FIVE people face animal cruelty charges following an investigation into the treatment of animals at Gippsland‘s LE Giles abattoir.
Department of Primary Industries today released a statement saying five people have been charged under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1996.
“The charges were laid following an investigation into the abattoir as a result of cruelty allegations made in November last year,” the statement said.
“As the matter is before the courts DPI will not be commenting further.”
The Weekly Times has previously reported the Trafalgar abattoir closed in November last year after a video showing alleged cruelty to pigs was released.
The Weekly Times understands the matters are listed to be heard at the Latrobe Valley Law Courts on May 18.
