Pregnant dog burned alive, gets help from local animal rescue group

"OMG...this is beyond sickening, I can't see the dog walking willingly into fire, so she was either burnt or doused in some type of chemical; on purpose. I pray they catch the scum that did this & will keep her in my prayers, in the hopes that all her pups make it & she finds a forever loving home!"

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A pregnant dog that was severely burned is doing much better after being taken in by a local animal rescue group.

“Someone did something unkind to this very sweet dog,” says Donna Casamento with Big Dog Ranch Rescue.

Pregnant dog burnt is carrying puppies

It’s something so unkind, it’s horrific to view.  Nina, a terrier mix, has second to third degree burns on her chest, all the way down to her legs.

“It’s been a very very sad situation. We weren’t sure when we first got her how the burns happened,” said Casamento.

But Donna thinks Nina’s burns may have been intentional. And what makes this worse, she’s pregnant.

“Whether she walked into a fire on the ground, like a fire pit or was pushed into a fire pit. Dogs don’t walk into those kind of situations,” she said.”

Now the race is on to save the unborn dogs while Nina recovers. “It’s somewhat difficult for us to tell exactly if the puppies are still alive yet,” Casamento said.

Nina was brought up yesterday from Miami-Dade rescue.  Veterinarians here are taking care of her around the clock. “Every couple of hours, she’s getting this applied to her and then several baths throughout the day,” said Donna. “We’re giving her pain medication about every three or four hours at this point.”

The hope is eventually to find her and her babies, a loving home. “In spite what she’s been through, all she wants to do is sit with her head in our lap and get love. This is a great dog,” she said.

Vets say once Nina becomes comfortable, they’ll be able to perform an ultrasound to see if the puppies are alive. They’re asking the community to help with donations for Nina’s care. Find out how you can help at their website, http://www.bdrr.org/ .

Miami-Dade animal rescue is investigating the case.

Sexually Twisted Man Abuses Puppy in the WORST Way

Comments Off on Sexually Twisted Man Abuses Puppy in the WORST Way

“OMG…this sick, evil, heinous, filthy & pitiful excuse of a human, violated an innocent sentient being; who had no way of asking for help. Thank God, the neighbours saw him, had they not, this would have carried on! But, what’s more worrying to me, is how long has this monster being indulging in his perverted pleasures, behind closed doors & has it only been animals he has abused??? This POS below certainly deserves more than 5 years in prison, all who commit such vile & crude acts, should be given a lot of psychological evaluations; before ever being allowed to mingle around normal people with young families & pets! A large percentage re-offend within months of leaving prison….which just shows that prison isn’t the right place for these perverts! It has long been documented that some of these sub-humans, start abusing & or mutilating animals, before they become sexually interested with either animals or children; it could start with animals & then progress to children or the other way around.”

“I think the only way to help protect animals from human rapist’s is to have an ‘Animal Abuse/paedophile Registry’ in each County! The similar Human Paedophile Registries closely monitor child abusers etc. so why not have them for those who sexually harm animals. I think will be an invaluable tool to help police & dog shelters etc. keep tabs on the undesirables & also identify new abusers. How else do the police keep an eye on animal rapists? they can’t really! These Animal abuse/rape ‘Registries’ should be up & running ASAP before more animals are harmed or children put into dangerous situation. When abusers get out of prison, who’s to say they won’t start again, where they left off? Do you think 5 years of prison will stop their despicable sexual fantasies? because  I don’t! If this sick bastard could do that to a puppy, how safe will children be around him? When he is released, the public have a right to know his new or old address; so they can keep their animals & family safe! But the police have a duty to keep the public safe, which is why it’s imperative to ensure, each & every County has an ‘Animal Abuse Registry” if they don’t…well, it’s just down to praying said offender won’t repeat their sickening fetishes; sadly it’s all too common for abusers to re-offend!” Personally, I think they should all be castrated & left to rot on an island in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by great white sharks!”

A Florida man was convicted of heinous acts against an 8-month-old puppy and sentenced to prison, however, the sentence doesn’t seem nearly long enough for the crimes.

61-year-old James Guy Bull from Daytona Beach. Booking Photo

(Don’t forget the face of the pervert above!!!)

61-year-old James Guy Bull from Daytona Beach pleaded guilty to two counts of felony cruelty to animals, misdemeanor animal cruelty charges and misdemeanor sexual activities involving animals, according to USAToday.

Bull was set to go to trial for the charges, but he instead pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison.

State Attorney R.J. Larizza called the facts surrounding the horrific abuse case “incomprehensible and vile” after the sentence was handed down on Friday.

“The defendant’s abuse of the helpless dog shocks the collective conscience of the citizens of the Seventh Circuit and beyond.”

Back in March some of Bull’s neighbors came forward with allegations of seeing him fondling the small pit bull puppy’s private areas on several different occasions despite the dog crying and whimpering for him to stop. One neighbor said that at one point they were walking by Bull’s home and caught him in the act of having sex with the puppy named Coco, according to prosecutor

“When (Bull) saw (him), he pulled up his pants and put the dog down,” court records show.

Police went to Bull’s home to investigate and that’s when they found the “clearly emaciated” dog chained to a post on the front porch with almost no room to move.

“She had about 8 inches of free reign, no water, no shelter and no food for her,” an affidavit said. The dog was “skittish and obviously afraid,” and showed signs of physical sexual abuse.

The good news is that while Bull sits behind bars for the next five years, Coco, who’s now named Rose, has been placed in safe custody with an animal rescue group and should be okay after a while.

I often wonder what kind of twisted person would do such a thing to a helpless dog who, if given the chance, would only want to love him and be his loyal friend. Five years doesn’t seem like nearly enough for such vile acts.

Do you think his sentence is appropriate? Let us know with a comment. – Don’t forget to “like” the above on Facebook and follow me on Twitter

James Guy Bull will spend the next five years of his life in prison for raping an eight-month-old female terrier dog on his front porch reported the Facebook page of Rose’s Road to Recovery Friday afternoon.

A huge crowd gathered outside the Daytona, Florida courtroom; sentencing was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Bull pleaded guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges for sexual acts with an animal and animal cruelty. According to the firstcoastnews.com, State Attorney R.J. Larizza called the heinous acts “incomprehensible and vile.”

“The defendant’s abuse of the helpless dog shocks the collective conscience of the citizens of the Seventh Circuit and beyond,” stated Larizza.

Bull, 61, was arrested in March when neighbors called authorities after hearing Bull’s young dog yelp and cry as if in pain. Witnesses told police they had seen Bull raping the dog, and “he had pulled up his pants and put the dog down” when he knew others had seen his despicable act with the puppy.

When authorities arrived, they found a “clearly emaciated” dog who was “obviously afraid.” The dog, named Rose has since recovered, and has been under the care of the Second Chance Rescue NYC.

The organization’s Facebook page, Rose’s Road to Recovery began in April when the dog arrived at Second Chance Rescue:

“This page was made to tell Rose’s painful story; to be her voice. The only way to fight animal abuse is to make people aware of stories like this and try to get more people to speak out and do something.”

By RYAN GORMAN

  • Police say Sara Zamora mutilated and beat to death chickens while performing sex acts on camera
  • She also karate-chopped and killed rabbits and other animals, cops said
  • The heinous acts were filmed for a fetish video titled ‘SOS Barn’

A Miami woman faces up to 40 years in jail after being charged with an unthinkable crime – killing animals while performing sex acts for fetish videos.

Sara Zamora’

Sara Zamora, 28, decapitated chickens, beat rabbits to death and more for sexual gratification, Miami-Dade Police claimed.

The sickening videos were filmed at the Homestead home of Adam Redford, 54, of Homestead, said cops. He declined comment when reached by MailOnline.

An arrest report cited by the Miami Herald details the horrors carried out by Zamora and others in a video called ‘SOS Barn.’

Zamora and other women were shown in the the video ‘torturing and killing a wide variety of animals, including chickens, rabbits and more for the sexual gratification of its viewers,’ said the report.

The mortifying video is part of a genre of pornography called ‘crush,’ according to the paper.

Zamora is said by police to have been groping a man’s genitals with her left hand while ‘repeatedly cutting a chicken’s neck using hedge clippers with her right’ in one video.

Other videos had her scantily clad while ‘hacking off the head of another screaming bird, or [beating] chickens to death with a wooden stick.’

She is also shown karate-chopping the necks of rabbits while they howled in pain, police said, adding that she admitted to killing them.

’I’m glad I didn’t have breakfast because I would have puked all over the place,’ the woman’s defence attorney told the paper after he viewed portions of the video in court. ‘It was disgusting.’

Redford was already on parole for a similar animal cruelty violation last year, he has yet to be charged in the heinous crimes.

Adam Renford (right), he has yet to be charged but has a prior animal cruelty conviction

The ship captain’s website boasts that he has ‘been a part of many video productions related to South Florida fishing.’

Zamora’s Model mayhem profile, in which she goes by Gloria Shynez, talks up her ‘Middle-Eastern look,’ which she says ‘distinguishes from many models.

‘I am so excited to see what fun, beautiful shots we create together!’

Other Florida listings for a Gloria Shynez appear on Tampa Foot Party, tickle fetish sites and on another site that claims she ‘is a hot model available for nude and fetish custom videos.’

Her rates are flexible and she is ‘extremely easy to work with,’ according to her Model Mayhem profile.

Zamora was was hit with eight felony counts of animal cruelty, each carries a maximum five year prison sentence if convicted.

She was already on parole for a litany of criminal charges including grant theft with a firearm, multiple counts of credit card fraud, holding a fake driver’s license and multiple drug possession counts, records showed.

The repeat offender had been in jail for the past month after violating the terms of her parole by failing a drug test, according to the paper.

She was due to be set free and was arrested only hours before her scheduled release.

Comments Off on Man Gets 14-Year Sentence For Dog Death

A Sarasota, Florida man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the beating death of his boss’s dog. Kevin Koscielniak pleaded no contest to charges including animal cruelty and armed burglary.

John Olaya with Ashton as a puppy

Back in April, Koscielniak had been sent home from work at John’s Automotive for showing up intoxicated and causing a disturbance. The next morning, owner John Olaya called the sheriff’s office to report that his four-year-old mastiff named Ashton was missing.

Later in the day, he reviewed video surveillance footage and was horrified to see Koscielniak beat his dog to death with a tire iron.

The man had scaled a barbed wire fence, committed his heinous act and wrapped Ashton’s body in a blanket before burying him on an adjacent property.

Kevin Koscielniak – May you be plagued by your hateful sins for evermore!

Koscielniak was found and arrested by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with one count of cruelty to animals resulting in death, one count of improper disposal of dead animals, one count of tampering with evidence, two counts of burglary and one count for damage to the fence.

“This was a senseless act of violence indicative of a depraved mind,” said state prosecutor Art Jackman.

He was sentenced to 14 years in prison, five years probation and he is prohibited from contacting Ashton’s owners. “Now that’s what I call justice!”

Hidalgo County Man Back in Jail After Having Sex With A Horse Again

Comments Off on Hidalgo County Man Back in Jail After Having Sex With A Horse Again

“I don’t think any kind of treatment can help here, aside from chopping his dick off!!. After so many repeated rapes on animals, how long before he turns his attention to children? He is a threat & should be locked away in either a jail or mental home; just get him off the streets!!

Cirilo Castillo Jr., 43 of Edinburg, Texas was back in court on Wednesday and charged with criminal trespass and animal cruelty for having sex with a horse.

Most animal welfare laws view zoophilia as animal abuse. According to Wikipedia, there are 18 states that have no specific bestiality laws; Texas is one of them. Florida passed a bestiality law in 2011.

According to the Monitor.com, Castillo was released from jail on June 25 for public lewdness and having sex with the mare named Nadia.

On June 28, he was caught on a video surveillance camera having sex with the same horse again.

A previous record shows another arrest in January 2012 for similar allegations.

The Houston Chronicle states Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino describes Castillo as a laborer with prior arrests for theft and possession of marijuana. The Sheriff stated:

The guy is practically harmless, except for the horse. I can’t just ignore this and allow it to keep happening.”

The Sheriff is hoping Justice of the Peace Bobby Contreras will order Castillo to get treatment. Bond was set at $35,000.

Great Dane Found Decomposing Inside St. Pete Home

Comments Off on Great Dane Found Decomposing Inside St. Pete Home

“WTF…everybody, please take note of the picture below, a callous, cold hearted bitch; who left a dog to die in agonizing circumstances. Ban this evil cow from ever owning any animals again, stick her in a secluded jail cell with no food  & water, until she screams for help, make her suffer; she how she likes it!”

The odour had persisted for days when the neighbour went to investigate. What was discovered: a large Great Dane decomposing on the floor of the living room. The scene was ghastly as the dog was said to be reduced to a pool of liquid, and covered by maggots.

The renter of the home, Alyssa Anderson, is now behind bars on charges of felony animal abuse for leaving the dog inside and unattended for nearly two weeks.

Alyssa Anderson was arrested for Felony Animal Abuse after a Great Dane was found decomposing on the floor of her rented, St. Petersburg home.

“It appears she left the dog alone with no water or food for 11 days, and clearly the animal succumbed to starvation,” said St. Pete Police spokesman Mike Puetz.

WARNING: Graphic images of the scene inside Anderson’s home

Neighbours said Anderson would come and go for days on end, and they would hear the dog barking incessantly at all hours of the day and night.

Over the past week, again, they heard the barking, but in the later days, the barks changed to yelps in what were its last, desperate cries for help.  And then the barking stopped.

“I’m disturbed by it, seriously disturbed. I mean, it was a horrible thing to do,” said neighbour Sharon Warden.

“This was a horrible situation that this dog suffered in agony,” said Puetz.

Anderson remains in the Pinellas County jail on a $5,000 bond.

Have You Heard About the Disturbing New Animal Abuse Trend Known as ‘Trunking? Petition To Stop This Inc.

Comments Off on Have You Heard About the Disturbing New Animal Abuse Trend Known as ‘Trunking? Petition To Stop This Inc.

“I sadly have to say this is nothing new, it’s been going on for years; which is why I included the video as proof.  Isn’t treacherous dog fighting brutal & cruel enough for these sickos? Are people becoming so desensitised to the value of innocent life, that they have to create sicker and sicker means of “entertainment? What happens to the dog that’s won the fight but beaten up badly in doing so? They are not going to spend money on fixing up these dogs because they don’t mean anything to them in the first place…they will just be thrown out with the trash & the thugs will get another; there are always plenty homeless pit bulls  to be had!.”

“Abuse like this will not stop until the laws are changed. A few days in prison or a fine isn’t going to stop these dick heads!! Lets face it, if they are that cold-hearted as to put 2 dogs in a trunk to fight to the death…what value do they put on a human life, other people’s property? what do they give to the community??? Enough said; so make the punishment a real one, that hopefully will deter others & stick by it.”

“Don’t know about you guys, but I am sick of reading the appalling abuse these beautiful dogs go through! The breed nobody wants from a shelter because they are deemed vicious!! But they aren’t born that way, it’s not their fault & they shouldn’t have to pay with their lives for the damage done; when all they have ever known is violence & fighting. Make the humans who taught them all they know pay for it; not the dogs!!”

June 4th 2013 – What is “trunking?” It involves dogs (typically pit bulls), the trunks of cars, and possibly some of the most inhumane treatment of animals seen in a long time.

How does trunking work? According to animal rights activists, this is what happens during a trunking:

  • Two dogs are locked into the trunk of a car and then driven around.
  • The car’s stereo plays at a loud volume in order to cover the sounds of the fighting.
  • After a short time or when the fighting appears to have stopped, the dead dog is tossed out and the survivor goes on to fight again.

“And Here Is It In Action – This is not a new craze as one can tell by the video date!  As always viewer discretion advised.

Hidden in Darkness: ‘Trunking’ is Dog Fighting’s Ugly Secret

Uploaded on 22 Aug 2008

NEW YORK — One of the most barbaric forms of animal cruelty has an underbelly which for years has remained literally hidden in darkness: “Trunking” is dog fighting‘s ugly secret.

The latest and most-publicized incident of trunking came to the attention of authorities after a woman in Florida’s Miami-Dade County area reported seeing dogs being put into the trunks of cars in order to have them fight to the death.

Animal control authorities visited the reported location and found 10 dogs, many exhibiting wounds that are typically associated with fighting.

The Miami Herald reports that the home where these dogs were discovered was the focus of a pit bull investigation in June 2012. The breed is illegal in the county and someone called to say that pit bulls were running loose in the neighborhood. The person who lived there denied owning the animals but received a citation.

Additional complaints were called in just two weeks ago. Callers reported the pit bulls were still on the loose and that one had killed a neighbor’s dog.

Puppy Left For Dead Both Hind Legs Shot, Bill Aims To Crack Down On Animal Cruelty

Comments Off on Puppy Left For Dead Both Hind Legs Shot, Bill Aims To Crack Down On Animal Cruelty

“WTF…if anybody knows the callous, cruel hearted bastard that did this; please contact the number below…do everybody a favour & get the psycho off the streets & in jail; for a very long time…with both his kneecaps blown off!!”

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. (WTXL)Wakulla County deputies are trying to figure out who left a puppy on the side of the road after being shot in both of his legs.

Zeke weighed only 18 pounds when he was found abandoned and left to die. He should weigh twice that much. Meanwhile Zeke will have to get stronger before he is strong enough to undergo surgery to repair one of his legs and possibly amputate the other. Florida lawmakers just passed a bill this past legislative session aiming to crack down on this.

Wakulla County animal officers say its not uncommon for pets to be dropped off on the side of the road, but they say they’ve never found one that’s been shot.

Its the sound of pain and agony from a nearly four-month old golden shepherd that has Wakulla County Animal workers on a mission to find out who abandoned him.

“It was a very heinous, heinous act, shooting a malnourished dog,” said Dr. Guhrt.

Dr. Reed Guhrt has been treating the puppy they named Zeke since animal shelter found him shot in both of his legs last Thursday.

Zeke weighed only 18 pounds when he was found abandoned and left to die.

“There’s a possibility that this leg will have to be amputated because pieces of his bones are just missing, there are no bones left,” said Dr. Guhrt.

Zeke was also covered with ticks and fleas when they found him. Dr. Guhrt says he was shot with a high caliber gun and now he can barely walk.

The dog obtained some serious injuries and somebody caused it to an animal and didn’t have any respect to an animal life,” said Dr. Guhrt.

Its tragic incidents like this that prompted Florida lawmakers to unanimously pass tougher animal cruelty laws, that may carry fines of up to $10,000 and or misdemeanor and felony charges. Governor Rick Scott hasn’t signed the bill, but it would take effect on July 1st if he signs it or allows it to become law without his signature

Mark Carter, a Wakulla County animal control officer says they support the law hoping it will take effect this summer.

“Hopefully when you toughen up on animal cruelty or animal abuse or animal neglect maybe that puts something in their minds that says, hey I think to think twice before I do this,” said Carter.

Who harmed zeke is still a mystery but Dr. Guhrt says the good news he’s on his way to recovery.

“Everyday he’s coming to the office he appears to be doing better and better,” said Dr. Guhrt.

Wakulla County animal control officers say if know of any animals being abused or know anything about this particular case you’re urged to contact them or the sheriff’s office.

Also, the Crawfordville Animal hospital is accepting donations for Zeke. Call 850-926-2089.

‘Joe Exotic’ Files For Bankruptcy Protection After Court Ruling

Comments Off on ‘Joe Exotic’ Files For Bankruptcy Protection After Court Ruling

“There are 2 news pieces in this post! Now, just about everybody knows Mr. Michael Sandlin, who owns & displays Tony ‘The truck stop tiger in Louisianan  Animal advocates, the ALDF & Mr Sandlin have been at the centre of a costly court case concerning Tony. Advocates say a truck stop is not a good place for a tiger to live, which I agree with! I have posted several videos of Tony, taken by my good friend Mary! But what does this have to do with Joe Exotic; who has just filed bankruptcy??

Well, Sandlin is a good friend of Joe Schreibvogel & last year, Sandlin was quoted as saying “if he was forced to move ‘Tony the truck stop tiger’ he would send him to G.W Exotics ( now called G.W. Zoo ) So I was wondering, if it actually came down to Mr Sandlin having to move Tony the tiger, would he still go to Joe Exotics?? I don’t know what the legal stance would be, moving yet another tiger into a zoo, with a lawsuit hanging over their head? G.W. Exotics were even asking for donations, to build Tony a suitable enclosure!!

Just six weeks after a federal judge ordered him to pay a Florida animal sanctuary nearly $1 million to settle a lawsuit, a Wynnewood man who goes by the name Joe Exotic has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.

Joe Schreibvogel, who also goes by the names Aarron Alex and Cody Ryan, lists debts totaling $1.2 million, most of which are traceable to the judgment handed down in February by a judge in Florida.

Schreibvogel, who operated what is now the G.W. Zoo in Wynnewood from the late 1990s until February, in court records lists assets of $127,739. Roughly half of that total is in the form of vehicles used to run the animal park.

Schreibvogel lists 43 tigers and five black bears as personal property. Records show the carnivores are worth an “unknown” sum of money.

Schreibvogel also owes more than $30,000 to attorneys who worked on the trademark infringement case, records show.

An affidavit signed by Schreibvogel and filed in federal court states he “became unemployed on Feb. 26, 2013, and I am not receiving any monthly income.”

During a recent interview with The Oklahoman, Schreibvogel said he would file for bankruptcy protection because he didn’t have the roughly $1 million the judge in Florida ordered him to pay the owners of Big Cat Rescue.

Schreibvogel and Big Cat Rescue founder Carole Baskin have been publicly feuding for years over their philosophical differences on the exotic pet trade.

The suit involved Schreibvogel’s use of logos and images that were similar to those created and owned by the Florida animal park.

In the suit, attorneys for Big Cat Rescue alleged Schreibvogel and his associates launched a “counter-campaign of disinformation, misinformation and disparagement” aimed at damaging the credibility of the Florida organization.

The sanctuary’s lawyers claimed Schreibvogel used a logo and other artistic elements “confusingly similar” to materials trademarked by Big Cat Rescue.

Schreibvogel admits he did model a logo for Big Cat Rescue Entertainment — one of the many businesses he’s formed over the years — after the Florida sanctuary’s design, but said he didn’t realize it was wrong to do so.

“We thought we were in the clear,” he said. “We thought they only owned ‘Big Cat Rescue’ with a cat jumping over it.”

Schreibvogel, known for performing magic shows and bringing tiger cubs to shopping malls for paid photographs with the public, said a new company is running the G.W. Zoo. He said he will continue to house his animals at the facility, just off Interstate 35 in Wynnewood.

“They’re my animals … I’m still licensed to exhibit,” he said. “By law, I do not have to be a (business) to exhibit.”

WYNNEWOOD, Okla., April 3 (UPI) — An Oklahoma man who goes by the name “Joe Schreibvogel or Joe Exotic” filed for bankruptcy after being ordered to pay nearly $1 million to settle a trademark infringement lawsuit.

Joe Schreibvogel also known as Joe Exotic of Wynnewood said he has debts amounting to $1.2 million, most of which are attributable to a judgment filed against him in February by a federal judge in Florida, The (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman reported Wednesday.

He also owes in excess of $30,000 in attorney’s fees for the trademark case.

From the late 1990s until February, Schreibvogel operated what is now the G.W. Zoo in WynnewoodThe Oklahoman reported. He listed assets valued at vehicles and other assets of $127,739, plus 43 tigers and five black bears as personal property, which are worth an “unknown” amount, the newspaper said.

The trademark infringement case stems for a feud between Schreibvogel and Big Cat Rescue founder Carole Baskin in Florida. The case involved Schreibvogel’s use of images and logos similar to those designed and owned by Big Cat Rescue.

Schreibvogel said he modeled a logo for one of his businesses, Big Cat Rescue Entertainment, after the Florida business’ logo, but said he didn’t realize he did not have the right to do so.

“Wouldn’t any normal owner just higher the gate, or am I just being stupid? would that be too simple…Fxxxxxg arse holes, I suppose they got off with a slapped wrist, if they were caught, can’t find anything to suggest they were prosecuted. Oh, how animals must hate us human beings & I don’t blame them one bit! I would take this baby in a heartbeat if I could, somebody is going to get a little angel!”

A dog which had his back legs cut off with a machete has learned to walk again thanks to the attention of dedicated specialists.

Fabio, a four-year-old Maltese, was cruelly mutilated by a previous owner after attempting to climb over a chain-link fence.

Now he is set to be fitted with a new pair of prosthetic legs to stop him suffering from agonising pain as he runs around exploring the world.

The adorable dog was rescued from his abusive home in Miami by Florida Poodle Rescue last month, according to ABC Action News. (see ABC story below)

When he was taken in his back legs had been cut off just above the paw joint – the equivalent of the human ankle

Joani Ellis, from the rescue home, suggested his legs were ‘probably tied off with some type of tying mechanism and hacked off with a machete’.

She added: ‘The story was that his feet were cut off because he was trying to be an escape artist and climb a chain link fence.

Rehabilitation: Fabio is set to be given prosthetic legs to avoid the pain he seems to feel while walking

However, the adventurous pet is nonetheless able to walk around – albeit at a reduced pace – and is looking for new home.

This week Fabio was flown to New Orleans for specialist treatment by leading veterinarian Allison Barca.

She told ABC that the dog was ‘making it on his own’, but appeared confident that her team would be able to alleviate his continuing pain and discomfort.

Dr Barca has experience with animal prosthetics, having helped to fit a Shetland pony with a new leg in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

On parade: The dog could be joining his new roommates marching in a New Orleans second line parade

And she said that Fabio is likely to require similar treatment, receiving artificial extensions to his limbs which will help his mobility.

I just think he needs something to help the stumps to feel comfortable as they remodel through life and to keep them protected from hitting the ground,’ she said.

‘You just can’t order a set of boots that are going to strap to his legs. They’re going to have to be altered to fit this little dog individually.’

The unfortunate pet will be housed at a rehabilitation home for injured dogs, and could soon join his new roommates at a second line parade in the city.

Another take on the story

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Four-year-old Fabio, a Maltese, is moving around Monday afternoon like he does most days, slowly but surely. But starting tomorrow, Fabio’s life will likely change forever; for the better.

“Fabio will fly to New Orleans and he will be examined by Dr. Allison Barca.  She’s put together of team of specialists to examine him,” said Joani Ellis of Florida Poodle Rescue.

His back legs hacked off just below the joint by someone who didn’t want him to jump over a backyard fence, Fabio has adapted and gets by at his own speed.

“Fabio does not need us.  Fabio’s making it on his own.  We’re just going to try to make it better for him,” said Dr. Barca by phone from New Orleans.

Dr. Barca was part of a group that outfitted Molly the Shetland pony with a prosthetic leg after Hurricane Katrina.  Barca says there’s several avenues of help to explore when it comes to Fabio.

“I just think he needs something to help the stumps to feel comfortable as they remodel through life and to keep them protected from hitting the ground.  The two little booties are not going to match. In other words, you just can’t order a set of boots that are going to strap to his legs.  They’re going to have to be altered to fit this little dog individually,” explained Barca.

Fabio will also spend time at Dag’s House, a rehab home for dogs with physical challenges.  Some of those dogs have even walked in second-line parades in the Big Easy.

“I would love to be waving a handkerchief and following Fabio in a second-line parade, that would be my dream,” Ellis said.

Big plans for such a small dog who once faced some pretty tough odds.
