The pain and suffering inflicted on the horses is immense. The fact that this is a “public event” witnessed by all, including children is very harmful to all.
They call it a feast. In the state of Yucatan, Mexico there is a “rodeo” type event called “Torneo de Lazo” where bulls ram horses and eviscerate them. THIS CAUSES A VERY HIGH LEVEL OF PAIN TO THE HORSES.
These horses usually collapse and while still alive continue to get trampled by bulls and other horses during the length of this violent and cruel event where horsemen try to lasso the running, charging bulls (the bulls are specifically bred and trained to ram horses).
Although it is against the law, this is only in name. Mexico’s federal government as well as the local authorities do nothing to stop this. This event takes place state wide all year round.
One bull was well known for killing horses, but the bull was eventually strangled to death by cowboys sick of him defeating their horses.

“Can you imagine the horses terror & pain if gored; trying to escape the bull, with their stomach contents pouring out! If they make it out the ring, I’ve heard that some owners may try to put the horses organs back inside (if not that bad) & stitch it up so it can go another round! Some owners may figure the horse is going to die, so might as well get the most out of it until it collapses. If a gored horse can’t be patched up; it gets a bullet! These owners can not possibly love or care for their horses or their safety, if they did they wouldn’t put them in harms way in the first place!”
“Don’t forget the poor bulls, this is all they know, they don’t distinguish between the horse & the rider; the bulls are roped & provoked, so of course they charge at the horse! But the bulls also suffer injuries, they can break off part of a horn or break legs trying to free themselves from the ropes. One can not blame the bulls for goring horses, those to blame are the ones riding the horses, antagonising the bulls; along with those allowing this despicable event to happen in the first place!”

The video below shows what the bulls are capable of!! I find it astounding that when a horse is gored the crowd start screaming in shock etc! Erm….excuse me, but they paid to see this sickening event!!!

“People wonder why children abuse animals; well if they are allowed to see animals being ridiculed, abused & tortured, then they will probably grow up to have little or no respect for animals either!
“I feel I must explain the following video, for those who do not wish to view it; because you need to know how horrific this gruesome, so called form of entertainment is; to help put an end to it!
“A stunning grey horse is gored by the bull on its hind flank; it looks to me like its external abdominal oblique muscles start to spill out almost at once! Unfortunately the horse collapses as it is being taken out of the ring…sadly there is no hope for this stunning sentient being. So it is dragged through the gates; children watch as someone casually takes a gun out & points it at the horses head, it takes a couple of bullets to end the horses suffering! Then, in the final & most undignified act, the once beautiful grey is pulled through the mud & away from the gates, by other horses; as if it was some inanimate object! It looks like the bull pays with his life also, as at the end of the video it shows the ropes etc. possibly caused him to break his lower leg!

After a video showing violent killing of horses in a Russian slaughterhouse was posted to YouTube last month, an online petitionhas been launched to ask for stopping the cruelty.

The video, posted on February 26, bears the title “Russian Race Horses Brutally Slaughtered for Sausage” and comes with the warning of having very graphic content. The video description reads: “The world needs to see the extreme brutality horses are suffering in Russia.” Horses in the video are shown hammered on their heads repeatedly with sledgehammers inside the slaughterhouse as they drag themselves about the place.
“This is the most inhuman act I have ever witnessed,” reads the petition letter on Change.org, addressed to the Delegation of the European Union to Russia. “Every horse slaughterhouse I’ve seen has been violently abusive and this is beyond comprehension.”
The petition has received close to 9800 signatures to date and aims at getting over 10, 000 more to reach its goal of 20, 000 signatures in support of the cause.Earlier this month, Seattle Pi published a story about animal rights advocates’ condemnation of the recent legislature in Oklahoma that would allow the slaughter of horses for human consumption.
As noted by the Activist Post, producing horse meat has legally remained banned inthe US since 2007, though early this month it was reported thatUSDA was set to allow horse slaughter in the US, starting with a New Mexico horse slaughterhouse in the next few months.
“There isn’t much known about the video location, or the date the it was taken, only that it was taken somewhere in a Russia. When long time animal advocate, Julie Jo saw the video, she immediately decided to make a petition; due to the horrific & brutal content. Where ever this slaughter-house is in Russia, something has to be done & fast…hence the petition & FB Event. Horses have always been a part of my life, so I knew it wouldn’t be easy to watch the video…it took me several attempts, to actually look at the screen, the audio was bad enough. “The quality of the video isn’t very good (which I’m thankful for) this could suggest, the video may have been taken several years ago; it is also very noisy. One can see several horses, in a concrete building, some stood around waiting to be slaughtered, others already down & bleeding out. Other horses not yet unconscious or down, are trying to get back up, yet slipping in all directions; due to the blood soaked floor of their fellow equines. Men wait with sledgehammers or axes (turned to use the wooden part of the head) for the next horses to be walked in. There are horses waiting near what looks like a gated area, who are in full view of what is happening! There appears to be no order or process to the system, nobody is wearing aprons, gloves or the usual attire associated with a legal slaughter-house; this could mean this is not a legitimate slaughter-plant.”
“The bewildered & frightened horses, are each lead to one of the heartless bastards, who with little thought or aim, uses brute force to smash the sledgehammer or axe into the horse’s head. There is no skilled technique, nor restraints used, to hold the horse’s head still. Horses being flight animals, constantly shift position, trying to escape the blow’s of the hammer. One of the horses with a rope around its neck, is wrapped around a post & pulled tight, the horse can be heard gasping as the rope around his neck gets tighter, he can’t move as freely now, so another aim is taken. Few go down with the first poorly aimed blow, which results in the dazed & confused horses, trying to take flight again. They try in vain to stand, only to be repeatedly bludgeoned about the head, until they go down. The second they are down, their throats are slit; meaning they could still be fully conscious, when bled out!”

There is a video which has gone viral across the world of horses being slammed in the head with hammers. It comes from a film taken at a horse slaughterhouse in Russia. People who know and love horses are especially aware of what sensitive, social and intelligent creatures they are, which makes the appalling actions shown in this clip all the more reprehensible.
We are getting in touch with our contacts in Russia to make them aware of the practices reported to be taking place in slaughterhouses there and ask for improvements.
We would strongly encourage you to also contact an animal welfare society which is based in Russia and approved by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).

Meet Lolita: an intelligent and sensitive orca, confined to the smallest orcatank in North America.
This life means daily misery for Lolita, but big bucks for the Miami Seaquarium. And, even though her shameful living conditions clearly violate the Animal Welfare Act, the U.S. Department of Agriculture(USDA) continues to hand out AWA licenses to the Seaquarium.
The Animal Legal Defense Fundis outraged and petitioning the USDA to give Lolita the justice she so rightly deserves.
Lolita was one of seven orcas kidnapped in the notorious 1970 Penn Cove round up in Puget Sound, Washington. In this horrific event, when four orcas (three calves) drowned in the nets, their bellies were slit in an attempt by human captors to sink the bodies and perhaps to hide this shameful waste of life. However, the bodies of the dead orcas washed ashore and lead to righteous public outrage. You can hear the cries of Lolita and her family in the devastating video footage of her family’s capture.

In the wild, orcas spend their entire lives with their mothers and family bonds last a lifetime. In 1996, twenty-six years after her capture, Lolita was played a recording of her family’s calls. Heartbreakingly, Lolita returned the distinct dialect of her family’s calls, in clear recognition of familiar voices. And at more than 80 years old, Lolita’s mother still thrives in a seaside sanctuary in their home waters, just waiting for Lolita to come home.
Performers literally ride on Lolita’s back for profit.
Instead, because she brings in profit, Lolita swims tiny circles in a shallow and barren cement tank that doesn’t meet the minimum requirements of the Animal Welfare Act. Constantly exposed to the burning Miami sun and tropical storms, Lolita has been without any orca companion for three decades.
In the beginning, Lolita had the company of Hugo, a male orca who shared her tank from 1971 until 1980. They mated, but in her stressful environment Lolita suffered unsuccessful pregnancies. In 1980, in what many believe was a desperate attempt to break free from his miserable prison, or commit suicide, Hugo continuously rammed his head into the side of the tank and died of a brain aneurysm Since Hugo’s sudden death in 1980, which left Lolita sulking at the bottom of her tank in a state “not unlike bereavement,” Lolita has not had a killer whale companion.
As a reward for her own extraordinary will to live, Lolita has been exploited for 42 years. She was abducted from her family and enslaved purely for the profit of the “amusement” park. Despite shameful and inhumane living conditions, Lolita endures – and her survivor spirit has haunted the hearts of people around the world. But given the low quality of her life at Seaquarium, it is likely she will die decades before her time, unless we act now, as we did for Keiko (“Willy”). It is time for us to set Lolita free.
This is why ALDF is doing everything it can to help return Lolita to her family. In addition to a petition to stop the USDA’s unmerited renewal of the Seaquarium’s AWA license, ALDF (along with PETA) is suing theNational Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to end the exclusion of Lolita from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of the Pacific Northwest’s Southern Resident orcas.
ALDF is asking the courts to intervene where federal agencies – charged with protecting Lolita – have repeatedly failed her. “The horror of Lolita’s confinement is almost inconceivable” says Jenni James, litigation fellow at ALDF. “It is time for the government to grant her the legal protections she has been denied for decades.”
What You Can Do to Help
Do not buy a ticket to any amusement park with captive orcas, especially the Miami Seaquarium.
Educate yourself, educate your friends, and spread the word.
Arrange a screening of Lolita: Slave to Entertainment at your school, community center, library, or local community television station.
Do not support companies like Princess Cruises (a division of Carnival Cruises) that endorse animal cruelty at the Seaquarium.
Contact the USDA and ask them to follow the law provided in the Animal Welfare Act.
