Sweden Bans Bestiality

Comments Off on Sweden Bans Bestiality

Sweden on Thursday proposed legislation that would completely outlaw bestiality, tightening current rules that only prohibit sex with animals that causes mental or physical harm.

“The government is now toughening bestiality laws so that there is no doubt that it’s prohibited to abuse animals,” Rural Affairs Minister Eskil Erlandsson said in a statement.

“There should be no doubt whatsoever that bestiality is unacceptable.”

Until now, bestiality was illegal in Sweden only if it could be proven that the animal had been subjected to suffering.

Starting on January 1st, 2014, however, any sexual act with an animal will be punishable by a fine, a maximum prison sentence of two years, or both, even if the animal shows no sign of injury or suffering.

“I hope that this sort of act doesn’t take place in society at all. And now we’re putting that explicitly into law,” Erlandsson told the TT news agency.

In 2008, Erlandsson came in for criticism for using graphic language during a debate on the floor of parliament in an attempt to describe the difficulty of legislating against bestiality.

While he first expressed his “disgust” for anyone who has sex with animals, Erlandsson continued to offer a graphic example to demonstrate that “what counts as sexual abuse of animals” isn’t always easy to define, much to the surprise of fellow MPs.

“It was distasteful. It sunk to a horrendously low level. I don’t think one needs to discuss details like that in the Riksdag,” Social Democrat MP Monica Green told the Aftonbladet newspaper at the time.

“He mixed up people’s sexuality with animals’ sexuality. His example was also appalling.”

While it’s been nearly 18 months since the government first commissioned an inquiry into the bestiality ban, news that the law was finally on its way came as welcome news to Sweden’s veterinarians.

“It’s very good that the law will be changed,” a spokesman for the Swedish Federation of Veterinarians (Sveriges Veterinärförbund), Johan Beck-Friis, told AFP.

“It’s very important that society makes a clear statement that it is unacceptable to use animals that way,” he said.

The ban will bring Sweden in line with a European Union directive.

Germany introduced a ban in December, following in the footsteps of Britain, France, and Switzerland among others.

The Swedish parliament is expected to pass the bill into law soon, as there is broad political consensus on the issue.

According to Beck-Friis, under the current law veterinarians may suspect that an animal has been sexually abused but they are generally unable to prove it.

As a result, there are no statistics available on how common bestiality is in the country.

In 2006, the latest year for which statistics are available, about 100 cases of animals suffering injuries suspected of being related to bestiality were brought to the authorities’ attention, Beck-Friis said.

Please Save The Wolves: Sign The Enclosed Petitions To Help End The Needless Suffering

Comments Off on Please Save The Wolves: Sign The Enclosed Petitions To Help End The Needless Suffering

“Posting for & on behalf of my dear sister; Louise Du Toit, who tirelessly fights for the rights of all sentient beings & whose music inspires all who listen; to help the voiceless! “

GOOD NEWS that the Montana House Fish, Wildlife and Parks Committee has struck down Senate Bill 397 – which would have allowed the relentless killing of wolves, mountain lions and black bears in Montana – by a vote of 17-4. SB 397 was rejected and tabled indefinitely, due in part to overwhelming public opposition.

This announcement is a great inspiration for us to continue raising awareness and doing our utmost best to be a voice for the voiceless. “For the time has come to take a stand, to honor and respect; to do no harm, to help rebuild the lives that have been wrecked. The time has come to make it known for everyone to see, that beyond the feathers, fur and skin, the heart is beating free.”

It is my ultimate wish that all forms of animal cruelty will forever come to an end. As a singer-songwriter, I have chosen to use my music as one of the vehicles to support this wish. THE TIME HAS COME is a contribution to raise awareness about the suffering and torture that countless animals are constantly enduring at the hands of mindless, heartless humans. May those who listen to it, be deeply touched, vowing to always support the salvation of every living being on earth in any way possible.

Court Ruling Ends Sweden’s Wolf Hunt

Comments Off on Court Ruling Ends Sweden’s Wolf Hunt

“Mother nature has always managed to provide strong, healthy breeds of all animals in her entirety, provided they have the land & food; with which to sustain themselves. The only reason humans have to get involved is because of the imbalance they create by allowing magnificent animals like wolves to be killed in the first place!”

Sweden‘s licensed wolf hunt is effectively over for the season after a court decision on Tuesday left in place a lower court‘s ruling stopping the hunt.

The Supreme Administrative Court (Högsta förvaltningsdomstolen) decided not review a previous decision by the Administrative Court of Appeal (Kammarrätten) that had temporarily halted this season’s wolf hunt.

Earlier in the year, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket) had authorized the killing of 16 wolves in specific territories between February 1st and February 17th.

According to estimates from last year, there are around 270 wolves in Sweden, spread out in about 30 packs, though those numbers have most certainly risen since then.

The agency had planned a “selective and targeted hunt of inbred wolves as a step towards reducing inbreeding and having a sustainable, healthy wolf population”.

The Administrative Court of Appeal ruling amounted to a temporary injunction against the agency’s authorization, but as the hunt is set to end on Sunday, the higher court’s decision not to review the case means the hunt is effectively over for the season.

“That’s going to be the case unless the Administrative Court of Appeal surprises everyone and figures something out tomorrow [Wednesday]”, Mikael Karlsson, chair of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (Naturskyddsföreningen), told Sveriges Television (SVT).

Karlsson welcomed the ruling, adding that it was “important” that the injunction remains in place.

However, the Swedish Hunting Association (Svenska Jägareförbundet) was disappointed that the wolf hunt had been brought to a premature end.

“I see this as devastating for the management of the wolf population. It just means continued frustration for rural residents in this county,” Thomas Björklund, chair for the Hunting Association in Dalarna in central Sweden, told TT.

Sweden’s parliament voted to resume a licensed wolf hunt in 2010 after a 46-year hiatus, allowing 27 wolves to be killed.

Supporters said the cull was needed to strengthen the gene pool of Sweden’s largely inbred wolf population, and wolves were imported from Finland and Russia to replace the killed animals.

The hunt was again authorized in 2011, but not in 2012.

But EU officials told Swedish media they were watching the situation closely to determine whether to take Sweden to the European Court of Justice.

In January 2011, the Commission reprimanded the Scandinavian country for its wolf hunt.

The hunt is supported in rural Sweden, where sheep and reindeer have increasingly come under attack. “Isn’t that just the way of nature? take away the wolves food source & of course they will take if from somewhere their not meant to!”

HOWL ACROSS AMERICA

I watch the wolves go by
It seems as if they fly
As they run across the never-ending plane

With a spirit fierce and wild
And playful like a child
They embrace the earth in sunshine, snow and rain

And we don’t have the right
To keep them from the light
To hunt them down; to let them die in pain

So speak up loud and clear
Let the whole world hear
That roaming free is how they must remain

HOWL ACROSS AMERICA
To keep the wolves alive
HOWL ACROSS AMERICA
Help them to survive

The earth is full of signs
That we have crossed the lines
But we refuse to listen, see or hear

But endless tears will fall
When we will lose it all
We must stop at once to interfere

HOWL ACROSS AMERICA
To keep the wolves alive
HOWL ACROSS AMERICA
Help them to survive

HOWL ACROSS AMERICA
To keep the wolves alive
HOWL ACROSS AMERICA
Help them to survive

Urgent Petition: Please Help Free The Beagles At AstraZeneca plc. Pharmaceutical Company

Comments Off on Urgent Petition: Please Help Free The Beagles At AstraZeneca plc. Pharmaceutical Company

Posting for & on behalf of my fellow animal warrior – Tony Zadel :-https://www.facebook.com/tony.zadel

VERY IMPORTANT

PLEASE SIGN & SHARE URGENTLY THE PETITION INSIDE THIS LINK !

To FREE the BEAGLES at AstraZeneca . Thank you all!

ABOUT THIS PETITION:

AstraZeneca plc is a British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biologics company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It is the world’s fifth-largest pharmaceutical company measured by 2009 prescription drug sales (after Pfizer, Novartis, Sanofi, and GlaxoSmithKline) and has operations in over 100 countries, including research facilities in Södertälje, Sweden.

Like every pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca conducts experiments on animals. According to AstraZeneca’s own website, in 2011 AstraZeneca has used approximately 398,000 animals, including those used by external contract research organisations on their behalf. Approximately 76% (302,480) were rodents, 22% (87,560) were fish and the remaining 2% (7,960) included chickens, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, primates, pigs, goats and sheep. In 2010, AstraZeneca “used” 429,000 animals and in 2009, 410,000 animals were “used” for the purpose of testings and experiments.

In February 2012, Swedish newspapers announced that Anglo-Swedish pharmaceuticals giant AstraZeneca is closing its research facilities in Södertälje, south of Stockholm, as part of a major restructuring, resulting in the loss of around 1,000 Swedish jobs. Over the past two years, the big pharmaceutical giant divested much of its operations in Sweden and this has also affected their laboratory facilities and experimental animal activities.

Since then, the future of the Beagles that are currently still being held in their kennels outside Örkelljunga, is uncertain given that the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has consistently refused to give the dogs a chance of a new life, by releasing them into the care of skilled and engaged people who have offered to adopt them.

For additional information concerning this petition, please visit:http://www.occupyforanimals.org/astrazeneca-please-set-the-beagles-free.html

By signing our petition, the message that you can read below, will instantly be sent to the decision makers at AstraZeneca.

Subject: Please set the Beagles free!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have learned from the Swedish organisation Animal Rights Alliance, through their campaign “Låt Astrahundarna leva!” that the future of the experimental dogs that are currently still being held in your kennel in Rååhöjdens, outside Örkelljunga, is uncertain, given that you have consistently refused to give the dogs a chance of a new life by releasing them into the care of skilled and engaged people who have offered to adopt them.

We have also learned that – after reconsideration – you have scrapped your plans to kill these unfortunate dogs who were born into a life of over stimulation, abuse and exploitation, and that you intend to sell them to painful animal experiments in the UK instead.

We beg you to give these dogs THE chance of their life. Please set them free and give them in the care of the good people who have offered to adopt them so that they can experience the joy of having a loving family – something they have been deprived of their entire life.

Although unwillingly, these poor unfortunate souls have served you loyally until now. Please have mercy on them and set them free. They have suffered enough in your laboratories at the hands of your scientists; please let them live out the rest of their lives in peace, surrounded by the love of the caring families that await them.

The world is watching and is following your company’s decision in this matter. Please make the humane choice and show the world that you are capable of compassion, too.

We thank very much you in advance and we wish you, your loved ones, and the entire staff at AstraZeneca a very happy New Year.

Yours sincerely,

[Your name]

Woman killed by pack of wolves in Swedish zoo

Comments Off on Woman killed by pack of wolves in Swedish zoo

A female employee of the Kolmården zoo in central Sweden was mauled to death in the wolf enclosure on Sunday morning.

A crisis group assembled to provide support for Kolmården’s employees, and the woman’s relatives have been notified, reported news agency TT.

The incident occurred just after 11am on Sunday morning. According to eye-witness reports, the woman went into the enclosure, was surrounded and then attacked, wrote the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Emergency services were alerted at 11.11am, and were initially unable to approach the woman.

“You can’t just go in to a pack of wolves. Police and ambulance staff couldn’t get close to the victim until later,” said Norrköping’s emergency services coordinator Jan Tengeborg to the newspaper.

According to Aftonbladet, emergency services are currently attempting to sedate the other wolves nearby.

“It’s very unusual for something like this to happen, but it has happened before,” Olof Liberg, wolf expert at Sweden’s University of Agricultural Sciences (Sveriges lantbruksuniversitetSLU) said to TT.

“Zoo animals aren’t afraid of humans and accidents can happen,” he continued.

Liberg has yet to familiarize himself with this specific case, but said that accidents like this one often occur because of a breach in routine, and notes that wolves are especially dangerous when a zookeeper goes in alone.

Neglected horse’s hooves were half a metre long, says vet

Comments Off on Neglected horse’s hooves were half a metre long, says vet

A horse owner in Sweden has been reported to the police after a vet found a horse with overgrown hooves measuring half a metre in a stable on his farm.

The 27-year-old gelding could no longer walk or lie down, head vet for Vasternoorrland County, Helena Ahlqvist, told a local newspaper.

His hooves had not received attention for many years, she added.

A government vet visited the farm, near Solleftea in northern Sweden, in late November and found “Charlie” in a very depressed state.

He was put down, along with four other horses that were also suffering from neglect.

Ms Ahlqvist said the horse owner had been reported to the police and may face charges of animal cruelty

MAY FACE CHARGES…WTF…THIS GUY SHOULD GET JAIL…NO EXCUSE WHAT SO EVER…A PERSON WHO KNOWS NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT HORSES KNOWS THEY DON’T LOOK OR EVER SHOULD LOOK LIKE THAT!!!!
