The proposed sale of a figurine of “Puppy Doe,” a young pit bull mix who Massachusetts authorities say was tortured by a man later found in a New Britain hotel room isdrawing the ire of animal welfare advocates.

The Puppy Doe case drew national media attention after theseverely injured dog was found in Quincy, Mass. and had to be put to sleep due to the torturethat was inflicted on the young female dog named Kiya by one of her former owners. Radoslaw Czerkawski, 32, of Quincy, Mass, pleaded not guilty in December to 12 counts of animal cruelty, and one count of misleading a police investigation in the case after he was found in a New Britain hotel room in October.
Czerkawskiis also wanted for larcenies involving a New Bedford, Mass church. He is currently being held without bail as a flight risk, according to the Norfolk State’s Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts which is prosecuting the Puppy Doe case.
Herobuilders, an Oxford, Connecticut-based action figure company owned by Emil Vicale, announced Sunday they would be producing a figurine of the dog estimated to be one to two years old at the time of her death with 10 percent of the proceeds going to animal welfare groups. “I heard about the story and thought it would be a good thing,” Vicale said Monday. “I wanted to make a donation in Puppy Doe’s name.”
But animal welfare advocates who have been raising money in the dog’s name and staging peaceful protests outside the Norfolk courthouse whenCzerkawskiappears are appalled at the idea, said Deanna Terminiello of Leominster, Mass. “I was shocked,” Terminiello said when she saw Facebook posts promoting the product. “To see that made me sick that someone is trying to make a profit off of a dog that was tortured.”Several other animal welfare advocates also posted similar comments on Terminiello’s Facebook page, “The Truth About The Puppy Doe Vigil,” which has close to 300 members.
The figurines which will go into production this week can be purchased for $29.95. Vicale, who will only produce 2,000 of the resin statues, will donate 10 percent of the profits between the Animal Rescue League of Boston, which is involved in the Puppy Doe case, and the national ASPCA.
Vicale said he expects to make about $10 per figurine after he donates $3 per figurine to the two animal welfare groups. “We are not a charitable organization but we are trying to do something good,” Vicale said. A spokesperson for the Animal Rescue League of Boston said they had not been notified by Homebuilders of the potential donation but confirmed they had received other donations in the name of Puppy Doe. “If someone wants to give to the Animal Rescue League of Boston we recommend that they give directly to our organization,” said Ami Bowers, director of marketing for the group.“They could be giving us the proceeds but at this point we don’t know because we haven’t heard from them.”
A spokesperson for the Connecticut state Humane Society of the United States which offers rewards in animal abuse cases and help in prosecuting animal cruelty cases applauded the sale of the figurines. “It does seem like a well intentioned effort to raise awareness and help fund groups that support animal welfare,” said Ami Hornish, the director of the Connecticut chapter of the HSUS.
But Terminiello, who along with others helped raise $2,500 to donate to the Quincy animal shelter after the dog’s death and who attended a protest in December at the courthouse called the sale of the figurines “sickening.” “This is not about fame, it’s not about fortune,” she said. “Anyone who would profit off this dog is unimaginable.” David Traub, a spokesperson for the Norfolk State’s Attorney’s Office said Czerkawskiis due back in court Feb. 11.

The Fire Department of New York had a crowd of spectators holding their breath as they watched one fireman patiently gain the trust of a scared dog trapped on a window ledge.

Witnesses said the dog appeared to have escaped out of a second-story window, but was unable to climb back in because of the window guard. New York City law states that apartments where children live must have a window guard.
“He must have wiggled through and couldn’t figure out how to get back in,” said James Morgan, the witness who caught the dramatic rescue on video.
Passers-by noticed the dog, teetering on the six-inch ledge, and began to gather around. The FDNY was called in and cleared the area under the window to pull right up under it.
The dog lost his footing several times as apprehensive onlookers watched, helplessly.
“It was pretty nerve-racking,” Morgan said.
A fire-fighter ascended toward the dog in a cherry picker, but descended to gather a leash, some water and treats. He offered water to the dog, and slowly gained its trust enough to pet it.
He clipped a leash to the dog, and after steadying himself in position, scooped the dog into the bucket lift.
The crowd erupted into relieved cheers for the heroic fire team.
Morgan said the dog was immediately brought inside, but it is unknown if the owner was in the building.
FDNY Rescues trapped pup on window ledge in Brooklyn

A dog that became trapped on a window ledge in Brooklyn was rescued by a fire-fighter who won the pup’s trust with treats and brought him down in a bucket truck.
“When that dog went to lay down, you could tell by his body language he has already been beaten or abused at some point in his poor life; probably a street dog!. I hope someone had the heart to go after the dog & save it. I’m so glad this bxxxxxd got expelled, but he really should be charged with animal abuse; anyone else found doing it would be charged! Imagine, if he can do this to a dog in public, what is he capable of doing behind closed doors??”
Argentinian soccer playerJose Jimenezhas been thrown off his team after grabbing a dog by the neck and launching it into a fence.
The dog wandered onto the pitch and submissivelylay down on the grass. He got back up and trotted around.

Jimenez, who had been speaking with a referee, noticed the dog and rushed over to it. He grabbed the dog around the throat, and forcefully flung it at thechain link fence. The dog bounced off, and miraculously, got up and trotted away.
Jimenez was initially given a red card for his despicable action, which got him sent off and expelled for three games.
The incident was captured on video and incited worldwide outrage. After consideration, the Argentine club permanently expelled Jimenez.
“The Executive Committee of CS Bella Vista [have decided that], by violently throwing a dog that had entered the field of play while the game was in progress, our club cannot protect the human and sporting image of Jose Antonio Jimenez, which has been damaged by his incomprehensible attitude,” a club statement read. “In accordance with the Committee’s Book of Proceedings, we have cancelled his registration from our roster.”
Though Jimenez may find himself on another team in the future, he will do it without fans.
“WTF…How on earth can this girl not face charges of animal cruelty? At 14 years old she knew what she was doing, therefore should face the consequences. If nothing is done, expect to here more animal abuse cases, involving this girl!!”
Police in Ypsilanti, Mich., have opened an investigation into a possible case of animal cruelty following a woman’s report that her dog was killed on Sunday night, reported Monday’s Ann Arbor.com.
Few details have been released about the incident, but enough is known that it appears that family tensions are likely to be running high as the animal cruelty allegations are against the dog owner’s own granddaughter.
The dog, who is referred to as a puppy in the police report, was allegedly kicked to death by the 14-year-old granddaughter of the woman who owned the pup.
According to the report, the girl may not face charges. The police are, however, speaking to the family about what happened.
DUNKLIN/PEMISCOT COUNTIES, MO (KAIT) – Kittens only days old have a local sanitation employee to thank after he saved their lives when he found them in the garbage.
A sanitation employee with Branum’s Disposal Service based in Kennett was making his usual route in Hornersville.
He said he heard kittens crying in a dumpster located between the community building and the city park and rescued them.
The man took the kittens to Dr. Edmund Landry’s office where they called the Pemiscot Animal Welfare Society, since the Kennett Humane Department was closed to cats at the time.
One of the kittens has bite wounds and appears to be paralyzed.
PAWS is asking for anyone with information on the kittens found in the dumpster to contact them at 573-359-0113 or 573-359-5802.
WTF…I can’t believe the blatant way this sicko just puts his dog in the drain; it’s like he is just throwing out the trash. Please if anyone knows who this is or even has an idea, please contact local authorities. This bastard has to be found & justice prevailed. God only knows how that dog may have suffered before this final act of cruelty. I can’t believe his cry’s were heard, he was rescued, but then ran off; I just pray he didn’t go back to his masters house!! Organization for animal rights and protection from Krusevac “ORPAK” sent an appeal to all citizens of Krusevac to help them find the person who threw a dog in the sewer in this town in central Serbia.
Man who without reason, while nobody was watching, threw a dog in an open sewer calmly went on his way. However, thanks to security cameras, it may be possible to determine who is the person in the video.
The organization ”ORPAK” is asking everyone to report the person if they recognize himvia phone number +381(63)8822412 or to immediately call the police.
This is not pleasant to watch, but if people don’t, this guy will never be caught unless he brags about it & someone blows the whistle on him.
Sick Bastard Drops Dog Down Drain – Please help find him
Published on 4 May 2013Animal protection services have been contacted by worried citizens that they hear barking and squealing from the sewer. The team dispatched managed to rescue a young dog which immediately ran to the nearby park and tried to clean itself by rolling in grass.
It ran away from rescuers after that. Citizens are asked to help in the investigation by contacting animal protection society or police. The event horrified local population and media.
A 29-year-old Leighton schizophrenic, who claimed that his pet rats talked to him, has been found guilty of animal cruelty after one was found with four shattered legs.
RSPCA inspectors called at Adam Cheeseborough’s Hockliffe Road flat after reports of a rodent infestation. They found, Luton Magistrates Court heard on Thursday, up to 80 rats running loose through every room and there was an overpowering smell of urine and faeces.
Some were crammed in a filthy cage which had no food. A drowned rat lay on a windowsill, another was found with half a tail and one rat was discovered suffering from a huge cancerous growth.

But worst of all was a rat whose four limbs were broken and turned the wrong way around, with the bone jutting through its wounds. It was so traumatised that it was unable to squeak and could only move by crawling on his bare bones.
He later had to be put to sleep by a vet.
Cheeseborough appeared in court charged with one offence of causing unnecessary suffering to a rat by failing to provide veterinary care and two charges of failing to meet the welfare needs of two other rats. He denied all three charges which had been brought by the RSPCA.
he animal’s owner told inspectors that the rat had jumped out of a third-floor window. He wasn’t found until the next day and Cheeseborough refused to take it to the vets because he feared the pet would be put down.
As the inspectors collected the flat’s rats they found one on Cheeseborough’s bed suffering with a lump and another behind a piece of furniture with half its tail missing and the stump looking red and swollen. It was later operated on but suffered a heart attack and died. None of the animals had previously received veterinary treatment.
Cheeseborough told the court that he had kept rats for up to 15 years, slept and bathed with them and even took them out with him to the shops.
“I had more than 70 rats and I loved them all. I kept the females in one cage and the males in another and I’d let out one cage at a time to allow them to run around.
“Somehow, one night, one of the male rats got out through the window and I found it the next morning in the grass. I thought that it was waiting for me.
“I picked him up and didn’t think anything was wrong with him. When I got back to the flat I realised that he couldn’t walk but I was nurturing him back to health. If he’d been in pain or squeaking I would have taken him to the vets.
“When the RSPCA came to take my rats I cried all day and night.”
Referring to the rat with the lump he said: “I can communicate with them and she told me that she didn’t like being left in a cage and she didn’t want to go to the vets. I told the RSPCA inspector who came to take them away. He felt it and said I could keep her and that there was nothing wrong with her.”
Talking about the rat with half a tail Cheeseborough said: “I had so many rats. One had a bad tail. I don’t know what happened. I saw that it was sore so I kept it clean and treated it myself. He seemed quite happy. I didn’t think there was anything that a vet could do for it.”
The case was adjourned until June 18 for sentencing.
DAYTON — One man faces seven counts ofanimal crueltyfor the rancid conditions he was keeping his pit bull and her six puppies.
Daytonpolice officers were dispatched to the home of Michael Alan Cornett on a complaint that a door was left open at the residence, according to the police report.
Officers entered the home in the 400 block of Santa Cruz and started examining the conditions of the residence.
In the garage police found a black and white pit bull before entering the home to find the kitchen and the majority of the house filled with dogfeces and garbage, according to the report.
The report also stated “it smelled like ammonia or animal urine and dog feces inside the home.”
In one of the bedrooms inside of the home police uncovered a cage containing six puppies.
“The cage had a urine soaked sheet at the bottom of it,” according to the report. “The puppies all were howling and jumping up on the side of the cage. There was no bowl of water and no food inside of the cage for the puppies.”
Animal control responded to the residence and Cornett said he would willingly give up the mother and her six puppies but wanted to keep a black and white pit bull that officers had seen in the garage. “WTF…surely this cold hearted shit, shouldn’t be allowed to own animals ever again…I just don’t get this legal system???”
Cornett received two citations for failure to license his dogs from animal control. The mother dog’s ribs and hip bones were protruding and she appeared malnourished. The puppies suffered from dehydration, said police.
When animal services picked him up, they had no idea what was wrong with the dog. They just knew he needed help and fast.
Will The Great Dane
The gentle giant had bloated and gone into torsion. If it wasn’t for SWGDR and John Mullins, the volunteer who picked him up, the dog wouldn’t be alive today.
“In the middle of the night our volunteer went over to animal services to pick him up,” said Vikki Eagan president of SWGDR. “The dog’s stomach had descended and he was just not doing well.”
Once under the care of SWGDR, veterinarian Dr. Beth Brown from West Coast Veterinary Center, examined him and took some x-rays. She prepared the dog for surgery.
“When Dr. Brown opened him up, she saw the bloat and that the stomach had twisted,” said Eagan. “The splint had also burst and it was evident this poor dog had been sick for days.”
The surgery took over three hours. One hour alone was dedicated to emptying dog’s stomach content.
According to Dr, Brown, when the dog was on the table he picked up his head and looked at her with the softest eyes she had ever seen. He showed so much will to live and because of that, his name is now Will.
“Dr. Brown said she was going to do whatever it took to save him,” said Eagan.
Will spent one week in intensive car. At first he couldn’t get up or walk, but with the help of the volunteers and his now foster mom and vet tech Christina Pelletier, Will is doing much better.
“Will came in weighing around 98 pounds,” said Pelletier “A Dane of his stature should weight 135-140 lbs.”
Will has a long road to recovery, but Pelletier and SWGDR are doing what they can to help him. His medical costs are now in the thousands and his care is not over yet.
Will requires a specialty diet of canned food, enzymes, vitamins and freeze dried meat. Val Clows of Holistic for Pets has donated these items. She will also supply Will with Rx dry diet, when he is ready to transition to eating that type of food.
“Will is so determined to live,” said Eagan. “As long as he keeps fighting, we are going to be right there with him.”
