“The condition these poor rabbits have to endure before slaughter is heartbreaking & just sickening! No animal should suffer disease, pain, infection & total a lack of care; when the ultimate end is for human enjoyment!. This despicable industry must be stopped, please help by signing the petition & spreading it far & wide, thanks!”
For over 2 years, Animal Equality investigators have infiltrated the rabbit meat industry in Spain. Two of the farms investigated are directly linked with restaurants in the UK.
Today, Animal Equality has been featured in The Sunday Times where it reveals the shocking findings of its latest investigation. Two of the farms investigated are linked to and English distributor, and restaurants such as the Terrace at the National Theatre in London.
For over a period of 2 years, Animal Equality investigators infiltrated the Spanish rabbit meat industry. A total of 72 farms, and 4 slaughterhouses have been investigated.
Findings of this investigation:
• Animals killed by blunt force trauma. Furthermore, our investigators have been able to report that this is a common practice within rabbit industry.
• Workers throwing live rabbits into the waste containers, due to over-production.
• Animals with open wounds or infections were left in the cages and had no veterinary treatment.
• Cannibalism amongst certain animals provoked by over-crowded conditions.
• Farms selling rabbits to restaurants without them first meeting health and safety requirements.
• A vet smashing a rabbit against the ground whilst acknowledging, to the camera, that this constitutes animal abuse.
• Farms which had never received health and bio-security inspections
• Dead animals left to rot in cages next to live animals.

“Dear God…this is no slaughterhouse; its a torture chamber. NO animal should be treated like an inanimate object, incapable of any feelings. Having to watch their fellow beings being slaughtered right in front of them is despicable & in total contradiction of updated slaughterhouse rules. Animals feel pain & fear just as we do, if a slaughterhouse like this was found to be operating in England etc. it would be shut down immediately! So please send the email at the link below; these animals need our help, our voices NOW!”
Animals from all over the world end up in Beirut Public Slaughterhouse, Karantina. Sheep and cattle are exported live from countries in the European Union such as France, the Czech Republic and Spain (where they have legal protection), and end up here. Our Investigations Unit visited Beirut Public Slaughterhouse, and what they found was unimaginable.
Please email the Lebanese Agriculture Minister. Help get this hellish place shut down.
Our investigators are still trying to come to terms with what they’they’ve seen.Below is an investigator’s account of their visit. Please be warned; what you are about to read is distressing.
“The slaughterhouse is chaos. Everything is coated in a layer of blood, faeces and body parts. The slaughter area is heaving with people, live animals and slaughtered bodies. The sounds and smells are overwhelming.
Men grab defenceless sheep by the fleece or back leg. They fall to their knees and are forcefully dragged, one by one, to the slaughter line. Cattle are dragged by ropes around their necks. When they try to resist restraint they are yelled at and beaten viciously with metal rods. The animals are visibly terrified and in their frantic attempts to escape they slip, trip and fall, slamming their heads into the concrete floor.
Groups of sheep are forced to jump over dead bodies and wide gutters full of blood. They desperately try to force their way away from the bodies of other sheep they have just watched being slaughtered. Cows are left suspended fully-conscious by one leg for long periods of time, their faces resting in pools of other animals’ blood. They watch animals being slaughtered all around them. I wonder if they realize it will soon be their turn?”

The debate over bullfighting has come to Massachusetts (USA). The newspaper ‘The Boston Globe‘ has one devoted to publishing in which charges the “grotesque spectacle” , praised the veto imposed on the run in Catalonia and the Canary Islands and suggests that Spain should disappear this tradition.
The bullfighter Manuel Jesus ‘El Cid’, in Las Ventas, on May 22. JuanJo Martin | Reuters
In his editorial, ‘The Boston Globe’ considered, noting the drop in the number of runs and the decline of the Spanish fans for the bulls, that currently “there is no romance or honor” on the run.The paper notes that there is a “fight” but “torture an animal to enjoy the mass”. And remember that even a declared admirer of the bulls as the American writer Ernest Hemingway was “honest enough” to recognize that what fascinated him the party was “the spectacle of death”.
“THE TIME HAS PASSED BULLS”
The journal welcomes Spanish that increasingly reject “as entertainment” and stresses that the parliaments of Catalonia and the Canary Islands banned bullfighting and that these are no longer issued on public television.
By contrast, notes that the Spanish Government declare bulls weigh cultural interest . Given this possibility, the newspaper of Boston takes sides and nostalgic suggests that the bulls should “accept the reality”, which in the opinion of the newspaper is that “the bulls are inhumane and their time has passed.” “Spain’s contributions to Western culture have been many glorious, but the grotesque spectacle of torturing bulls to death for amusement is not one of them,” he concludes. “Well said, its way past time this horrific spectacle of killing for fun & family entertainment; be banned altogether!”
“This is bad news my friends! Please sign petitions below & share widely, only our voices collectively joined, can help stop this heinous brutality; a bloody sport, disguised as tradition!”
Spanish MPs have voted to consider giving bullfighting special cultural status – a move that could overturn regional bans on the age-old tradition
The number of bullfights each year is falling in Spain
In a 180-40 vote, the parliament backed a petition signed by 590,000 people.
The tradition dates back at least 4,000 years and is thought to have been popularised by the Romans
It remains popular in southern France, Portugal and some South American countries
On Tuesday, the popular petition was easily backed in parliament, where the governing conservative Popular Party (PP) has a majority.
Under the proposal, bullfighting would be promoted by the authorities who would also push the UN to recognise it as part of Spain’s cultural heritage.
A parliamentary commission is now expected to fine-tune proposed legislation and the vote could take place later this year.
The parliamentary vote is an attempt by pro-bullfighting conservatives to keep this controversial tradition alive, the BBC’s Tom Burridge reports.
About 2,000 fights are still held every year in Spain, but the numbers are falling.
Bullfighting was banned last year in Catalonia, in the north-east, with supporters of the measure describing the blood-soaked pageants as barbaric.
The ban in Catalonia was also seen by many Spaniards as an attempt by Catalan nationalists to distinguish the region from the rest of Spain and its traditions.
Bullfighting was also banned in the Canary Islands in 1991.
From the moment the bull enters the ring, he is destined to die. His death will be slow and painful, and the last moments of his life will be full of terror and confusion as he hears the sounds of a jeering crowd. For the bull, bullfighting is no “competition”. It is simply slaughter for human entertainment.
Some links & Petitions to sign against Bullfighting:-
“I can’t believe the women who witnessed the attack on the dog, has been asked to withdraw her claim, because the guy (who beat his dog to death); has children!! WTF… alarm bells should be ringing for the safety of those children…the psychological literature available to all, is replete with major studies that have identified the animal/human violence link. What they should be doing is giving his name to animal control & police; asking them to seize all his other animals! He should then be forced to undergo some kind of anger management course; then the police should keep a close eye on him. I doubt very much this person will be prosecuted for his heinous crime. People should be concerned for those that have to live with a person, capable of breaking a dogs spine, in temper; not helping him to get away with it because he has children!”
A BRITISH expat witnessed a dog ‘brutally beaten and killed’ outside her home in Almogia, Malaga.
Susie Murdoch, 55, saw a man trying to retrieve a male mastin from the top of her drive before launching a vicious attack on the animal.
“I saw the mastin, then a man following it and shouting as it tried to hide behind a tree.
“He picked up a very large stick from the ground and began beating the dog so I ran up the drive shouting,” said Murdoch.
“He shouted something back at me in Spanish and then walked away.” As the owner left the premises, Murdoch went after the injured animal.
After nearly 30 minutes of searching, Murdoch saw the dog collapse in a nearby field through a pair of binoculars.
Murdoch, originally from Brighton, found the animal dead with what appeared to be a broken spine.
After reporting the attack to local police, Murdoch has been asked by some locals to withdraw her claims because ‘the man has a wife and children’.
“That is something I will not do,” she said.
“It’s absolutely disgusting, the dog was killed just because it wouldn’t go back to him,” added the expat.
It emerges that the man, who is thought to be in his mid-forties, also owns several other animals.
Mastins are commonly used throughout Spain to guard livestock due to their size and temperament.
“Yes, I’m writing through tears, why? well obviously because I’m saddened by this, but also; because I wish there were more people like this in the world. Why can’t all people have the compassion & empathy, this young police officer showed? It doesn’t cost anything to be kind…people around the world should remember that!”
Too frequently we see stories of police acting inappropriately – shooting innocent and friendly pet dogs, without so much as a whisper of remorse. But there is always the other side of the coin, police acting heroically and showing compassion to our best friends. We do not see this side often enough.
Be prepared to bust out theKleenex for this video, accompanied by Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel,” which we know all too well from those heartbreaking ASPCA commercials. The video shows a police officer in Spain making just a few simple gestures to show a dog he cares. The dog was struck by a car, and Carlos Rosa stays with him on the side of the road, refusing to leave his side.
Sadly, the dog did not survive. His internal injuries were too severe to repair, and he was euthanized at a veterinary clinic. But before he departed this world, he was brought some comfort by being shown the kindness of a human who made sure this dog would not be alone when he died.
“R.I.P Tidus, you are now pain free & will find peace over Rainbow Bridge… you will be missed by so many; even though they never met you, you were an inspiration!! I prayed so hard that you would be well; but I guess God needed another angel by his side xxx”
“To the cowardly bastard’s that set poor Tidus the dog on fire, just for a laugh:-The innocent life that you inflicted such pain upon, for fun…for your own selfish gratification, is now in heaven! I hope you realise that what you did was something that can never be forgiven or forgotten…God will not forgive you; you will have to live with the death of Tidus, forever! I hope his agonised soul & painful cries, torture your every living moment… until the day you rot in hell!!”
Tidus, the hero, Tidus, the beautiful, Tidus, the dog that inspired the world and showed us all the true value of life passed away; yesterday in the loving arms of her owner and surrounded by us that came to love him.
His sweetness, courage, and strength in the face of a fate that many a human would consider worst than death gained him the support and admiration of millions, not only in Spain, but around the world. At a time when people strive to find signs of humanity around them and don’t find it, Tidus plea provided us both hope and it made us reflect about who we really are, and where we are going, as individuals and a society.
Through his battle for life, his small daily conquests and his ultimate loss, Tidus has given us all a lesson we shall never forget, and the lesson is this:
Every life is priceless…. every life.
Tidus was not just a dog. He was SOMEONE.He knew what he liked, and disliked, he had preferences, and wishes, and he didn’t wish to die after providing a few minutes of fun to a heartless gang of thugs.
He enjoyed playing with this friends at the park and chase after cats. He preferred the bed to the sofa, and above all, he loved people, and children. He was kind, calm and carried his suffering with a dignity that no one that met him or heard of his please will will ever forget. Yesterday, whilst he exhaled his last breath, his vets broke up in tears, and then, he was gone, and there was silence.
And what of his killers? They remain on the loose. And they have burned three other dogs in the past weeks.
And what of the police? The police is busy, placing parking tickets and pretending nothing has happened. A pretend that will continue until someone, maybe a kid, maybe an elderly person, surely someone weak and helpless, incapable of defending himself will appear charred to the bone, as Tidus was. The day it happens, Police will be slapped on the face with the fact that they allowed serial killers to live among us.
Goodbye Tidus. It was a pleasure to meet you. Look out for us, could you?
Botswana will ban commercial hunting from January 2014 over growing concerns about the sharp decline in wildlife species, officials have announced.
“The shooting of wild game for sport and trophies is no longer compatible with our commitment to preserve local fauna,” the environment ministry said.
The ban is likely to be controversial as many communities depend on hunting for their livelihoods.
As much as a third of the global elephant population lives in Botswana. Recent estimates place the number at about 130,000.
Conservationists are concerned about the erosion of river banks caused by the animals in some nature parks, the BBC’s Letlhogile Lucas in the capital, Gaborone, reports.
The ban, set to come into place on 1 January, could also pose a threat to local communities, in particular bushmen, for whom hunting is a means to survive, our correspondent adds.
Furthermore, selling hunting licences to wealthy Westerners is an extremely lucrative business, he says.
Hunting concessions currently exist in the northern Okavango Delta and the parks of the Kalahari region, famous for its upmarket safari lodges.
According to the environment ministry’s official statement, the government will continue to issue special game licences “for traditional hunting by some local communities within designated wildlife management areas”.
Average trophy fee per species
Elephant: Up to $30,000, depending on weight
Lion: $29,000
Leopard: $7,150
Buffalo: $3,744
Giraffe: $3,500
Zebra: $1,923
Due to its seasonal nature, hunting has only contributed a minimal amount to the tourism sector, which ranks second to the diamond industry in terms of its revenue earnings, the ministry said.
Designated hunting zones will be turned into “photographic areas”.
“The ideal scenario would be that it has a similar effect to the ban on whaling 20 years ago,” the organisation’s spokesman, Adrian Hiel, told the BBC.
“Whale watching is now proven to be more sustainable and profitable than hunting and killing the animals.”
Earlier this year, Spain’sKing Juan Carlosfaced international criticism for going on a hunting trip in Botswana. “He apologised to the Spanish people, not the world!”
“If there is a way to torment a bull (amongst other animals) or inflict pain, whilst calling it a tradition, therefore a part of culture; you can count on some countries to do so. Spain being one of them for allowing this particularly horrific show.”
IF you thought bullfighting was bad, prepare to be even more revolted. These shocking images of a bull with its head engulfed in flames are of the Toro Jubilo, an annual festival in the town of Medinaceli in central Spain.
The bull is burnt alive and taunted by the public before it is butchered/ solarpix
Celebrated every November, the twisted revelry centres around the prolonged torture of a bull by attaching flares of burning pitch to its horns and then goading it as the poor creature thrashes around in terror and desperate agony.
All in the name of tradition and entertainment. Yet ludicrously the Spanish insist that it causes no distress to the bull. “Then let them replace the bull”
This year’s fiesta began at 11.30pm on Saturday and attracted 1,500 people – a crowd almost twice the town’s population. Small children clapped and cheered along with their parents as 30 men dragged the bull into the townsquare by a rope wound round its horns.
The square had been scattered with sand to turn it into a makeshift bullring. Men then lit a circle of five bonfires to complete the transformation while a brass band played in the background.

The bull – a three-year-old named Liebro – had arrived in Medinaceli an hour and a half earlier on a lorry from Gallur ranch in the province of Aragon. Now it fought with every muscle in its body as the men forced it to the ground, tied it to a wooden post and strapped a wood and steel frame to its horns.
Attached to this grotesque headdress were torches soaked in pitch – a mixture of turpentine and sulphur. The men then smothered the bull’s face and neck in mud to stop its fur catching fire before igniting the torches.
When they were aflame the bull was cut free from the post and began to run around the ring, furiously shaking its head as red hot droplets fell from the torches on to its face.
Young men played at matadors, taunting the bull with coats spread open like capes. When the animal charged they leapt over a safety fence, the spectators cheering them all the way.
Can you see the shear terror & agony on the face of that bull??? Who could carry on such barbarity??
After 40 minutes the bull was exhausted as well as petrified. It came to a halt with breath steaming out of its nostrils, saliva dripping from its mouth and the hide on its flanks charred black.
When the torches finally burned out, hundreds of fire crackers were set off, terrifying the bull further before it was led out of the ring to be slaughtered. The locals then celebrated by partying until 6am. The fiesta of the Toro Jubilo (jubilant bull) is said to date back 400years but the dictatorGeneral Franco banned it in 1962 after the British press revealed its cruelty to the world.
However, the ban was lifted in 1977 and the festival revived in Medinaceli, which lies 100 miles north-east of Madrid.
” This is nothing but sadistic torture, if someone has to see this sadistic evil torture to have fun, there is something seriously wrong with them!”
A petrified bull stands as the hot liquid flows down the bulls face, blooded mouth from running into objects desperately trying to stop the suffering!….Really is that what they call entertainment…suitable for children?
THE FESTIVAL has been accorded special cultural status by the authorities of Castile and Leon in Spain and the municipality of Medinaceli is applying for it to be awarded Intangible Cultural Heritage status by Unesco.
“This is part of our cultural heritage,” argued Walter Jesus Moreno, 33, one of the participants. “The bull doesn’t suffer at all.” No the bull doesn’t suffer, just look at the above picture, the bull is having a great time…NOT “Let him say that after someone straps lit flames above his head, ignorant bxxxxxd”
But animal rights groupsin both Spain and Britain are campaigning to have the festival banned. Mark Jones, a vet andUK executive director of theHumane Society International, told the Daily Express: “This barbaric festival causes the animal phenomenal stress and fear. The animal would be incredibly frightened by the whole process.
In this day and age people shouldn’t be using animals in this way for their entertainment and they shouldn’t be using culture as an excuse for cruelty.“ Well said Mr Jones”
Spanish animal rights groups say there are numerous fiestas based on animal cruelty around the country. “In the province of Valenciaalone there are 6,000 festivals involving cruelty to bulls. It is barbaricand has to stop.”
The Toro Jubilo fiesta which took place in Medinaceli last year had been banned between 1962 until 1977 after some British reporters denounced the fiesta and the authorities responded by banning its celebration, but now times have changed.” We have done it before, so lets do it again & stop these heinous forms of entertainment”
“Medinaceli Town Hall has this year started the application for the ‘Toro de Fuego’ fiesta to be recognised by UNESCO to obtain ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’ protection for the practice which has been going on for hundreds of years. I just hope amongst the panel who say yea or nea or some animmal”
“UNESCO purpose is to contribute peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the UN Charter.”
“Do you seriously think the right to torture animals via so called traditions; can be included in the above?”
Spanish animal rights groups say there are numerous fiestas based on animal cruelty around the country. In previous years they have organised demonstrations in Medinaceli to protest against the festival but they have had no effect in deterring the locals who see it as their cultural right.
Now they are concentrating on pressuring politicians into banning the fiesta. Silvia Barquero, spokeswoman for PACMA, a political party campaigning for animal rights, said: “In Spain, there are hundreds of festivals involving burning bulls and thousands more involving other forms of cruelty.
“In the province of Valencia alone there are 6,000 festivals involving cruelty to bulls. It is barbaric and has to stop.”
This poor bull looks like he just wants to give up, enough of the pain & torture!!
“I have never seen such pain captured in single images as these have done. They should make all those who support this cruelty, feel so ashamed!!!
“Honestly…can anyone look at that poor bull without conscience, without feeling its unrelenting pain, through burning flesh, his poor eyes singed & scorched so much by the heat he can barely see; the poor beast runs into walls, through the fires set alight around the arena”.
“Well if you can’t muster up any sympathy for this, then I would prefer you to clear off my blog; you best go nosy around someone else’s, who doesn’t care about how animals are treated by human beings.”
Blood flows from the bulls mouth & nose where it tried to ram walls to put the fire out & end it’s nightmare!!
One more night of animal abuse. PACMA complaint with a video of an animal suffering during the so-called ‘Toro Jubilo’, in which the bull by the horns remains tied to a pole to more easily set you an iron frame on which capture calls “fish balls “made with oakum, turpentine and sulfur.
“Please sign the following petitions to stop this horrific torture:”
“OMG…I found this by chance on one of my many “who did it” trails… so please note the following, it has been translated & is….albeit a little disjointed, I have tried to make sense of it! I got the details from the blog below, but if anyone know’s anything please contact those below!”
“There are some really sick people out there, if you don’t want your dog take it to a pound, don’t shove it in a bloody suitcase to be thrown in the back of a garbage truck…I don’t know how anyone could live with themselves having done this…I hope my mate “Karma” makes a visit to the culprits house…very soon!!”

The health status of the dog seems to be good but still under observation. Already several people are organizing to file a subsequent complaint with all the data that have been collected and also the report accompanying veterinarian.
Finally we want to end this message with the good news that a person already have expressed interest in adopting the dog and hopefully soon make the necessary legal procedures to do so, since it falls within the breeds considered by law as potentially dangerous.
