Peñitas Police Believe Poisoning Behind Deaths of Dozen Dogs Over Weekend

May 14th – PEÑITAS — Authorities suspect someone targeted dogs in a Peñitas neighborhood with tainted meat this weekend, leaving 12 animals dead and one apparently recovering, police Chief Roel Bermea said.

GOT A TIP? Anyone with information about this or any other crime is urged to call the Peñitas Police Department at (956) 583-0050.

The Police Department is asking the public to provide any information that might lead to an arrest in connection to the crimes. Bermea said the first call to police about a dog believed to be poisoned and killed came in about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Soon thereafter, four more calls regarding dead pets came in and, eventually, investigating officers found the total dead reached at least a dozen, the chief said. Nine dogs were found dead Sunday and three more were discovered Monday.

“Never,” Bermea said when asked whether he had encountered such a situation before. “This is a first for me. There’s somebody out there doing this.”

In many cases, the Mother’s Day holiday was dampened as families arrived home to find their pets, often thought of as members of the family, dead, he said. It appears the suspected poisonings were concentrated on three streets in a neighborhood near 3 Mile Line and Liberty Boulevard where dogs ran loose, he added.

Officers have found some meat they believe is contaminated and connected to the deaths, but continue to try to find evidence linking them together.

The chief said one citizen who found their dog seriously ill was able to feed it milk and bread after calling a local veterinarian, who advised the animal might have been poisoned.

The dog is recovering, he said. Police are still canvassing the area, but residents don’t seem to know much, the chief said.

If an arrest in the case is made, the suspect can expect to face at least one count of animal cruelty per death, he said.

“We’re asking the public to see if they have any information to let us know,” Bermea said. “We’re actually trying to find out what happened.”

Emily Deschanel Reveals Shocking Dairy Farm Cruelty (Some Distressing Scenes)

Emily Deschanel has the joy of raising her son every day, but mother cows on dairy farms have their calves torn away from them just hours after they’re born. Removing dairy products from your diet helps cows and keeps you and your family healthier. Find out how to cut dairy products out of your diet:https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocacy…

The ad was released in advance of Mother’s Day and criticizes the separation of dairy cows from their young, tail docking and other controversial practices faced by themore than 9 million dairy cows in the U.S.

Large-scale factory farms are facing scrutiny as reports of animal cruelty have emerged over the past few years. Some dairy farms are particularly problematic due to the forced production of milk and unsanitary living conditions, often inside feed lots without grass, the Humane Society reported in 2008.

Animal rights organizations have received some star-studded endorsements recently, including those from Ke$ha and Ryan Gosling.

Man Arrested For Kicking Kittens Across Grocery Store Parking Lot

Comments Off on Man Arrested For Kicking Kittens Across Grocery Store Parking Lot

“At last he has been caught, I remember doing this story back in May. Lets hope he gets what he deserves; if he can do that to a kitten in public, what happens behind closed doors?”

AUSTIN — Austin police have arrested a man for kicking kittens and throwing them across a grocery store parking lot. Mark Sheldon Watson, 29, is charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals. That’s a state jail felony.

According to his arrest affidavit, on May 12, 2012, Watson came to the HEB located at 2110 W. Slaughter Lane with a box of kittens to give away. The box said “Free Kittens for Mother’s Day.” When store managers asked Watson to leave the property, police say he became angry and violent.

Witnesses watched as Watson kicked the box of kittens, then picked one up and threw it hard, 50-60 feet across the parking lot. That kitten did not survive, but its brother, Banjo, did. Banjo was taken to an animal shelter in Travis County.

The affidavit says HEB has surveillance video of the incident showing the kitten hitting the ground, then shaking uncontrollably.

Police say witnesses tried following Watson but he picked up a cinder block and hurled it at them.

Investigators tried tracking down Watson. They released surveillance video of him walking away from the store.

Police were unable to make an arrest until Sept. 10. That’s when a woman came forward and reported that Watson was showing her the TV news reports of the incident on a smartphone and bragging that he was the one responsible.

Austin police arrested Watson and charged him with a state jail felony. If convicted, he faces up to two years in state jail.

His bond has been set at $10,000.

Save The Orangutan – Borneo Orangutan Survival

Comments Off on Save The Orangutan – Borneo Orangutan Survival

“This isn’t a new video but I wanted to show the dedicated work of one women, Lone Droescher-Nieslen from the Orang-utan Survival Foundation”.

“It is Mothers Days on 18th March, why not give your mum a very special present, adopt one of these beautiful little fur balls, I’m sure she will thank you for it

From flight attendant to orangutan mother – The journey begins Substitute mother to orangutans. That is probably the most fitting way to describe a woman who has become known around the world as “The Great
Dane”. Her name is Lone Dröscher-Nielsen. She has dedicated the last 17 years of her life to saving the orangutan from extinction. Founder and Manager of the Nyaru Menteng Sanctuary, she heads the rescue operations to save orangutans that would otherwise not have had a chance of survival; orphaned babies whose mothers have been killed, and adult orangutans that have lost their home to the destruction of the rainforest by Man. They stay at the centre, safe and cared for, until they can be re-released into the wild.

So moved by the traumas experienced by these creatures, she gave up her life in Denmark, and has been living in Borneo ever since. In November 1999, with the help of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS) she opened her own rehabilitation and rescue centre for orangutans in Nyaru Menteng. For ten years, Lone has fought for the survival of the orangutans. It is an uphill battle, but Lone refuses to give up. She has made a promise to them and she will never stop fighting to save them.

You can help by adopting an orangutan and becoming part of the largest primate rescue operation in the world today. When adopting an orangutan your money will go to the care, medicine and eventual release of all the orangutans in our care. As an adoptive parent you will receive regular updates about your orangutan, follow their progress in forest school and get to know the character of one of these most special “people of the rainforest.” You will be able to follow their journey from a scared, traumatised orphan into a happy orangutan with the skills needed to survive in the wild.

“This too is an old video but it it very informative. The dates of the video’s are irrelevant, BOS still needs your help for all the orphaned orangutans. This is a man-made disaster, we demolished their natural home & habitat; so it is up to us to ensure we provide them with a natural alternative!”

October 2006

By some estimates, Borneo’s vast forests are being cleared faster than the Amazon. Unless something is done now, Orang-utans could be extinct in 20 years.

The practice of bulldozing everything to make way for palm oil plantations has left Orang-utans without their customary habitat. “Palm oil is totally destructive. They’re cutting down every single tree”, complains Lone Droescher-Nieslen from the Orang-utan Survival Foundation. When the forests disappear, Orang-utans cling to any stump in the cleared land, unable to understand their homes are gone. It’s left to charities to rescue the apes before the plantation workers kill them. Lone hopes she can rehabilitate the Orang-utans back into the wild. But if the rate of de-forestation continues, there may soon be no forests to release them into.
