Owner of hanged terrier calls for tougher sentences

A woman whose dog was hanged with its own lead has called for tougher sentences for people who harm animals.

Horrific death: Losing Buster was like losing one of my children, says owner

Julie Campbell also called for an animal abuse register so offenders can be monitored and prevented from being allowed to own pets.

The 35-year-old Limavady mother-of-three woke to find her two-year-old Jack Russell Buster hanged from a metal pole in her back yard on Tuesday morning.

She revealed yesterday that she will now have to give up her other dog, as she is leaving her home and moving into temporary accommodation in another town which cannot accommodate a dog.

Ms Campbell said that her six-month-old Rottweiler Kaiser was in the back yard when Buster was killed and that the pup has not stopped whimpering since.

There has been an outpouring of public anger at the killers and sympathy for the family.

Ms Campbell said: “I am really heartened by the support.

However, she revealed that her eldest son has not spoken since he learned what had happened.

“My son turned 15 today. He hasn’t spoken since we told him. He was unable to go to school and his birthday is ruined.”

Ms Campbell was yesterday looking at finding alternative accommodation for her family.

We are going to move away from Limavady altogether,” she said, adding that “the impact has been too deep”.

“I was brought up (here) — my mum (and nan) live in the estate and all my friends. It’s terrible that we have to move away. “I think we maybe have to give our other dog away so we are going to go through that as well.”

Ms Campbell hopes that the fate of Buster and Cody, the border collie who died after being set on fire last month, will lead to more legal protection for animals in Northern Ireland.

“People that would do that to a pet should never be allowed to have a pet, and they should be really harshly punished for killing a dog, they should be jailed.

“The law should be changed to make sure of that and to keep a register of who they are.”

$3000 Reward Offered For Apparent Dogfighting Victim

Comments Off on $3000 Reward Offered For Apparent Dogfighting Victim

Meet Gideon. His is the face of dogfighting and his eyes speak volumes about his history; pain, agony and worst of all, hopelessness.

The Newark NJ Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter is offering a $3000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the monsters who dumped this poor dog on the side of the road. The address where he was found is 384 South 6th Street in Newark.

Illegal dogfighting is running rampant through our country and innocent victims like Gideon are paying the ultimate price for this “sport”. Whether it’s bait dogs used to train the fighters or the actual fighters themselves, all of them are hurt in ways no animal should ever have to endure. It’s the complete and total betrayal of the trust animals should be able to have for their guardians. What these animals endure is unspeakable fear, pain and almost always, a brutal death.

Gideon the innocent victim

Gideon was found after being dumped on the side of the road like a bag of trash with massive injuries. He has been transferred to the care of a specialist because of his horrendous wounds, which include a shattered leg that has become infected due to lack of needed medical care. His condition is considered to be grave, and it’s touch and go right now if he’ll even survive.

Gideon’s situation shouts out at the backwards manner in which our country and other countries are handling the crime of dogfighting. These sick monsters exploit a bully breed’s inherent dedication, devotion and overwhelming desire to please their guardians and then bastardize them into fighting machines for profit and ego.

In the media, instead of focusing attention on the human monsters, it seems everywhere the focus is on the breed itself, trying to eliminate all bully breeds from the face of earth. Single stories of any dog remotely resembling a bully breed attacking a human are emblazoned in the media, spewing out the horrors of the overall breed itself and adding fuel to the insanity. The stories about attacks by any other breed of dog are rarely ever mentioned. After all, according to the media, those are all “good dogs”.

Take a long hard look into Gideon’s face. This innocent victim has suffered inconceivable pain and for what? So some gang banger can boast about his big bad fighting dog? So some greedy subhuman can gather his or her friends together for a day of standing around the pit, watching the blood spew, hearing the yelps and screams from the dogs and watching the money fly in bets? So one human can feel bigger and better than another?

At what price does all of this come? It comes in the form of dogs like Gideon who, once used up and unable to fight any more are either brutally killed or dumped like yesterday’s garbage. The trust he put into his guardians was violated in the most despicable ways. He suffered and continues to suffer immense pain and his very life hangs in the balance, while the monsters drove off into the night to do it all again another day.

If you have any information that can lead police to the capture, arrest and conviction of these monsters, please contact the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter at 973-824-7080. Please network Gideon’s story to help bring these sick people to justice. He deserves that from the humans who truly do care.

Donald Trump’s sons in line of fire over African hunting trip

Trumps sons, animal killers

Trumps sons, animal killers

With their bouffant hairstyles and pin- striped suits, the millionaire sons of Donald Trump are a chip off the old block when they appear among New York’s glitterati. But one area where Donald Jnr and Eric Trump don’t see eye-to-eye with their father is in killing animals for fun.

The pair have been forced to defend themselves against accusations of cruelty after photographs emerged on the internet of them standing next to animals shot dead during a hunting holiday last year.

Zimbabwean conservationists and animal-rights groups have hit out at the two millionaires – and even Donald Snr has publicly questioned why his sons enjoyed hunting so much.

The photos appeared on the website of Hunting Legend, a company that specialises in tailor-made big-game hunting across Africa for wealthy clients in Europe, the Middle East and the US.

Trumps sons, animal killersWealthy hunters pay thousands of dollars to shoot big game in Africa. The most prized hunts are the so-called “Big Five” – leopard, lion, rhino, elephant and buffalo. Four of the five are endangered. Killing one of these can often cost $10,000 (£6,300) for licences, which are meant to be strictly rationed. Hunting lodges insist animal populations need to be controlled and that the money that is generated through licences finance conservation efforts and provide employment for locals.

In a series of tweets, 34-year-old Donald Jnr defended his holiday: “I hunt and eat game. I am a hunter, I don’t hide from that.” In a reply to a critic he also denied that the kills were wasteful, writing: “I can assure you it was not wasteful the villagers were so happy for the meat which they don’t often get to eat. Very grateful.”

But many conservation groups are uncomfortable with private hunts, especially in Zimbabwe, where endemic corruption and a poor security situation means poaching and overkill is rampant whilst little money filters down to the poor. One of Zimbabwe’s most eminent conservationists told The Independent yesterday that he believed private hunting should be banned for two years until a genuine count of the country’s animals could be completed.

“The government deliberately overestimates how many animals we have so they can grant more licences and make more money,” Johnny Rodriquez, of the Zimbabwe Conservation Taskforce, said. “If things carry on the way they have recently there won’t be any animals left in the next five or six years.Trumps son, animal killer

“You can’t paint all the private hunters with the same brush but there are a lot of unethical guys out there.”

The brothers are shown in trophy photos standing next to a dead elephant, a crocodile, a kudu, a leopard and a waterbuck. The animals were all shot on a hunting range close to Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls. In one picture, Donald Jnr is holding a knife and a severed elephant tail.

“How can anyone enjoy taking the life of any animal, especially elephants, leopards & croc’s? If these guys wanted to feed the villagers, give them money so they can buy tools to enable them to grow their own food – money to help with clean water pumps etc.”
