VIDEO: Leopard Terrorises Hospital Patients In Indian City Rampage

“This leopard didn’t kill anyone, it was hardly a rampage; it was merely hungry! Humans can’t take away their natural habitat & expect them to just move on! It is humans that are at fault here; by taking away the leopards land etc. Animals go where the food is, they are very territorial, taking away their land involves taking away their food supply, so of course they are going to look elsewhere for food!

“This poor Leopard must have been scared to death, from the deafening crowd outside…the Forest Rangers or Police should have cord-end off the area & let the Leopard leave the same way it came in! The crowds were ridiculous, so I have no pity for anyone who was harmed…they shouldn’t have been so bloody nosey or so loud! I’m just praying the leopard isn’t caught by locals; if it is, they will surely make it pay, like they have with others they have captured….by burning it to death in a cage or beating it to death!! (As in the picture below) “

As a man-eating tiger preys on villagers in the jungle, a leopard is prowling an Indian city’s streets.

Soldiers, police and wildlife experts were today hunting a leopard which walked into a hospital ward in Meerut, a large city in northern India, and caused panic among staff and patients.

The big cat was first spotted by a timber merchant who saw it emerging from a lavatory in his warehouse and alerted the police on Sunday morning.

Two people in a large crowd which gathered at the site were reported to have been attacked by the leopard after one of them lifted a plank under which it had been hiding.

It was later seen by a caretaker at the Meerut Cantonment Hospital in the heart of the city’s military area where it walked onto a ward where several men were being treated.

Staff at the hospital helped the patients escape the ward and then locked the doors to trap the leopard inside.

It managed to escape and a hunt is now under way to track it down.

“The leopard was last spotted on Monday at around 3:30am on a road near the hospital but since then there have been no sightings. We are keeping a vigil but there is a strong possibility that it has returned to its natural habitat,” said Abhishek Singh, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Meerut.

“It was hit by a tranquilizer dart but we are not sure how effective that was. The animal was scared and was running away from people and in this commotion few people were injured. We were trying to control the crowds from getting near the leopard,” he added.

Villagers kill leopard in India

This poor leopard was beaten to death by villagers!

Ashok Kumar of the Wildlife Trust of India said more leopards are straying into towns because humans are increasingly encroaching on their habitats.

“This is happening very frequently because their habitats are shrinking and they come into human habitation for food and space,” he said. “So one can not say these animals are hunting humans for food, they are merely looking for food because humans took their food source away…if someone gets in their way & makes them feel threatened; one can’t blame the animal, it’s only acting on instinct!!”

Personal: I’m Back But Only For A short While

Hi All

Firstly, may I just say thank you to those who sent get well wishes etc. I really appreciate your kind words & prayers.

Well, the prayers worked, it’s been several weeks since I had this first part of spinal surgery & I’m pleased to say it went as well as could be expected, as has my recovery! I’m feeling stronger, which means I am now able to get to my desktop computer; to communicate with you guys!

However, this is only the first of possibly several surgery’s, which obviously means no posts again; whilst in hospital & at home recovering. Yes I have a laptop & iPad, but my wireless internet range is pants, it won’t reach my bedroom; so I can’t post anything until I am able to get to my desktop computer, sorry!

But, for now, until I go back into hospital & pain allowing, I think I could manage a couple of posts a day; but like I said pain allowing, so don’t hold me to that..lol

Once again, thanks to everybody who sent well wishes, I will let you know when I go back into hospital; that way you will know the reason why there are no posts.

Jules

P.S. If ever days go by without me posting anything; it means I’m either in hospital or in too much pain to get to my desktop….don’t ever think I’ve given up on trying to educate people to the horrors of global animal abuse!!

Groton — The owner of the pit bull that attacked a 74-year-old Groton man and killed the dog he was trying to protect has given up any rights to the animal, police said Friday.

Detective Cmdr. Lt. John W. Varone said the dog has been surrendered. The pit bull is being kept at the animal control facility.

Ralph Conwell took his silky terrier, Lacy, out for a walk at the Calvin Burrows Field Tuesday morning and was returning to his South Road home when a neighbour’s pit bull broke free from its chain and attacked them.

Conwell sustained severe injuries to his arms, while Lacy died of her injuries later that day.

Conwell was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where he is listed Friday morning in good condition.

Varone said the incident is still under investigation and declined to identify the pit bull’s owner.

Cat’s extensive burns raise suspicions of animal abuse

See link below for video -ANDOVER TWP.

When a 3-year-old cat named Pontiac was taken to the Andover Animal Hospital last week, all the signs pointed to abuse.

His whiskers were singed. He had burns that looked like someone had taken a hot fire poker to his body. And, his legs were burnt so badly that the tendon could be seen and he could barely walk. One doctor at the hospital described Pontiac’s smell as an ash tray.

This case of suspected abuse has led the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NJSPCA), a law enforcement office for animal abuseand neglect, to investigate what happened.

“We are in the middle of trying to find out who did it,” NJSPCA Spokesman Matt Stanton said. “(The animal hospital) did not feel that it was an accidental burn from being under an exhaust system in a car.”

Stanton said that the active investigation may lead to a reward for information, which could range from hundreds to thousands of dollars. But, in the meantime, this black and white cat with a cuddly personality is still at the Andover Animal Hospital attached to two IVs and with neon green-yellow bandages on his front legs and back.

Rachel Bezak, an Andover Borough resident, had been caring for this outdoor cat since March because his owner had to move to a location that did not allow cats. A week ago, she became worried since he did not come to her home for food. After searching, she found him curled up in a pile of carpeting in a neighbor’s driveway that had been dumped there during an apartment renovation.

“As I approached him, I found him out of sorts and like he had been in a fire,” she said. “He smelled like burned fur and ashes were literally falling off parts of his body. As happy as he was to see my friendly, familiar face, he was also very reluctant to be touched.”

Bezak took the cat to the Andover Animal Hospital on Newton-Sparta Road and the NJSPCA was called. But, Pontiac’s owner was unable to pay the imminent hospital bills so hospital receptionist Carol O’Neill adopted him.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to him and to the amazing woman who took the responsibility of giving him the medical attention he needs right now,” Bezak said.

O’Neill has since renamed the cat Sparky to “give him a new start.” The new start is slow since he still faces daily treatments that are painful.

“He may lose his left leg,” O’Neill said, as she and others at the hospital tear up in front of Sparky’s cage. “He is such a sweet cat. I don’t know who could do this.”

Sparky undergoes hydrotherapy once a day where his wounds on his back, ear and legs are washed, but the treatment can be so painful that he must be sedated. He also has Manuka honey applied to his wounds, and then is rewrapped every day.

Dr. Shelley Parker, a veterinarian at the hospital, said that in her 11 years of practice she has only seen one other case of abuse like this.

“He’s eating better,” Parker said as O’Neill fed him treats. “Some of the wounds are getting better, but others are not.”

Veterinarian Technician Laura Keck added that “it’s a day by day thing.”

For O’Neill, the difficult part has been the nearly $2,000 in medical bills that Sparky has acquired. The Andover Animal Hospital staff believes that Sparky needs to be taken to a hospital that can specialize in his care, but this means that the medical bills will become far more substantial.

“I’m not giving up now,” O’Neill said about the specialized treatment facilities.

Bezak, who works at Lion Technology in Lafayette, has taken to Facebook to raise money for the cat and has also organized so that people at her work can wear jeans if they donate. Persons wishing to donate can contact the Andover Animal Hospital at andoveranimalhosp@earthlink.net

Despite the long recovery ahead, Sparky is in positive spirits. He loves having his belly rubbed and opens his big green eyes when O’Neill pets him.

“I can’t even imagine what he must have gone through,” Bezak said. “I wish he could tell us so we could know the truth.”
