Below is the BLM wild horse roundup Pancake Complex, Nevada. I wanted to share a couple of videos showing how the BLM conduct their business.  Of course public viewing isn’t allowed at certain round ups, clearly they don’t want the public to see how the horses are handled & dealt with.

The BLM is supposed to protect, manage, and control wild horses and burros under the authority of the   Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, to ensure that healthy herds thrive on healthy rangelands. The Act declares wild horses and burros to be “living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West.”

My personal view is that the horses & burros are being shipped out to make room for herds of cattle…as they are walking money…burgers, steaks etc. need I say more?

Remember horses are flight animals who panic easily, imagine how scared they must feel having the helicopter hover above their heads so closely. They are chased for miles at full gallop, including pregnant mares & foals; I haven’t seen a video yet where the horses are given water!  Obviously there are many injuries due to the terrain they are forced to gallop over; split, cracked & bruised hooves are inevitable.

Below you can see how the BLM treats foals, forced to gallop on their tiny legs with soft hooves. It’s the foals that are at greater risk of injury, trying to keep up with their mothers; its inevitable they will be separated, which would cause sever distress to the babies. I know some foals have literally run off their hooves down to the bone…I know of one little foal that died, but I’m not sure if it was this little one!

You can clearly see the foal at one point actually walk, he is exhausted, dehydrated & very frightened being alone; his mother, forced to run on without him.

Once rounded up the horses are still at risk of being injured whilst in the holding pen;  Some are seriously injured while trying to jump the holding pen fencing.  The poor babies are kept from their mothers once rounded up so they can’t nurse as often as they would.

There are many more videos; more heart breaking than the above. Videos where the helicopters actually push or knock the horse or burro over with the skid of the chopper, lame horses, horses with injuries or those desperate to break free…I am certain that if the wild horse population has to be controlled; it can be done in a more humane manor!!

The following are just a few of the petitions to sign, to stop the BLM round up, on Change.org http://www.change.org/topics/animals#search/wild horses & burros
