video: Digiorno’s, Part Of Nestlé, Severs Ties With Wisconsin Farm At Centre Of Abuse Scandle

Comments Off on Graphic Video: Digiorno’s, Part Of Nestlé, Severs Ties With Wisconsin Farm At Centre Of Abuse Scandle

WASHINGTON (VOR)– An undercover video revealing rampant animal abuse at a cheese farm is pushing one the world’s largest food producers to turn tail.

Digiorno’s, part of Nestlé, is announcing it is severing ties with the Wisconsin farm at the center of yet another factory farm animal abuse scandal.

VOR correspondent Molly Seder spoke with one of the investigators behind the revelations. She filed this report:
Download Audio Trackhttp://voiceofrussia.com/us/2013_12_14/Its-not-dignity-its-Digiornos-2701/

Nestle is recovering from a PR nightmare.

The Animal Rights Group Mercy for Animals has leaked a disturbing video documenting animal abuse at a farm that contracts with DiGiorno‘s pizza.
In the clip you can hear a worker grunting as he whips an unresponsive cow.

Matt Rice is the Director of Investigations at Mercy for Animals, the group that put together the video. He told VOR the footage reveals grave abuse.

“Our investigator documented workers viciously kicking, beating, whipping cows in their faces and bodies, and dragging them by their fragile legs and necks using chains attached to a tractor.”
Nestle has responded to the story by announcing it will no longer buy milk or cheese from Wiese Brothers Farm in Brown County, Wisconsin

Rice says there are no federal laws regulating animal treatment on farms.

Unlike domestic pets, farm animals have few if any legal protections. Here’s Matt Rice, who says it’s a really big problem:
And most states specifically exclude farmed animals from legal protection. Meaning that these farmers are often able to get away with treating thousands or even millions of animals in ways that would warrant felony cruelty charges if even one cat or dog were the victim instead.”
Still, “Mercy for Animals” is taking legal action that they’re hopeful will lead to arrests. Wisconsin – unlike many other states – does have some laws protecting its dairy cows. Law enforcement officials are investigating the case.

But still, it won’t necessarily have a big impact.

The group’s only option is to target the low wage workers carrying the whips. They can’t take aim at the farm’s owners or at the multinational corporations the Weise Brothers contract with, like Nestlé.

Gene Baur, President of Farm Sanctuary, says that workers are usually under heavy pressure to do their job.
“Often times in these places the workers are pushed just like the animals are pushed. And the workers become frustrated and they resort to cruel treatment of animals. And that’s what we see in this video very plainly.”

And what does Nestlé have to say about the treatment of its work animals? Apparently nothing, as they did not respond to repeated requests from VOR.

So it looks like for now, this might remain the status quo for many factory farms across the country.

“Dear God…this is no slaughterhouse; its a torture chamber. NO animal should be treated like an inanimate object, incapable of any feelings. Having to watch their fellow beings being slaughtered right in front of them is despicable & in total contradiction of updated slaughterhouse rules. Animals feel pain & fear just as we do, if a slaughterhouse like this was found to be operating in England etc. it would be shut down immediately! Animals from all over the world end up in Beirut Public Slaughterhouse, Karantina. Sheep and cattle are exported live from countries in the European Union such as France, the Czech Republic and Spain (where they have legal protection), and end up here. Our Investigations Unit visited Beirut Public Slaughterhouse, and what they found was unimaginable.

Please email the Lebanese Agriculture Minister. Help get this hellish place shut down.

Our investigators are still trying to come to terms with what they’they’ve seen.Below is an investigator’s account of their visit. Please be warned; what you are about to read is distressing.

The slaughterhouse is chaos. Everything is coated in a layer of blood, faeces and body parts. The slaughter area is heaving with people, live animals and slaughtered bodies. The sounds and smells are overwhelming.

Men grab defenceless sheep by the fleece or back leg. They fall to their knees and are forcefully dragged, one by one, to the slaughter line. Cattle are dragged by ropes around their necks. When they try to resist restraint they are yelled at and beaten viciously with metal rods. The animals are visibly terrified and in their frantic attempts to escape they slip, trip and fall, slamming their heads into the concrete floor.

Groups of sheep are forced to jump over dead bodies and wide gutters full of blood. They desperately try to force their way away from the bodies of other sheep they have just watched being slaughtered. Cows are left suspended fully-conscious by one leg for long periods of time, their faces resting in pools of other animals’ blood. They watch animals being slaughtered all around them. I wonder if they realize it will soon be their turn?

Very Graphic Video: Cattle tortured in Gaza – Live Export, Cruelty Exposed

Comments Off on Very Graphic Video: Cattle tortured in Gaza – Live Export, Cruelty Exposed

“I have never witnessed such horrors, whereby those inflicting the pain & abuse, actually enjoy seeing the poor animals suffer! The crowds including children join in by cheering & laughing whilst the poor bulls are slowly slaughtered, or should I say executed; in front of an audience taking pictures & baying for blood! To end the barbaric cruelty of Australian Livestock, please help to stop Live Export by following the links at the bottom of this post.”

Background briefing. Stories of horrific abuse & torture; captured on video at Gaza!!

TORTURE OF AUSTRALIAN CATTLE IN GAZA

Animals Australia has lodged a significant legal complaint with the Department of Agriculture supported by extensive evidence showing the brutal torture and slaughter of Australian cattle in Gaza in October 2013. Locations and dates of these incidents were verified by translators and contacts in Israel.

The footage was filmed and uploaded to YouTube by civilians. Dozens of individual videos discovered by Animals Australia show the sadistic treatment, torture and slaughter of Australian cattle on the streets and in abattoirs in the Gaza Strip during the Eid al Adha (Festival of Sacrifice).

ORIGIN OF ANIMALS

The cattle in the videos have been identified as Australian through their ear tags which are of a type, size and shape that is unique to Australian exporters to Israel, as well as through the presence of NLIS (National Livestock Identification Scheme) RFID tags. Also, a number of ear tags directly correlated with ear tags of Australian cattle arriving in Israel in June 2013 aboard the livestock vessel Bader 3, which is operated by Australian exporter Livestock Shipping Services.

CIVILIAN INJURIES

On an equally serious note, the government reported 125 injuries to people, some critical, during these brutal slaughter practices on the streets of the Gaza Strip. Media reports also relay the concerns of Gazan citizens about the human health risks of blood, bones and skins being left in the streets after what they call the ‘indiscriminate’ and uncontrolled street slaughter of sacrificial animals.

THE EVIDENCE

The videos depict Australian cattle:

  • being beaten and dragged by ropes off trucks without unloading ramps;
  • being dragged, man-handled and chased along streets to slaughter locations;
  • tethered to street poles, tree trunks and trucks and having their legs bound before being forced to the ground and ‘strung out’ for slaughter;
  • having their necks stabbed at and slashed to weaken them through blood loss;
  • being stabbed in the eyes;
  • having their necks ‘sawn’ at with blunt knives;
  • being forcefully kicked, pushed/pulled/tripped to the ground using a series of ropes;
  • brutally slaughtered by being repeatedly stabbed at and having their necks slashed;
  • being strangled by neck ropes whilst ‘bleeding out’; and
  • ‘knee-capped’ with an assault rifle.

AUSTRALIAN LIVE EXPORT REGULATIONS

In 2011, the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) was implemented in response to overwhelming community concerns about the treatment of Australian exported animals. ESCAS placed legal responsibility for the welfare of Australian exported animals on exporters and required animals to be retained within approved supply chains that met base level international welfare standards.

The sale and slaughter of animals outside approved supply chains in Gaza represents a major breach of these regulations.

The major Australian exporter into Israel and Palestine is Livestock Shipping Services (LSS), whose parent company is the large Jordanian livestock import/export company, Hijazi & Ghosheh.

LSS is the exporter implicated for live export breaches in Jordan and Lebanon in June 2013 and October 2013. These cases currently under investigation involve the sale and slaughter of Australian sheep outside of approved supply chains, which in October resulted in horrendous street slaughter.

INTERNATIONAL ACTION

Animals Australia is currently working with UK based Compassion in World Farming, the world’s leading farm animal welfare organisation, on an action plan to address welfare issues in the Middle East, including lobbying religious leaders, political representatives, and the OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) towards the introduction of animal protection laws. Evidence gathered will also be used to lobby European and South American live exporting countries towards transitioning to a carcass only trade. Animals Australia has also assisted in the drafting of animal protection laws in Jordan which are currently before the Minister of Agriculture.

Written Video Evidence

Case 1 – 102 Cuts

This bull suffered no less than 102 cuts to his throat. His death, and that of many others during the 2013 Festival of Sacrifice, was filmed and shared on-line. The tags in this bull’s ears were distinctly Australian. But he died halfway around the world, in a makeshift slaughter room in Gaza.

With his legs bound and his body outstretched, the bull was helpless as a slaughterman clumsily cut at his throat with a blunt knife. The terrified animal was conscious throughout the prolonged and agonising ordeal, thrashing his head, blinking constantly and looking up at his tormentors as his throat was sawn open.

Australian regulations failed to prevent the suffering of this animal, and others like him.

Case 2 – Stabbed in the eye

This bull was chased by a mob through the back alleys of Gaza. When he wouldn’t move, he was whipped, punched and had his tail painfully twisted. In a terrified frenzy, he stampeded through the alleyways, with dozens of men fleeing in front of him. When he slipped and fell on the concrete, he was kicked — to force him back to his feet.

This animal constantly struggled as they tied him to a wall, bound his legs and pulled them out from under him. One man stood on his face and pushed a knife into his eye, while another began to cut at his throat. As the bull bellowed, they sawed at his neck with a blunt knife for almost a minute until his bellows became muted, as he choked on his own blood and died a slow and agonising death.

Case 3 – Target Practice

As this bull stood in a fenced off area, a short distance away, a man took aim with his assault rifle. But he wasn’t shooting to kill the bull quickly — he was aiming to ‘knee cap’ him.

A shot rang out, and the bull stumbled to regain his footing, limping away from his shooter. Again, the man took aim and fired. The bull nearly collapsed, but pulled himself up and again limped further away. One more shot rang out, as the bull staggered back, struggling to put weight on his injured legs.

The end fate of this animal and his eventual slaughter was not filmed. In the one and a half minutes of vision filmed by an onlooker, the bull was shot three times.

Case 4 – Beaten, Stabbed

With a crowd surrounding the truck, this Australian bull was repeatedly whipped, until, in a frenzy, he leapt from the back of the vehicle. As he flailed about and thrashed his head desperately against the tight rope around his neck, the mob shouted and chased him back.

When he slipped and fell on the gutter, a slaughterman approached and stabbed him in the neck. He clambered back to his feet and continued to struggle, but the rope around his neck meant his efforts were in vain.

Pulled up against a pole, he was violently stabbed again. With the taut rope still choking him, and blood flowing from his neck, he slumped to the ground.

Case 5 – Wide-Eyed Terror

This animal was tied to a tree. His front legs were bound together. His eyes widened in terror as a young man began to saw at his neck. Still conscious and blinking, he could do nothing but stand on his hind legs, with the weight of his body bearing down on the gaping wound in his neck. He died in a gutter, on the streets of Gaza.

Case 6 – Slipping In Blood

On a slaughter room floor, tied to a pole, this bull cowered from the slaughterman attempting to kill him.

The slaughterman thrust the knife into his neck. As the animal recoiled he slipped in his own blood. Each time he fell, he scrambled back to his feet, pulling frantically against his rope.

After almost a full minute of failed attempts to scramble from the slaughterman, he fell for a final time, too weak from blood loss to get back to his feet. As he landed on the blood soaked tiles, slaughtermen sprayed water into the wounds on his neck. He was not the only Australian animal to suffer and die in this room.

Case 7 –  Vocalising In Pain

This bull’s agonised bellowing, during his ordeal, conveyed his terror far beyond what any words could describe.

For almost two minutes after the first cut to his neck, this animal kept fighting. With each approach of the slaughterman he ducked his head or reared up, trying to avoid the knife stabbing at this neck. On at least a dozen approaches, the slaughterman thrust the knife in and cut deeper, and each time the bull vocalised in pain.

Finally, with blood streaming from his wounds, with one man pulling on his tail, three more pulling on a rope around his neck, and surrounded by a crowd of onlookers, he collapsed and died.

Case 8 – Hit, Kicked, Shoved

As this bull lay in the gutter, his neck half-severed, a stream of blood flowed down the road towards him — seemingly from another dying animal. Mixing with his own blood, the red rivulet flowed under and around him, filling the gutter where he lay.

Moments earlier, he had struggled to remain standing, as two men kicked and shoved him, trying to knock him over. When he had fallen and his throat was sawn open, young boys ran up to kick and hit the helpless animal.

The brutality he and other animals endured wasn’t necessary. It had nothing to do with religion. In fact, when these tragic videos were uploaded to YouTube, the suffering was condemned by Muslim commenter’s. It wasn’t ‘halal’. It was the tragic outcome of a live export industry that had failed to protect them.

Case 9 – Hit In The Face, Dragged From A Truck

This bull stood huddled together with two others on the back of a truck. With all his strength he resisted as a crew of men heaved on the rope around his neck. Even after being hit in the face with a broomstick, he continued to resist.

Moments later, as he lay dying on the slaughter room floor, the slaughterman paused, whilst cutting into his throat, to pose for a photo.

Case 10 – Stomped On

This animal’s death was crude and painful. Before reaching the slaughter room he had fallen heavily from a truck and was stomped on. The slaughterman thrust his knife into the animal’s neck, leaving a gaping hole. He then continued to thrust the knife deeper into the wound, un-phased by the suffering he was inflicting on the bull. With his neck agape, the bull clambered to his feet, pulling in vain against the rope around his head. When he collapsed for a final time it was clear that only his eventual death would bring an end to this animal’s suffering.

Case 11 – Hosed With Water

Already wounded from a stab to the neck, this bull let out a meek bellow as the slaughterman cut into him again. When he had fallen to the ground, the slaughtermen began spraying him with water. As he lay bleeding on the floor, they continued to hose him.

When water sprayed into his wounds he shook his head, trying to avoid it. Clearly weak from blood loss, when the next bull was slaughtered, virtually on top of him, he was too weak to react.

Case 12 – Half-Severed Neck

With his head strung up to a post and his front legs bound, this white bull kicked hopelessly at the air, while they slashed his throat. The crowd around him cheered and whistled as he suffered this agonising slaughter.

Even once his throat was cut, there was no end to his suffering. He was forced to hang there, his head pulled upward and the weight of his upper body stretching his half-severed neck wide open. Only his impending death could bring him relief from his suffering.

10 More Cases Documented – All depicting shocking cruelty. Crowds of people including children, cheered & laughed whilst bulls were tormented & abused; before they had their throats slit whilst still conscious !

Filmed by civilians during the Festival of Sacrifice in October 2013, this footage shows cattle being terrorised by crowds and tortured in streets and makeshift slaughterhouses — all in breach of Australia’s live export regulations.

Most Australian politicians precondition their support of live export on animals being treated ‘humanely’ and in accordance with regulations. That is why Animals Australia has provided each MP and Senator with this evidence of abuse, and implored them to watch it. “Do you think if someone committed this horrific cruelty & abuse to a dog out on the street; they wouldn’t be arrested & charged for animal cruelty?? Of course they would!! I see no reason why it should be any different for workers who abuse farm animals.”

Dear DiGoirno,

I was disgusted to see undercover video footage of workers kicking, beating, and stabbing cows at a DiGiorno cheese supplier in Wisconsin called Wiese Brothers Farms. The video also shows cows who are too sick or injured to even stand being callously tortured and dragged by their fragile legs and necks with a chain attached to a tractor.

DiGiorno should not tolerate this blatant animal abuse.

DiGiorno has the power and the ethical responsibility to ensure the cows who produce milk for your cheese are protected from needless violence and suffering.

It’s time for DiGiorno to adopt meaningful animal welfare policies for its dairy suppliers, including:

* Zero tolerance for animal abuse
* Requirement that suppliers provide a clean and sanitary environment for cattle
* Proper care and transportation for sick, injured, and downed animals
* Elimination of mutilations without painkillers, including tail docking, a cruel and outdated practice that involves
cutting through the skin, nerves, and bones of cows and is opposed by the American Veterinary Medical Association

Until DiGiorno decides to do the right thing, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

“The video captures workers engaged in numerous serious acts of direct physical abuse and overt brutality—they whip, beat, slap, kick, stab and yell profanity at the cows. … There is a culture of serious neglect and mistreatment of animals in this facility, and the animals are suffering. This must stop.”

Dr. Debra Teachout

“There is no question in my mind, as a veterinarian experienced with farmed animals, including cows, that much of what was being done to the cows was inhumane, brutal and almost certainly a violation of the anti-cruelty statutes of many if not all states.”

Dr. Nedim Buyukmihci

“Dragging live cows, and completely suspending them with the cow lift is severe animal abuse. The actions of these people went beyond rough handling and escalated to the level of cruelty. Kicking, beating, and hard whipping of downed cows is abusive.”

Dr. Temple Grandin

“Rejoice it’s Christmas, go vegetarian; drive past all the cows & other farm livestock in the fields, look them in the eye & say “I don’t eat your family”…It feels GREAT!!!”

cows

Cows are highly intelligent and friendly animals who can form long-lasting, deep bonds of friendship with other cows and even their human caregivers. Cows have extremely complex social groups and tend to choose the herd leaders for their intelligence, experience and good social skills.

Versus:-

Researchers have shown that factory farmed cows kept in groups of more than 200 become stressed and will continually fight for dominance. Having bonds of friendship broken whenever cows are sold to other farms or slaughterhouses also heightens their stress.

============

Much like humans, cows mourn the deaths of those they love. They even shed tears over the loss of friends who are separated from them. The bond between a mother cow and her calf is particularly strong and cows are widely known to cry out for their calves if they go missing.

Versus

Like humans and other mammals, cows only produce milk when they are pregnant or nursing, so the dairy industry keeps cows in a constant cycle of pregnancy and lactation. Newborn calves are dragged away from their mothers within a day of birth so that all of their milk can be sold for profit.

============

Cows are smart and sophisticated animals who can even understand cause-and-effect relationships, which is a sign of advanced cognitive abilities. Not only do cows swiftly figure out solutions to problems, they find the challenge wonderfully exciting.

Versus

The only thing cows on dairy farms learn is that they are likely to be kicked or beaten on their way to the milking parlor two or three times a day. A study by the dairy industry indicates that nearly 40 percent of cows are lame because of intensive confinement, filth and unnaturally high milk production.

Inspire Others:-

One of the most effective techniques for educating others about the health and ethical benefits of a plant-based diet is distributing literature in public places with heavy foot-traffic.

A great thing about leafleting is the lack of preparation time required. Also, at the right time and place, just one person can hand out hundreds of brochures in less than an hour.

We recommend passing out 25 Reasons To Try Vegetarian brochures which you can order from the MFA Literature Store.

Another great idea is to take MFA’s powerful new “Ask Me Why I’m Vegetarian” T-Shirt Challenge — designed to spark crucial discussions about the ways animals raised for food are treated and our moral obligation to alleviate needless suffering.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Order a men’s or women’s cut “Ask Me Why I’m Vegetarian” t-shirt
  2. Order a packet of 25 Reasons to Try Vegetarian brochures.
  3. Wear your new “Ask Me Why I’m Vegetarian” t-shirt with pride.
  4. When someone asks about your shirt, smile and give them a 25 Reasons brochure from the packet you’ve been keeping in your purse or backpack.
  5. Have a friendly discussion about the reasons you went vegetarian.
  6. Pat yourself on the back. You’ve just inspired someone to move toward a compassionate diet.
  7. Wash your shirt.
  8. Reorder literature.
  9. Repeat.

That’s it! By starting conversations and planting seeds of compassion, you’ll be helping to spare countless animals unimaginable suffering. Simple. Effective. Vital.

Click here to order an “Ask Me Why I’m Vegetarian” t-shirt for $25. Your t-shirt order will include a free 10-pack of 25 Reasons brochures. Click here to order more 25 Reasonsbrochures.

While individual vegetarians save lives every time they sit down to eat, we can exponentially increase the number of animals we help by encouraging others to try vegetarian living too.

Since young people tend to be very interested in vegetarianism—and open to change—college campuses and concerts are particularly good places to leaflet.

Need some inspiration? Consider the math:

Let’s be really conservative and assume that only 1% of the people who receive a brochure decide to go vegetarian after reading it. If you pass out 200 leaflets in an afternoon, that’s at least two new people who became vegetarian.

200 leaflets x 1% = 2 new vegetarians

Based on annual slaughter statistics, the average vegetarian saves over 50 animals per year (about 27 land animals, and many more aquatic animals).

If we assume that, on average, those who do go vegetarian stay vegetarian for at least one year, that equates to at least 100 animals saved from just a few hours of leafleting.

2 new vegetarians x 50 animals per year = 100 animals saved per year

Man Booked for Bestiality in Indore

Comments Off on Man Booked for Bestiality in Indore

INDORE: A man in Aerodrome area was allegedly caught for beating and indulging in a sexual act with his neighbour’s cow on Friday noon.

The accused, 40-year-old Gulab Singh has been arrested in the case, said Aerodrome police station in charge Akhilesh Divedi. “The accused is a labourer in the area and was taken to the police station by the neighbours,” Divedi told TOI.

Divedi said the incident had taken place around 12pm, when the accused was alone at his residence and found a neighbour’s cow tied nearby. He untied it and took the cow inside his house and tied the legs and snout before sexually assaulting the animal.

After sometime, the owner of cow Bindu Jaiswal along with a few neighbours started searching for the missing cow and found Singh allegedly indulging in objectionable activity with the 3-year-old cow. They immediately raised an alarm and took Singh to the police station and lodged a complaint against him.

Jaiswal said that the cops were initially hesitant to lodge a complaint but under pressure from the crowd, they eventually registered one under section 377 (sexual activity against the order of nature) of IPC.

When asked whether the accused was inebriated, police said that during prima facie the accused looked normal. “He appears to be a sadist and mentally disturbed,” the police said.

Graphic Videos: Yet More Egypt Cruelty Footage Emerges

Comments Off on Graphic Videos: Yet More Egypt Cruelty Footage Emerges

“OMG…This has got to be at the top of the pile when it comes to cruelty in abattoirs,  This is torture for animals in a living hell; at its worst. I can’t believe this is still being allowed to happen. The only way we can help to stop this is by sharing, making the public aware of the atrocities going on. We must get people signing the Animals Australia Ban on Live Export petition! Help the Australian people understand what is happening & that some in their government are happy for it to continue.

“Voting happens in September, people need to know the truth, the full horror of the export trade; before they cast they vote. We have to rise up, voice our disgust & demand better welfare for these animals; if we don’t who will? This Torture can not be allowed to carry on..PERIOD!! So please share, cross-post etc. If you get an error message when clicking on my link, don’t worry, it’s not spam, it is an error, Facebook have been informed of it! “

“I’m describing the video so that you really are aware of what you’re about to see, should you choose to press play. The first video is horrific, the steers are put in a machine that turns them upside down, then their throats are slit. As they tumble out of the contraption, they stand, their sliced throats flap around as they look for escape! But the second video is the worst. Jacob, a lone steer is repeatedly stabbed with a knife into his eyes, his tendons are slashed repeatedly until he goes down…then his final minutes of torture end with his throat once again being repeatedly slashed. How the fuck is this possible; do their lives really mean so little, that their owners & governments are prepared to stand by; & do nothing??

Further shocking evidence has surfaced of Australian cattle being abused in an Egyptian abattoir.

The footage reveals conscious animals walking around with gaping throat cuts in an Egyptian abattoir that has been hailed by industry as ‘state-of-the-art’.

Once more, this reinforces the cruel nature of un-stunned slaughter. Yet inconceivably, Labor, the Coalition and the live export industry have all rejected calls for mandatory stunning of animals in the live trade.

Just over a week ago, evidence provided by Animals Australia of cruelty to Australian cattle in Egypt sparked a government investigation. This latest evidence was brought to Animals Australia’s attention this week and immediately provided to the Department of Agriculture.

Once again, the industry’s mantra of needing to stay in a market to improve welfare has been exposed for what it is: PR spin designed to maintain producer and government support.

Sadly, farmers have again been deceived by the very industry bodies that purport to represent them. They are being told that their animals are well cared for overseas, only to consistently find out otherwise.

The sky won’t fall in if live export ends. Most Australian farmers don’t live export and those who do can be assisted to transition away from the trade — a move that would be better for them and better for animals.

Shocking live export cruelty in Egypt – Sokhna Viewer Discretion Advised

Published on 6 May 2013

TAKE ACTION NOW: http://www.BanLiveExport.com/egypt

Animals Australia’s latest live export investigation revealed terrified animals making desperate efforts to escape after having their throats cut open; others with eyes stabbed; leg tendons slashed; and being butchered while still alive… This is the nightmare endured by animals who were exported live from Australia to Egypt.

Shocking live export cruelty in Egypt – Ismailia Viewer Discretion Strongly Advised

Published on 6 May 2013

Shocking cruelty captured in Egypt’s Ismailia abattoir shows an injured Australian steer stabbed in the eyes, and disabled by having his leg tendons slashed.

HELP END THIS CRUELTY:http://www.BanLiveExport.com/egypt

“The following are “excerpts” from an article in the Tasmanian Times. Please read & do what is necessary to get this torture stopped.”

Iin the House of Representatives, Independent Member for Denison Andrew Wilkie courageously stood up in Parliament with this picture of ‘Jacob’ and demanded some answers from Prime Minister Gillard, who could only reiterate that the government’s system is ‘working’. Andrew’s questioning of the government can be seen here, as well as the totally predictable and fatuous response of the Prime Minister claiming that this evil, disgraceful trade in wretched animal misery and suffering has a ‘social licence’.

The Steer is named Jacob; he is the victim in the second video above

Some things are so obscene, and so depraved, that nothing can ever justify them, and the live animal export trade is absolutely one of those things.

Be careful what you wish for when you cast your vote at the September Federal election. A vote for the coalition will see even more support for the gross animal abuse seen throughout Animals Australia’s 19 investigations. Tony Abbott says ‘one of his first jobs will be to apologise to the Indonesians for the ‘catastrophic’ ban on the cattle trade’ there following the exposure of similar torture of our cattle shown on the ‘Four Corners’ program’A Bloody Business’  in May 2011. In this, the Gillard government and the Abbott coalition are as one.

Will Abbott and his sycophants also want to apologise to Egypt? Bahrain? Kuwait? Pakistan? Malaysia? And all the other countries to which Australia happily sends millions of innocent, gentle animals to be so heinously abused? Tony Abbott wants to make the all-but-meaningless ESCAS ‘more exporter friendly’, if that is indeed possible.

Jacob, the Australian bull filmed at an Egyptian slaughterhouse last month, spent his last horrific many minutes of life having his eyes stabbed and his leg tendons slashed. He had been forced into an appallingly cruel slaughter box, from which, in panic, he escaped, trying to run on three legs because one was already broken. His throat had been slashed and he ran with his head almost hanging off. Jacob was a gentle, Western Australian Brahman bull, who had done nothing wrong. He spent weeks on a Third World live export ship on his way to Egypt before facing this ultimate horror and depravity.

The evidence of the abuse first came from a courageous Egyptian veterinarian, Dr Abdelwahab, a man with seven years experience in Egyptian abattoirs. He expressed to Animals Australia that animal cruelty in Egypt is rife and that neither abattoir management nor on-site veterinarians intervene to stop cruel treatment. He said ‘this action happened yesterday, today, and it will happen tomorrow’. He described the facilities, claimed to be ‘state of the art’ by the Australian government and exporters, detailing the slaughterbox used there which turns the terrified animals upside down, often crushing their ribs and pelvises in the process.

So please demand that your current Federal MPs and Senators do whatever it takes to bring down this trade. But also take it up with coalition candidates as well, because their agenda is to EXPAND this morally bankrupt industry. Don’t be fooled by the argument that if Australia withdraws from the trade the animal abuse will be even worse, because if millions of Australian animals are nor put on the rotten old ships, that is millions of animals saved – and that many less animals subjected to this horriific and systemic torture. No other countries can supply the volume of animals Australia does.

Don’t buy the argument that the ‘cattle in the north are starving;’ either. If these people have bred thousands of animals for this trade which is going nowhere if the Australian people are heard by their government, then they are obligated to feed and care for them. If they don’t, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as anyone else would be. Their failure to respond to market forces is their fault and no-one else’s, and there is no more subsidised and privileged sector in the community than the ever-complaining farmers.

Most importantly, make your vote count.Suzanne Cass. http://www.liveexportshame.comhttp://www.stoptac.org Stop Tasmanian Animal Cruelty PO Box 252 BRIDGEWATER TAS 7030http://www.stoptac.org http://www.liveexportshame.comWatch The Debate: Andrew Wilkie Questions The Prime Minister On Live Export

Farmer Admits Animal Cruelty

Comments Off on Farmer Admits Animal Cruelty

A FARMER was given a suspended prison sentence and banned from keeping animals for 10 years after pleading guilty to seven offences of breaching animal health and welfare legislation.

Andrew Cockerill, who keeps cattle at The Grazings, Rosedale Abbey, appeared before Scarborough magistrates last month following an  investigation by North Yorkshire County Council‘s Trading Standards service.

Cockerill was sentenced to 26 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 2 years, 150 hours community service, ordered to pay costs of over £1,600 and also received a 10 year ban from keeping all animals.

The investigation began in 2012 following joint working between Trading Standards Service and the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (Executive Agency).

The court heard officers visited Cockerill’s farm numerous times between July and December last year and found approximately 50 cattle being kept in ‘hazardous and potentially dangerous conditions’.

Cockerill was prosecuted previously by the council in relation to animal welfare offences and at that time he was made to reduce the number of cattle he kept.
