Graphic Video: Animals Are Not Ours To Abuse; Petitions To Sign

Comments Off on Graphic Video: Animals Are Not Ours To Abuse; Petitions To Sign

It’s simple: Animals exist for their own reasons—they don’t want to be trapped in the wild, torn away from their families, confined to cages or small tanks, beaten, neglected, abused, or killed. You can relate, right?

The only reason why people eat, wear, confine, and kill animals is because animals can’t fight back. Industries that exploit animals may not listen to the voices of the animals who are crying out for help, but they will listen to yours!

Viewer Discretion Advised

Whether it’s making sure always to adopt animals from shelters instead of buying from a breeder or a pet store, telling local stores to ditch glue traps, speaking out against dissection or cruel events like “donkey basketball” at school, reporting chained dogs or dogfighting in the local neighborhood, or volunteering at a local animal shelter, we all can make simple decisions that help animals every single day.

Dog Tied To A Tree With Garden Hose, Now Has Chance To Live

Comments Off on Dog Tied To A Tree With Garden Hose, Now Has Chance To Live

“Obviously it doesn’t take a genius to understand that the person who left this poor dog; did so because they couldn’t be bothered with it any more. Obviously never heard of animal groups that would have taken it in. They are merely cold hearted bastards; using up oxygen intended for decent people. Please contact police if you have any information!”

When Kaleigh Wetrich went for a walk with friends along the wooded area in north Oak Cliff County, Dallas, Texas, she never expected to find an abandoned dog, but she did.

The 6- to 8-month-old Boxer mix was emaciated and cruelly tied to a tree with a garden hose. He was deliberately left there to die.

Wetrich heard a faint bark coming from the woods. She followed the noise and found the innocent dog.

“I can’t just leave a living creature to die like that,” Wetrich told Fox News.

According to authorities, the dog that now goes by name Lucky was probably abandoned in the forest for at least a week prior to being found. Local rescue group, Apollo Rescue, saved Lucky as soon as Wetrich reported the incident.

Lucky was tied with a heavy garden hose and there was no food or water left for him. Rescuers say that he was close to organ failure but luckily he was found in time to save his life.

According to Steve Basham of Apollo Rescue, Lucky has a chance at survival. The rescue group is caring for the canine while local authorities try to build a case against the dog’s previous owner.

Finding whoever abandoned Lucky in the woods and charging the person(s) with animal cruelty will be a difficult task. The dog was left in a field with no address and there are no witnesses to this event.

Authorities encourage anyone with information to this crime to come forward.

Rescuers Stop Traffic To Save Stray Dog

Rescuers Stop Traffic to Save Stray Dog | Life With Dogs.

Rescuers risked their life in heavy traffic last Sunday night to save the life of a stray German shepherd.

Image

Chris Jenkins of Bandade Animal Rescue was one of the people that spotted the German shepherd on a busy toll road in Houston, Texas. Jenkins got some help from a Good Samaritan that stopped to help her corral the dog, stop traffic and bring the dog to safety.

Once is the safety of Jenkins car Jenkins realized that the dog had a badly infected hind leg. Once taken to the veterinarian the leg would have to be amputated due to the severe infection. The dog has been named Mills and is doing well after her surgery. She is estimated to be two-years-old and once she is fully recovered and spayed she will be ready for adoption.

For more information on Bandade Animal Rescue and how you can donate to help with the cost of treating Mills visit their website.

I have a Yorkshire Terrier who had to have both eyes removed within 1 month of each other. We took him to the vets numerous times, saying he just didn’t seem right; as an owner who loves their dog, one knows if & when something is wrong!! However, the vet kept telling us he just had infections, which he was treated for.

Two years ago on Christmas Eve, we knew something was seriously wrong with Harry; so we rushed him to the vet. His retina had detached & the pressure in his eye was so high, he must have felt like his head was about to burst. He went straight into theatre, there was nothing they could do, other than to  remove the eye then & there.

They told us his other eye had glaucoma & may have to come out as the retina could detach in that one also. After a month of seeing him refuse food & just wanting to sit somewhere quiet, we couldn’t bear to see him go through so much pain again, so we told the vets to take his remaining eye out also. We learnt that the pressure in that eye was triple what it should have been, so we made the right move!

Harry after having both eyes removed due to Glaucoma

Having had both eyes out, Harry is virtually no different. As long as we don’t move furniture around, he knows where he is going & will often run from one room to the other…which amazes me!!  Most people don’t even notice he has no eyes.”

“He is the same dog, just as cheeky & mischievous…just without eyes! He loves to be cuddled up with me on the settee or even riding on my wheelchair, he knows he is safe, because he knows he is loved & gives that love back tenfold; there is no other feeling in the world, like that!!”

Video: Emaciated Horse Seized; Owner Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

Comments Off on Video: Emaciated Horse Seized; Owner Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

“To all owners of horses or any other animal for that matter…if you can’t feed or treat any injury they have…PLEASE tell your local animal shelter; so that they can try to help you out before it gets too late!! If you don’t, then just do us all a favour & go take a long walk off a very short pier; because you are using up valuable tax payers money to get you prosecuted!! Seriously…there is no excuse or shame in opening your gobs & asking for help, that’s presuming you actually care about animals, in the first place!!”

Animal control officers seized a horse Monday that they said was starving and had no water.

They were alerted to the animal’s plight after a woman reported finding it wandering in the road late Friday, near the intersection of McCarver Street and Eastman Road.

Nancy Garwood noticed the paint horse as she returned home from work about midnight.

The horse lover keeps tack in the trunk of her car, so she stopped, got a lead rope and approached the frightened animal.

“I got out and he let me carry him with the rope,” Garwood said.

She called police who helped take the stallion back to the property located in the 200 block of McCarver Street.

Emaciated Horse Seized In Longview

Published on 3 Jun 2013

Animal control officers seized a horse from its owner in South Longview Monday afternoon.

“That horse escaped to tell us his story,” Garwood said. “He escaped to tell us he was back here with no food and no water.”

Richard Fincher, executive director for Safe Haven Equine Rescue Center, said the horse had been tied to a tree without feed, grass, shelter or water and was severely underweight.

“He’s got a body weight of one. On a scale of one to nine, that’s about as low as you can go without death,” Fincher said.

He said the horse would be taken to a veterinarian for a medical examination.

Fincher and Garwood estimated the horse to be about 10 years old, and Fincher said it is not clear how long it had been since the horse had been fed.

Garwood said finding the horse created a bond — one she hopes will lead to her adopting the animal.

“Once he is rehabilitated and they put weight on him and get him his shots, I would love to take him, she said.

But Fincher said Safe Haven Equine Rescue operates under a rule that prevents them from placing animals in homes in the same county in which the animal was seized.

James Crittenden, an investigator with the Gregg County District Attorney’s office, did not release the owner’s name.

He said the DA’s office was preparing to file a charge of animal cruelty, a Class A misdemeanor.

“We’ve got two bad situations here. The condition of the horse and he was out in the road where he could’ve caused a terrible accident,” Crittenden said.

“He got out because he was searching for food and water.”

Shane Johnson, who was visiting a neighbor nearby, said he didn’t know the name of the horse’s owner but had seen the owner with the horse Monday morning.

“They feed him, but they don’t give him enough, I can tell you that,” Johnson said. “I’ve fed his horse myself. I’ve given him a whole bale of hay.”

Johnson said he didn’t notice the horse’s condition since the last time he fed him and never contacted authorities.

“That horse turned him (the owner) in when he went down there on Eastman Road,” Johnson said.

Crittenden said cases involving neglected horses are not common but it happens frequently enough that his office makes sure people know they will be charged if they do not take care of their animals.

These cases will be prosecuted,” he said.

A live Dog; Dropped Off At Animal Shelter Wrapped In Sealed Plastic Bags (Photos)

Comments Off on A live Dog; Dropped Off At Animal Shelter Wrapped In Sealed Plastic Bags (Photos)

“WTF…Yes you read the title right! Why in hells name would you take the time to drop a dog off at a pound, but first try to suffocate it with plastic bags??presumably so that it would be dead;by the time the box was opened???? I am literally gobsmacked & sickened by this despicable cold-hearted, callous, cruel & cowardly act!! Did the bxxxxxds think if they dropped it off, they would get away with it;by saying that’s how they found the dog?? wouldn’t surprise me!!  They are sick in the head & danger to other animals, anyone who can place a plastic bag over the head of a living  breathing being; is a danger to society in general, they are psycho’s.”

“They MUST be forced to suffer the consequences of their actions! Nothing less than a long jail sentence, a fine, & banned from ever owning animals for life!! I wish they could experience how it feels to be forced to go without oxygen, food, water & be covered in sores & ulcers; for the same amount of time poor Champ suffered!!”

“Thank God the desk clerk checked the parcel; she could have just placed it in a corner to open at a later time! Had she done so, the poor dog would surely have died from lack of oxygen! Kudos to the desk clerk, the people who caught up with the cowardly owners that did this & also S.A.F.E. Animal Rescuefor willing to care for the poor dog, now named Champ. Please keep him in your prayers & while you’re at it, pray those that did this; get the punishment they deserve…evil sick MF’s!”

It’s beyond belief realizing that a pair of cowardly culprits dropped off their malnourished, severely neglected dog at the Los Angeles West Valley Animal Shelter a few days ago wrapped in a sealed plastic bag and left him on the clerk’s counter before just walking off.

Thinking the package was a routine delivery, the clerk was shocked when she opened it and discovered a blue, blooded dog who wasn’t moving. One plastic bag was sealed over the dog’s head, and another plastic bag was tied around his neck.

The clerk immediately rushed the dog to the clinic where the veterinarian staff was able to revive the defenseless little guy who was severely matted and hardly able to move

His body was covered with open wounds and ulcers as the staff shaved him down. The tiny starved dog weighed only seven pounds; he should have weighed twice that amount. He has been named Chamsky, but more informally he is now called Champ.
S.A.F.E. Animal Rescue is caring for Champ who has now been placed in foster care after his initial veterinarian evaluation. Malnutrition and having been deprived of oxygen play a major part in his medical issues, but Champ is getting medicated baths, and several medications for his skin ulcers and infections.
Champ’s slow recovery can be followed on Facebook by clicking here.

The shelter staff were able to catch the animal abusers in the parking lot of West Valley Animal Shelter, and they are being charged with animal cruelty. Champ will be evidence of their abuse in court one day.

Severely Burned Pitbull Delivers Her Puppies In Illinois (Photos)

“Our prayers were answered…Petunia, the beautiful Pitbull dog that was set on fire, finally gave birth…thanks to all who prayed for her & her babies! But the bastard that set her on fire is still loose…he must be caught as he is a danger to all!”

Petunia’s new precious babies!

On Thursday, a grievously wounded dog was discovered alongside a roadway in Monee, Ill., and on Friday night, she gave birth to five puppies.

Petunia

The dog, named “Petunia,”  is now the responsibility of the rescue organization, It’s a Pittie Rescue, and she is receiving veterinary treatment from the Animal Wellness Center, whose staff stayed with her through the night to ensure that her delivery went smoothly.

Petunia & her precious babies!

Since Petunia’s story was first published, well wishes have been pouring in from across the nation.

Petunia has extensive burns across much of her body. Though no one is certain what happened to her, it appears that she was intentionally set on fire.

Fortunately, she was discovered and rescued, literally in the nick of time.

Petunia now has her own Facebook page, “Mama Petunia,” which can be accessed here.

Poodle Gets Makeover, Chance At New Life

Comments Off on Poodle Gets Makeover, Chance At New Life

“OMG…a Poodle…it looks more like an alien! This is shocking & has infuriated the hell out of me! I’m sick of seeing instances like this. That poor girl must have been in agony, carrying those massive locks of matted hair around. Why for the love of God, does somebody get a dog like this & not brush it weekly?? I just don’t understand the mentality of some people…do they really look at the dog & think it’s ok? well they must do; or else we wouldn’t keep seeing dogs in such appalling conditions!”

“All I can say is thank the Lord she was rescued, had she not been; I fear her life would have ended sooner & in a severe amount of pain too! But I have to ask, why the hell was this person not prosecuted for this? Just because they allowed the dog to be surrendered, does not excuse them, when all it needed was a daily quick brush; it just sheer bloody laziness!

“Ok, those that surrender due to unforeseen circumstances, who have not caused the animal any pain or neglected it in any way; no, don’t punish the responsible owners!”

“I say, punish those who surrender an animal, that has obviously been neglected, abused or cruelly treated; like this poor girl, looks like she had been neglected for a very long time, if not her whole life; her owners should still be prosecuted!! Had they not surrendered her, they would have eventually had the dog taken off them & have been prosecuted…in these cases, it just doesn’t seem fair. These owners get off Scott free; & still have the luxury of buying further animals if they so wish! No, the law needs to be changed to reflect the difference in circumstances when surrendered!!”

“Why the hell get a dog, who’s coat is going to need attention if you have no intention of either keeping it clean & brushed yourself; or sending it to a fur dresser? I’m sorry but I have little sympathy with those who say, I couldn’t do it, or couldn’t afford to send to a fur dresser…that is no excuse. God chose to give humans a voice, so they should bloody well use it. Surely they could ask the local shelter or somebody to help, but far too many times the owner doesn’t say anything!! I don’t know how they can look at their pets & think every is fine or just pretend everything is hunky dory! “

“If a murderer handed himself in, should that mean he doesn’t have to pay for his crime? No, he will still be punished…what’s the difference??

“I have Yorkshire Terrier’s whose hair, I believe is the most similar to human hair, it certainly grows like human hair & they don’t moult. In the summer, they have their coats cut fairly short; which is much easier to maintain. But it gets still gets knotted if not brushed; for easiness on my part, they have 2 brushes, one is kept in the pocket of my wheelchair, the other next to my bed; so wherever I am, they get brushed until they decide to run off. However, during the winter I let their coats grow to keep them warm; & although they are still bathed & brushed every month, like in summer…they both still go to the fur dresser  every 12 weeks. Why? well the main reason is their hair needs to be cut around their faces, nails trimmed & anal glands seen to! Plus they both have needle sharp teeth; I only have 2 hands & rather like the 10 fingers I have…so it’s best left to the professionals!!

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Animal shelter volunteers in Denton have rescued a neglected 14-year-old poodle and are hoping to soon give her a new life.

Ginger as she was brought in

Ginger as she was brought in

Ginger was rescued from a hoarding situation in Denton when her owner decided to give her up in hoping someone would provide a better home.

“Her hair was matted so badly that it was matted into her mouth,” said Stacy Smith with the Humane Society of Flower Mound. “There’s still hair that we’re not able to get out of her teeth until we’re able to put her under anesthesia.”

Smith says doctors have treated Ginger for dehydration, though other health concerns remain according to the shelter Facebook page.

“She has a heart murmur and is running a fever–no surprise she has an infection going on so she got a shot and we’ll run bloodwork tomorrow when she is rehydrated a bit.”

Ginger after being shaved, bless her!

Ginger has so far eaten a big meal of specially prepared food and is resting comfortably.

People can follow Ginger’s progress at #gingerthepoodle on twitter.

Horribly neglected puppy discovered in Mississippi

Comments Off on Horribly neglected puppy discovered in Mississippi

A terribly neglected puppy was brought to the Tunica, Miss. Humane Society today.

Though her eyes are filled with infection, so badly crusted over with pus that she cannot open them…she wags her tail.

Noel

Noel

Despite her cracked and bleeding flesh, filled in some places with maggots…she wags her tail.

Noel, as she is now called, has endured a painful life of neglect, yet still, she wags her tail.

She has, until today, been deprived of kindness and compassion, yet still she wags her tail.

Nobody knows who allowed Noel to fall into this pitiful state of health.

Right now, what is important is getting Noel the care that she needs to survive and recover.

The following update was posted on Tuesday afternoon at the Tunica Humane Society Facebook page:

It will take months and months of special care to restore this puppy’s health but we will not fail her. The indifference to these animals will not win in Tunica County.

We are here and we will heal this innocent baby. Even when I was taking these pictures, her little tail was wagging against the kennel.

How these dogs can be so forgiving, I will never understand. That is why we as humans can learn so much from these animals. They teach us to be kinder human beings.

Noel is being treated by a veterinarian for her deluge of maladies.

Please keep this neglected puppy in your thoughts as she heals from her many wounds.

Two Horses Dead in Wyoming County Animal Neglect

Comments Off on Two Horses Dead in Wyoming County Animal Neglect

WYOMING COUNTY, WV -59 News first told you of animal abuse in Tazewell County a month ago.

Now another case, this time in Wyoming County, is even worse. Police are looking for a man named Donnie Ellis on animal cruelty charges. Two horses are dead due to not being properly fed in the Reedy Creek area.

59News reporter Jessie Gavin tells what makes this case so appalling.

“Warning, some of these images may be disturbing:”-http://www.wvnstv.com/story/20231921/two-horses-dead-in-wyoming-county-animal-neglect?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=8019332

We’re told Donnie Ellis was offered a deal. Instead of paying rent for his home, all he had to do was feed and take care of four horses because the owner was unable to care for them. Now officers are looking at why they say he intentionally neglected to feed two of them for quite some time.

“In this particular case I would think it’s just a fact of being cruel to the animals and just being lazy. Just didn’t take the time to care for the horses,” said Wyoming County Humane Officer Ray Farmer.

Farmer talks through how officers became aware of what was happening.

“Two officers that answered the complaint on Monday, they found two dead horses. One of them was in the barn and there was no food or water present, the other one was at an outside facility and it too didn’t have access to food or water.

From what I understand, the gentleman that was supposed to be caring for the horses, did have access to food and water, he just wasn’t providing it to the horses. The one horse appeared to be deceased for several days, possibly longer than a month. The other one had probably just died within the last week,” he said.

The other two horses under Ellis’ care are being taken care of and are expected to live.

“His brother came and got the horses and took them to his facility. Those two horses at this time are getting proper care and that’s something that we are going to follow up on to see that they are getting taken care of properly,” he said.
