Pregnant dog burned alive, gets help from local animal rescue group

"OMG...this is beyond sickening, I can't see the dog walking willingly into fire, so she was either burnt or doused in some type of chemical; on purpose. I pray they catch the scum that did this & will keep her in my prayers, in the hopes that all her pups make it & she finds a forever loving home!"

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A pregnant dog that was severely burned is doing much better after being taken in by a local animal rescue group.

“Someone did something unkind to this very sweet dog,” says Donna Casamento with Big Dog Ranch Rescue.

Pregnant dog burnt is carrying puppies

It’s something so unkind, it’s horrific to view.  Nina, a terrier mix, has second to third degree burns on her chest, all the way down to her legs.

“It’s been a very very sad situation. We weren’t sure when we first got her how the burns happened,” said Casamento.

But Donna thinks Nina’s burns may have been intentional. And what makes this worse, she’s pregnant.

“Whether she walked into a fire on the ground, like a fire pit or was pushed into a fire pit. Dogs don’t walk into those kind of situations,” she said.”

Now the race is on to save the unborn dogs while Nina recovers. “It’s somewhat difficult for us to tell exactly if the puppies are still alive yet,” Casamento said.

Nina was brought up yesterday from Miami-Dade rescue.  Veterinarians here are taking care of her around the clock. “Every couple of hours, she’s getting this applied to her and then several baths throughout the day,” said Donna. “We’re giving her pain medication about every three or four hours at this point.”

The hope is eventually to find her and her babies, a loving home. “In spite what she’s been through, all she wants to do is sit with her head in our lap and get love. This is a great dog,” she said.

Vets say once Nina becomes comfortable, they’ll be able to perform an ultrasound to see if the puppies are alive. They’re asking the community to help with donations for Nina’s care. Find out how you can help at their website, http://www.bdrr.org/ .

Miami-Dade animal rescue is investigating the case.

A Memphis man accused of putting his puppy, Daisy, into a running dishwasher has pleaded guilty of felony aggravated animal cruelty.

27-year-old Marcus Curry of Memphis has been sentenced to 16 months in prison. Aggravated animal cruelty can mean six-year prison sentence.

Marcus Curry of Memphis

Contractors doing work at the Eden Watersedge Apartments saw a German Shepherd puppy on an apartment porch. The puppy didn’t have water so one contractor told the Memphis man he needed to take better care of the puppy, reported WREG News.

The contractor said Marcus then took the puppy inside and about an hour later he witnessed Curry carry a duffle bag outside and put the bag in the dumpster.

One of the contractors, Henry Jones, who had given the puppy water earlier told WREG News, “I was thinking to myself ‘That must be the dog. I unzipped the bag and saw the dog and it was wet.” The puppy was dead. Authorities were notified. Curry was arrested.

According to a police affidavit, at one point, Curry told police officers he didn’t ever put the puppy into the dishwasher but that he did put the dead puppy into a bag and throw it into the dumpster.

Fox News reported that a witness told police that Curry admitted putting the dog in the dishwasher and saying he “left it in there too long.” The Memphis man eventually told police he did put the puppy in the dishwasher but only to keep it from going to the bathroom on the floor, reported WREG.

However, witnesses told the Memphis police that they saw him put the puppy in his dishwasher, turn the dishwasher on, and leave the dishwasher running.

A petition with 24,164 signatures on causes.com asked prosecutors toProsecute and Jail- Marcus Curry over the killing of his German Shepherd puppy. An additional petition with 7084 signatures on causes.com asked the Attorney General to “Give Marcus Curry maximum sentence for brutally killing Puppy!

Curry was also charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty by the grand jury according to the Shelby County District Attorney. The misdemeanor charges alleged Curry left the same puppy tied to the porch last June for several days with no noticeable food or water. Police said Marcus was also up on fraud charges for allegedly using his great aunt’s credit card without her authorization in the amount of $600.

Despite pleading guilty to the charge, in August of last year Marcus wrote a public testimony where he claims he is innocent:

“Imma real peaceful guy, that only wont to be a good farther, friend, brotha, sister, lover, husband, im not a dam D*M DOG KILLA. a lot of people lied on me, wat if it was da other way around and it happen to each and ever last one of yall. Everybody dat really knw me, knws wat kind of person I am. All my life in Memphis just been h*ll yall, cant trust a soul, not even yo own gurl smmh. So fb this is my testimony, and no matter wat happen I just wont yall to knw the truth, Memphis will make you look like a convict just to get paid, turn your good life into stress and pain. I tried my best and da lord knw I did, but sum reasons im allways around devils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

The public, however, is furious with the Memphis man.

The incidents allegedly occurred between June 18-26 at Curry’s apartment in the 2800 block of Meadowlake Drive.

He was indicted in October, but was not arrested until earlier this year when he was found at a motel. Shelby County District Attorney, Amy Weirich said the Memphis man pleaded guilty to felony charges of aggravated animal cruelty for killing his puppy by putting it in the dishwasher, The Jackson Sun reported.

Graphic Image: Puppy With Ears Cut Off Expected To Recover

Comments Off on Graphic Image: Puppy With Ears Cut Off Expected To Recover

UPDATE:  December 28, OKLAHOMA CITY – It’s a happy ending for a little puppy who was the victim of horrific animal abuse.

We first told you about “Sweet Baby Jones”, the pit bull puppy a few weeks ago. He was found with his ears cut off, left out in the freezing cold when he was just four weeks old.

Puppy recovering well after his ears were cut off & left abandoned

The Bella Foundation and Neel Veterinary Hospital nursed him back to health.

Now, Jones will be adopted by a family from Colorado who works with the organization Stopping BSL, a group that works to stop discrimination against pit bulls.

Members of The Bella Foundation are sad to see him go, but can’t think of a better family to place him with.

“His foster mom took such great care of him. He is doing so well on potty training, he plays well with other dogs.” Jessica McLaughlin said. “He’s going to forget about everything that happened to him before this and he’s going to live a wonderful life.”

Jones has had all of his shots, been neutered and finally had the stitches removed from his ears.

The Bella Foundation brought Jones to their adoption event on Saturday for one last public appearance before he goes home with his new family.

Jones will have two siblings, a chihuahua and another pit bull. The family says Jones will fit right in.

November 29 OKLAHOMA CITY – Staff at The Bella Foundation are trying to find the person responsible for cutting the ears off a 4-week-old pit bull puppy.

Puppy found in freezing cold with his ears cut off!!

The puppy was found wandering around near 23rd Street and I-44.

“He had blood covering from his ears all the way down his neck and even onto his legs. And it was frozen to his fur and was also just stuck to him.” Eric McCune, executive director of Bella, said. “We’re still trying to get it off now because he’s so little, you know, it hurts. And so we’ll probably have to wait a few more days and a few more baths to get the rest of it off of him.”

Today, he is doing better. Tevin Garner with The Bella Foundation is nursing him back to health and giving him a good dose of snuggles.

“It just absolutely breaks my heart to know what he was going through when it happened, to know that he was awake, and you know, just an innocent little puppy being abused like that.” She said.

Recovering well after being found abandoned & his ears cut off

“This little guy, his ears were done with no anaesthetic, no pain killer, probably with a pair of scissors. And then set down and left to heal on his own.” McCune said.

They nicknamed the puppy “Sweet Baby Jones.” Over the next few weeks, the pup will stay on painkillers and antibiotics. Then the vet will reshape and fix what is left of his ears.

Jones is just a small part of an even bigger problem though; they are worried there could be more puppies like him out there.

“I personally have never seen a litter of one puppy, especially pit bull puppies.” McCune said. “Usually there are 7 or 8, sometimes more. And so he probably has brothers and sisters that are in this same situation.”

Now they’re working to save other puppies from suffering the same abuse as Jones.

“All he wants to do is be with people and cuddle despite what other people have done to him.” Garner said.

As soon as Jones is well enough, he will be put up for adoption.

The Bella Foundation believes his litter mates are somewhere in the area of N.W. 23rd Street and I-44 and hope to find them soon.

If you have any information on who did this to Jones or where those other puppies are, call The Bella Foundation at 1-866-318-7387. Tips are completely anonymous.

Georgia Man Arested For Beheading And Stabbing Puppies

Comments Off on Georgia Man Arested For Beheading And Stabbing Puppies

“OMG…this POS must be mentally impaired, as no sane person would do such despicable things to innocent puppies! His name & picture need to be on any Animal Abuse Registers & on every shelter wall. I hope he rots in jail, where hopefully another inmate might show him more things one can do with a pair of scissors 🙂  (sorry some posts are outdated but I feel some stories need to be told; especially if it may help others by sharing an image of the offending party) My apologise to anyone who sent me stories to be posted & they haven’t been done yet, I’m splitting my time between so many different things, I’m meeting myself coming backwards!!”

By Eric W. Dolan – Tuesday, August 13, (No updates seen as yet)

A man in Cobb County, Georgia has been arrested for allegedly mutilating two puppies his neighbors gave him to watch.

Robert Williams Davis

Robert Williams Davis, 38, was arrested just before midnight on Saturday after police officers found the dogsdead bodies in a wooded area behind his house.

A 14-year-old neighbour of Davis had given him and his girlfriend the two pit bull puppies. A pit bull rescue group was going to pick the dogs up within a few days. But the neighbour, Tyler Tedesco, learned that Davis had killed the two puppies. He called 911.

“I saw that, I dropped what I was doing and just walked away. I couldn’t bear to see that because I raised those dogs,” Tedesco told WSBTV.

Davis allegedly killed both puppies with a pair of scissors. Police said one dog was beheaded, while the other was stabbed in the throat. It is unclear why Davis killed the puppies.

“We all ran back to the house and cried. As soon as we saw it, it was something nobody wants to go through or see. And it’s really hard for all of us to know that somebody could even do that to a poor innocent animal,” Tedesco said.

Davis was charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and three counts of tampering with evidence. He is being held on $250,000 bond.

Mother and her son arrested after posting photo of puppy in a plastic bag

Comments Off on Mother and her son arrested after posting photo of puppy in a plastic bag

“WTF…who in their right mind would put a puppy into a freezer bag, to take a photo? My Chihuahua is smaller than the pup pictured; but I don’t feel the need to confine him in plastic bags to take a photo. I find this extremely alarming & totally wrong!  Thank God this little pup is now in the care of another family member; lets hope they prefer to take a a natural picture, in the moment…not a bag!”

A Bernalillo County, N.M., woman and her son were arrested and booked into jail on a charge of felonyanimal cruelty after posting a troubling photo of a puppy, inside of a bag, online, reported Sunday’sKRQE News.

Mary Snell and James Engel found themselves in hot water after posting the disturbing image to Facebook.

The photo of a tiny, white pup, inside of a freezer bag, caught the eye of a good Samaritan, who voiced their concerns to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

Who thinks this is funny???

Deputies took those concerns seriously and followed up – tracking down the puppy’s owners at an Albuquerque apartment complex on Saturday night.

Snell acknowledged that putting the pup inside of the bag was wrong, but explained her actions by claiming that there was no other way to keep the puppy still for a photo; the pair wanted to show how small the puppy was.

The pup, named “Baby,” was determined to be unharmed by the incident; the pup is now being cared for by another family member.

In February a puppy’s life was saved when an Indiana garbage man noticed one of the bags he was tossing into the truck move.

Garby was thrown out with the garbage!

Neighbours Say Jackson County Woman Beat Puppy To Death

Comments Off on Neighbours Say Jackson County Woman Beat Puppy To Death

“I know I would like to throw this bxxxh around, see how she likes it…shocking, prison is the only place for this POS”

Police said an intoxicated woman from Ravenswood beat her puppy to death. She’s now been charged with felony animal cruelty.

Marlyn Carte, 50, was arrested Thursday night at her apartment on Joe Short Drive.

“I’ve seen a lot of abuse cases. I have never, ever seen anything like this,” Jackson County Humane Officer Sheila Chambers said. “The woman had the puppy around the neck. There’s no way it could have defended itself.

Police said Carte beat her 9-week-old puppy, Mojo, to death. Neighbours said she took in the dog about three weeks ago in an effort to save it’s life.

“She loved the dog when she wasn’t drinking, but when she’s drinking, you know, you just gotta look over her,” neighbour Diane Lane said.

Police said neighbors called 911 after witnessing Carte beat the dog. When police got to her apartment, they said she was sitting in the floor crying, and said her puppy was dead after it fell down the stairs.

Neighbours told police a much different story, and said Carte picked up the dog by the neck, punched it in the face, and vigorously shook it, while cursing and screaming she was going to kill it.

It was then that she allegedly opened her apartment door and threw it inside.

“She went into detail that you could hear the puppy hit the wall, and you could hear the puppy yelp,” Patrol man J.E. Cogar of the Ravenswood Police Department said.

Police said the puppy was dead inside a cardboard box when they went inside. Neighbours said she became upset when the dog used the bathroom in the apartment.

“I try to save dog’s lives, saves animals lives, and I have to put up with that,” Chambers said.

Carte is in the South Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Neighbors called 911 Thursday night, terrified after they said they saw a woman beating her 9-week old puppy and screaming she was going to kill the animal.

Marlyn Carte has been charged with felony animal cruelty. When police got to her apartment on Joe Short Drive, they said she was sitting at the bottom of her stairs crying, and said the dog had fallen down the stairs and was dead.

Witnesses told police they saw her pick up the puppy by the neck, punch it in the face and vigorously shake it, saying she was going to kill it.

Then she allegedly opened her apartment door, slung the puppy inside and witnesses said they could hear the dog hit the wall and yelp. On her way to the police station, police said she admitted to killing the puppy, known as Mojo to neighbors.

Police also said she was extremely intoxicated. The humane officer who responded to the call said this is the worst case of animal abuse she’s ever seen

Neighbors who called 911 said Carte had rescued the dog from animal abuse.

Memphis Man Accused Of Putting A Puppy In The Dishwasher

Comments Off on Memphis Man Accused Of Putting A Puppy In The Dishwasher

A maintenance man in Memphis, Tennessee made a grisly discovery this week when he noticed a trash bag inside a dumpster and opened it to find a dead puppy.

He immediately alerted police, and after an investigation, authorities were able to piece together a shocking and offensive act of animal cruelty.

Marcus Curry

Apparently, twenty-seven-year-old Marcus Curry decided to stick the poor puppy in the washing machine for his own amusement, and not surprisingly, the little guy died during the cycle.

According to The Province, Curry denied putting the mixed breed inside the washing machine, but police have reportedly found two witnesses, one who says he actually saw the accused put the animal in the dishwasher and a second who claims the accused admitted he left him in there for “too long”.

Curry has since been charged with aggravated abuse of animals and is still being held on $40,000 bail.

There’s nothing that gets people riled up quite like child abuse and animal abuse.

As a society, we tend to sympathize with those who are least capable of protecting themselves, and whenever someone breaches that trust, we tend to respond with anger.

Police Say Teen Fatally Stabbed Family Puppy

Comments Off on Police Say Teen Fatally Stabbed Family Puppy

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — A disturbing case of animal abuse. Anne Arundel County police charged a teen with stabbing the family puppy to death.

Christie Ileto has more of the disturbing details. (See video in link below)

Police say they found a puppy stabbed to death inside a Linthicum home on Mountain Road on Tuesday evening.

“It was very bloody. A bloody knife found at the scene,” said Justin Mulcahy, Anne Arundel County police. “It’s certainly even more disturbing that it’s a juvenile suspect in this case.

Police say a 14-year-old is allegedly behind this callous crime. Reports show a 10-week-old puppy was stabbed multiple times in the throat and stomach.

Animal Control found the lifeless corpse on the teen’s bed, next to a kitchen knife.

“I looked out and I saw three police cars across the street,” said Alice Scarborough.

Scarborough lives next door. She, like many other neighbors, are trying to make sense of it all.

“I was shocked. I was shocked because I used to walk my grandson around the corner when he was smaller and he would talk to the little boy that was down there,” she said.

Police say there was no evidence the puppy provoked the attack but officers say the teenager didn’t explain why he stabbed the 10-week-old St. Bernard to death.

“There’s no logical explanation as to why this was done. It was really for unknown reasons,” said Mulcahy.

The 14-year-old is now back in his father’s custody and has been charged with animal cruelty on a juvenile citation.

Police say there were no prior Animal Control reports of problems with the puppy. Animal Control has the puppy’s remains and are scheduled to do a necropsy.

Man cited for malnurished mother dog, puppies

Comments Off on Man cited for malnurished mother dog, puppies

DAYTON — One man faces seven counts of animal cruelty for the rancid conditions he was keeping his pit bull and her six puppies.

Dayton police officers were dispatched to the home of Michael Alan Cornett on a complaint that a door was left open at the residence, according to the police report.

Officers entered the home in the 400 block of Santa Cruz and started examining the conditions of the residence.

In the garage police found a black and white pit bull before entering the home to find the kitchen and the majority of the house filled with dog feces and garbage, according to the report.

The report also stated “it smelled like ammonia or animal urine and dog feces inside the home.”

In one of the bedrooms inside of the home police uncovered a cage containing six puppies.

“The cage had a urine soaked sheet at the bottom of it,” according to the report. “The puppies all were howling and jumping up on the side of the cage. There was no bowl of water and no food inside of the cage for the puppies.”

Animal control responded to the residence and Cornett said he would willingly give up the mother and her six puppies but wanted to keep a black and white pit bull that officers had seen in the garage. “WTF…surely this cold hearted shit, shouldn’t be allowed to own animals ever again…I just don’t get this legal system???”

Cornett received two citations for failure to license his dogs from animal control. The mother dog’s ribs and hip bones were protruding and she appeared malnourished. The puppies suffered from dehydration, said police.
