Information about the Yulin Dog Meat Festival

Here is a list of the various levels of corruption I found connected to the festival:

*STOLEN PETS

“An animal rights lawyer in Beijing said that official claims that all dogs are bred by local dog farmers is false. An Xiang said according to research there are no such farms and that all dogs are abducted from the streets.”

“It is thought most dogs are pets or strays abducted from streets. Vendors then buy them for around nine yuan (85p) and sold for 25 yuan. People who steal the dogs make the biggest profits of all, the news agency said.

*CRIMINAL LAWS ARE BROKEN

“Some of the animal thieves broke Criminal Law using weapons to threaten residents to hand over their dogs,” Li said.

*MEAT NOT PROPERLY QUARANTINED

“Another risk factor highlighted is poor food safety. Liu Lang, director of the Beijing Small Animal Veterinary Association said butchers slaughtering the dogs are at risk of rabies, while the meat is not properly quarantined or inspected, increasing the chance of food safety problems.”

“While a quarantine regulation on dogs and cats was introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture last year, meaning all cats and dogs had to be quarantined before transport, this is rarely observed, he added.”

*ILLEGAL SLAUGHTERHOUSES

“Li said there were no dog farms or slaughterhouses that safely produce dog meat: “I was told there are four major workshops that produce dog meat in the city. I visited them and found all of them had no business licences or certificates.”

*UNCONSTITUTIONAL TO PROTECT ONE GROUP BUT NOT THE OTHER

“Medical staff have been banned from attending the dog meat festival by health authorities from three local hospitals: “According to the directive issued by higher authorities, hospital staff are prohibited from having dog meat at food stalls, restaurants or hotels in Yudong and Fumian districts,” the notice read.”

*HIDING THE FACTS/TRUTH

“According to South Morning China Post, local restaurants have been ordered to cover the word, dog, on signs to appease protesters: “Food safety authorities told us to change our signboards due to the objection of certain dog lovers,” staff members reportedly said.”

*LOCAL YULIN GOVERNMENT STILL CULPABLE*IT’S UNCONSTITUTIONAL TO NOT PROTECT YOUR CITIZENS“In Yulin, local authorities have stressed that they had no hand in organizing the controversial dog fest.

(http://www.worldcrunch.com/china-2.0/china-traditional-dog-meat-recipes-v.-new-animal-rights-activism/animal-rights-animals-shark-fins-dog-pets-wildlife/c9s17554/#.VI1hztKG89l)

Conclusion: Corruption is flagrant and decimating China’s cats and dogs ruins China’s reputation, threatening their economy.

Conclusion: The YDMF is detrimental to the social and moral development of China’s citizens.

Conclusion: China needs to develop animal welfare laws and not use the YDMF to “clean-up” their stray cats and dogs.

Conclusion: Allowing the YDMF to continue, contravenes the Chinese Constitution and other laws and administrative regulations because every aspect of the YDMF is illegal and makes China look bad in the world’s eyes. There is more to this festival than China’s ability and freedom to eat cats and dogs and the  false health benefits derived from part-taking in the consumption of cat and dog meat, but the festival enables corruption to run rampant throughout China and its bordering countries, like Vietnam. It is imperative to the people of China, specifically for the prosperity of their children, for the good of their social and moral development and the benefit of good health, that the local YuLin government be encouraged to cancel the festival.

The annual YuLin Summer Solstice Dog Eating Festival takes place on June 21st, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, People’s Republic of China.

This video demonstrates the cruelty cats and dogs go through prior to the festival. Their journey to the festival is wrought with much pain and agony. Because there are no animal welfare protection laws in China, saving them from the sordid dog meat trade (DMT) is difficult. The owners of stolen pets have no recourse either because laws are not broken.

Take action with us to help permanently remove cat and dog meat from the Yulin Festival in China.

“Sorry, still not up to my usual fighting spirit, but just got hold of this story, my apologies if it is not in time/date order: Can’t stay on PC long enough due to pain, to establish all facts, but hopefully enough here for people to check out! Perhaps I’m missing something here, but how the hell did that little puppy sustain those injuries???How does a tiny puppy suffer a fractured skull, a fractured femur and brain trauma resulting from blunt force; just from being tossed from a car??? Something is clearly very wrong here, I just hope this women, is never allowed to own dogs of any size, ever again…I feel sorry for the daughter having such a heartless person as a mother! STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A dog fight between a rescue group and the ASPCA is looming over the care of Charlotte the puppy who was battered, stuffed in a plastic bag and tossed near the railroad tracks in Bay Terrace.

Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Northeast (SNARR) is bearing its fangs by hiring an attorney to fight the ASPCA for the custody of Charlotte the 15-week-old puppy who is being treated at an undisclosed medical facility.

“SNARR met with an attorney yesterday and we are actively trying to get Charlotte back to our rescue for the remainder of her care, treatment and rehabilitation,” said a post on the SNARR Facebook Charlotte’s Place–A Journey of Hope” page.

Alsu Ivanchenko, 34, of the 3400 block of Hylan Boulevard is scheduled to appear at Stapleton Criminal Court on Monday in connection with the incident.

SNAAR maintains that since the NYPD has collected evidence and arrested a suspect “there is no need for the city to continue retaining custody of Charlotte. Unfortunately, the city and the ASPCA do not share the same opinion.”

ASPCA employees brought the dog under their care just as doctors on Staten Island prepared for her transfer to SNARR’s animal care facility based in White Plains, N.Y.

Ms. Ivanchenko made her $3,500 bail on Thursday after being  arraigned on Wednesday on one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeanor counts of torturing and injuring animals and abandonment.

Charlotte has a fractured skull, a fractured femur and brain trauma resulting from blunt force impact because of her ordeal. Ms. Ivancheko allegedly admitted in court documents that she couldn’t afford medical treatment for the Maltese-Shih Tzu mix, who she named Snowflake, so she put the little dog in a bag and threw the injured animal from her car onto the side of the road in Bay Terrace on Sept. 12..

Good Samaritans on the night of Sept. 12 found Charlotte clinging to life in a black plastic bag in weeds near the fence outside the Staten Island Railway tracks.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The next step in the legal odyssey facing the Bay Terrace woman accused of leaving a critically injured puppy for dead in a plastic bag by the train tracks takes place on Monday.

Alsu Ivanchenko, 34, of the 3400 block of Hylan Boulevard, is due to appear at Stapleton Criminal Court.

She obviously likes to look nice…but doesn’t give a shit about another sentient being who is only months old! How did that puppy sustain those injuries???? Picture by

http://www.silive.com/southshore/index.ssf/2014/09/alsu_ivanchenko_woman_accused.html#incart_story_package

Barring a last-minute resolution to the case — which seems extraordinarily unlikely at this juncture — prosecutors and her attorneys will have a conference with the judge and the case will be adjourned until a later date.

The court opens at 9:30 a.m., but it is not known what time her proceeding will take place.

Prosecutors charged Ms. Ivanchenko with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals during her arraignment on Wednesday, after she allegedly disposed of her puppy, Snowflake, in a plastic bag in the weeds near the railroad in Bay Terrace, then bought a new dog to replace the pet. She also faces two misdemeanor charges.

Snowflake continues to fight for her life with myriad injuries after good Samaritans happened upon her.

If prosecutors intend to proceed with the felony charge against her, they will present the case to a grand jury.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A few neighbors in the quiet Bay Terrace community said they didn’t even know Alsu Ivanchenko owned a dog, and were shocked to learn of the horrific accusations against the Russian-born woman.

And now, they don’t want anything to do with her. “I just said ‘hi and bye.’ But I don’t plan on talking to her either,” one neighbor said. “I didn’t even know she had a dog. It’s terrible, disgusting. I love animals. I can’t believe anyone would do anything like that.”

Some residents said the 34-year-old Bay Terrace resident was friendly, but didn’t know her too well. They paint a woman who’s had a rough few months after splitting with her husband, having her home go into foreclosure and now having to fight animal cruelty charges.

Ms. Ivanchenko, according to a person who is friendly with her, separated from her husband, Rusian (Russell) Ivanchenko, a few months ago, and the two had an altercation on July 4th weekend.

The husband, according to court records, has a pending criminal case in Stapleton Criminal Court. He was charged with misdemeanor counts of assault and criminal obstruction of breathing and a lesser count of harassment in connection with a July 4 incident. Ivanchenko is accused of throwing his wife to the ground, kicking her in the the ribs and choking her, according to allegations in court documents.

Ms. Ivanchenko took out a temporary order of protection against her husband, which is in effect until the case is resolved, a criminal court spokesman said.

He is due back in court Oct. 2. He lives in Brooklyn and Ms. Ivanchenko has lived at the home on Hylan Boulevard for nine years and is unemployed, the person who knew her said. The couple shares one daughter, who attends grammar school and is about 8 or 9 years old, the neighbor said.

“I feel bad for the kid,” one neighbor said. “She has a beautiful little child that’s going to suffer.”

Ms. Ivanchenko is accused of severely injuring the 3-month old Maltese Shih Tzu, Charlotte, stuffing her body in a black shopping bag and dumping it by the Bay Terrace railway Friday, police said.

A source with knowledge of the case said she told investigators a different story. Ms. Ivanchenko said she went to Florida for a few days at the end of August, and left the dog with a friend, the source said. When she came back from her trip, she noticed the puppy was acting differently, not eating and wasn’t playful.

She took the dog to Animal Health Veterinary Group in New Dorp where she was told it needs a lot more treatment, the source said. Ms. Ivanchenko paid for the office visit and then got three more opinions on the dog’s condition, but all were too expensive.

“What do you want, my daughter to starve so I can take care of my dog?” the source said Ms. Ivanchenko told police.

She was arrested Tuesday and arraigned on Wednesday evening. Her boyfriend posted the $3,500 bail and she was released early Thursday morning.

“I never really saw the dog. I know her daughter would talk about it,” said one person who knew her but wished to remain anonymous. “I recognized the dog from the pink bow on her head when I saw it online. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve seen her brushing the dog on the porch.”

Ms. Ivanchenko allegedly bought a new dog for her daughter after she disposed of Charlotte’s body Friday, police said. One witness said they saw detectives remove the new puppy from the home. The animal was surrendered to the NYPD and is in the care of ASPCA, a law enforcement source said.

Ms. Ivanchenko declined comment when reached at her home Thursday afternoon.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Bay Terrace woman accused of maliciously harming and disposing of her helpless puppy later bought a new dog for her daughter, police said.

Puppy thrown out like trash after being abused!!

“She tossed Snowflake like garbage and threw [the dog] out the window, then went out and bought a new puppy,” the prosecution alleged during Alsu Ivanchenko’s arraignment in Criminal Court in Stapleton Wednesday evening. “The defendant has no remorse and no respect for that dog.”

According to the criminal complaint, Ms. Ivanchenko told police, “Just give me my misdemeanor so I can get out of here. It’s just a dog.”

Ms. Ivancheko, 34, allegedly admitted in court documents that she couldn’t afford medical treatment for the 3-month-old Maltese-Shih Tzu mix, who she named Snowflake, so she put the little dog in a bag and threw the injured animal from her car onto the side of the road in Bay Terrace on Friday. “But how did the puppy sustain those injuries??”

The dog was renamed Charlotte after being rescued Friday.

“I was afraid for my daughter to get upset, so I got her a new dog,” Ms. Ivanchenko says in the criminal complaint.

But during court proceedings Wednesday, Ms. Ivanchenko’s lawyer told the judge that the defendant denies she purchased a new puppy.

“She does feel remorse,” the defense attorney told the court.

Ms. Ivanchenko, police said, intentionally injured the animal and abandoned its body beside Bay Terrace Boulevard, at the corner of Hopkins Avenue and South Railroad Avenue.

Dr. Robert Reisman of the ASPCA said he examined Charlotte and determined she had a fractured skull, a fractured femur and brain trauma resulting from blunt force impact, according to court documents.

The prosecution asked for $20,000 bail, and said Ms. Ivanchenko is unemployed and her house is in foreclosure.

Judge Alan J. Meyer set bail at $3,500. A man who identified himself as Ms. Ivanchenko’s friend was attempting to get the cash to bail her out, but it was not clear if she made bail. He declined comment for the story. Ms. Ivanchenko’s attorney also declined comment.

She is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of torturing and injuring animals and abandonment. If convicted on the top count, she faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

Ms. Ivanchenko is scheduled to return to court Sept. 22.

THE STORY OF CHARLOTTE

The medical team at the Animal Health Veterinary Group recognized Charlotte from previous visits after seeing a picture of the puppy wearing a pink bow that has been making the rounds on the Internet, according to a source with knowledge of the case.

Staff then contacted the NYPD and provided information about the owner and the puppy.

The owner, Alsu Ivanchenko, 34, of Bay Terrace, is scheduled to be arraigned in Stapleton Criminal Court on Wednesday on animal cruelty charges.

The pet, then called Snowflake, was brought to the animal clinic location at 2300 Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp by Ms. Ivanchenko in the mid-afternoon last Friday, the source said.

Charlotte was lying down and unable to stand or walk when seen at the clinic last Friday, the source said. Ms. Ivanchenko offered no explanation to clinic staff about what happened to Charlotte other than to say that the dog was fine before it lied down in that manner three days earlier.

The owner refused medical advice — which was either diagnostics and treatment or humane euthanasia — and left the office, according to the source.

Charlotte was found — battered and barely alive and in a black shopping bag — by Good Samaritans at about 9 p.m. on Friday.

The source added that Charlotte, currently 15 weeks old, was fine when she received her first set of puppy vaccines over the summer.

After Good Samaritans rescued Charlotte, the puppy was initially taken to South Shore Animal Hospital in New Dorp. Charlotte has since been transferred to another undisclosed hospital where she remains in critical condition — but is improving — from injuries that include skull and leg fractures.

“Finally a judge with the balls to jail those who abuse animals!”

Stealing and abusing a puppy got a 21-year-old Lake Charles man a 10-year prison sentence, KPLC-TV and the American Press reported, and he will have to spend four years of that term behind bars.

A Lake Charles man has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges, getting a 10-year sentence, of which four years will be served, for stealing a pit bull puppy and then abusing him. Halo, who is now in good health after being rehabilitated with the Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue, had broken bones and pellet bullet wounds when a mail carrier found him in December. (Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue)

Tyler Scott Sanders pleaded guilty this week to aggravated cruelty to animals and theft of animal, the news outlets reported.

The charges came after a pit bull named Halo was found with pellet gun wounds, a broken skull and other broken bones, law enforcement officials told KPLC-TV.

Halo was stolen in August, and a mail carrier found the animal in November, when he was about six months old.

Halo was taken in by the Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue, which rehabilitated him.

He has some ongoing health issues but is up and running, according to the Team Halo Facebook page, which has chronicled the puppy’s recovery and the court case.

There’s a possibility that his front right leg may have to be amputated. It’s an inch shorter than the other legs and he’s still growing so it may eventually bother him,” Jess Single, with the Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue, said Saturday. “Right now he runs and plays with the others well.

Single and Renee Smith, along with other volunteers with the rescue group, praised the judge and prosecutor for taking the case seriously.

“The DA’s office worked non stop to also make sure that justice was served. They fell in love with Halo and made sure that a message was sent that animal abuse is not tolerated in this parish,” Smith wrote on Facebook.

A judge imposed a 10-year prison term, then suspended half of the sentence, and said Sanders would have to spend 85 percent of it behind bars, plus pay for medical bills and a $5,000 fine, the news outlets reported.

Death threats for star Cheltenham jockey in row over dead horses

Comments Off on Death threats for star Cheltenham jockey in row over dead horses

“I have always disagreed with horse racing because most of the horses are usually too young to compete”

Ruby Walsh attacked on Twitter for comments describing animals as replaceable

  • Ruby Walsh created controversy when he said animals are replaceable after Our Conor suffered fatal fall at Cheltenham on first day
  • One tweet: ‘Ruby Walsh I hope you get your skull crushed by one of the horses you’re so heartlessly flippant about…’
  • On Wednesday, Mail reported how Walsh, who has twice won the Grand National, said there is a difference between death of a human and a horse

A star jockey has received death threats after he played down the death of a horse during a race.

Animal rights campaigners have accused the 34-year-old Irishman of being callous, while others have bombarded him with threats.

One tweeted: ‘Ruby Walsh I hope you get your skull crushed by one of the horses you’re so heartlessly flippant about. Animals should not die for sport.’

Another added: ‘Shame more jockeys aren’t killed instead of beautiful horses!!!!!! All jockeys are complete c**ts!! No horse is replaceable!’

Ruby Walsh created controversy when he said that animals are replaceable after Our Conor suffered a fatal fall at Cheltenham on the first day of racing. Above, Our Conor (right) ridden by jockey Daniel Mullins

While another wrote: ‘@Ruby Walsh Don’t worry if you die in a race, there’ll be someone to replace you too.’

On Wednesday, the Mail reported how Ruby Walsh, who has twice won the Grand National, said that there is a difference between the death of a human and a horse.

He said: ‘It’s sad, but horses are animals, outside your back door. Humans are humans. They are inside your back door.

‘You can replace a horse. You can’t replace a human being. That’s my feeling on it.’

Dene Stansall of campaign group Animal Aid told the Mail: ‘He has shown callousness for the animals that have earned him a good living.

‘It’s completely disrespectful. To treat the death of a horse in such a way shows that they are merely machines for people to make money.

‘Ruby Walsh is the leading jockey at Cheltenham and wants to support the event as much as he can, but you cannot disregard the lives of horses just because they are not humans.

‘We would expect more from him. This shows he has got little empathy for a horse that really suffered before it died.’

‘Lacking respect’: Ruby Walsh, seen after taking a record sixth Mares’ Hurdle title at the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday, has been attacked by animal rights activists

Ingrid Newkirk, founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta), said: ‘Walsh’s comments expose the true emotion behind horseracing: greed. They are deeply offensive to anyone who has ever loved and lost a horse or other beloved animal companion.

‘Unlike Walsh, horses are not unfeeling but experience joy, anxiety, fear and affection, just as human beings do.’

Mr Walsh last night declined to comment on the threats against him. He told the Mail: ‘I didn’t even know about it.’ Dozens of messages criticising Walsh have been sent directly to his Twitter account.

One user, with the profile name Amy, wrote: ‘Do you hate horses because you are so short and this makes you angry?’

Another posted: ‘YOUR (sic) AN IDIOT!! ‘A horse can be replaced’ really??? So can jockeys so I hope you fall off a horse & get trampled!’

Since the furore, Mr Walsh’s father, trainer Ted Walsh, has compared Britain’s attitude on the issue to that in Ireland.

He said of the UK: ‘It’s a funny country. They can remember the names of horses that got blown up by the bombs in London but not the names of the people riding them.’

The British Horse racing Association has stressed that the welfare of horses is ‘paramount’ at races such as Cheltenham. “So I have to ask….why are they racing horses on flat or over jumps when the horses are not mentally & physically ready for such a task>”

A spokesman said: ‘Cheltenham Racecourse employs eight veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse.

‘In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate attention and treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team.” I.E put them to sleep, because they can be fixed but wouldn’t be worth any money to the owners or syndicate if they are not bring the money home;plenty more being bred for this very reason!!!”

‘Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.

‘If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the most appropriate equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

‘British Racing is open and transparent about the risks involved in the sport – the BHA Veterinary team monitors injury rates at every licensed racecourse. Over the last 15 years, the equine fatality rate has fallen by one third to 0.2 per cent of all runners. “OK, then go look at the Animal Aids ” Race Horse Death”? That will tell you exactly where, when & who was the jockey….I don’t know of any other site where I could get that information from!! http://www.horsedeathwatch.com/

‘Despite the best efforts of all involved, as with participation in any sport involving speed and athleticism, there remains an inherent risk of injury.’

STOP PRESS: REPORTS OF THIRD HORSE DEAD AT CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL

Posted 12 March 2014

A four-year-old horse, inexperienced over the jumps and ridden by a young, inexperienced jockey, became the second victim of the 2014 Cheltenham Festival. Akdam broke a foreleg racing in the 16.40 Juvenile Handicap Hurdle. On the Festival’s opening day (Tuesday), Our Conor suffered what turned out to be fatal spinal injuries in the Champion Hurdle race.Akdam was running in a hotly contested, crowded race, featuring 24 horses. His ‘conditional’ jockey, Josh Hamer, was up against leading riders including, AP McCoy, Tom Scudamore and Ruby Walsh.Akdam had been entered into 20 previous races, 11 of them hurdle events, the others on the flat or all-weather courses. In fact, he was bred to race on the flat but ended up at a very young age being put over jumps.Says Dene Stansall, Horseracing Consultant, Animal Aid:

‘Akdam died in a race that was rough messy and hazardous. No doubt racing’s apologists will offer yet another unconvincing excuse for why this horse suffered this violent end.

Animal Aid’s recent report points to Cheltenham as being the course on which more horses die than any other in the country. Akdam’s brutal end brings to 50 the number who have perished at the Gloucestershire course since Animal Aid launched the online Deathwatch database in March 2007.’

Stop press: It is reported this evening (Wednesday) that the Festival has claimed a third victim. Five-year-old Stack The Deck was destroyed after fracturing a knee in the 17.15 Champion Bumper.News Link:http://www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/NEWS/news_horse/ALL/3066//

The dark side of horse racing

  • They can be heard screaming in terror as they are restrained by researchers
  • They are later killed and dissected, before bodies are dumped in bin as waste
  • One employee can be heard saying ‘That’s you done, you can go in our bin’

Eating: Some had reportedly been imported into the UK from overseas breeding farms at just a few weeks old – causing them to suffer from ulcers, high temperatures and weight loss. Above, dinner time at the centre.

A horrific video has emerged showing puppies and kittens panicking as they wait to be dissected at an animal testing laboratory.

The footage was filmed as part of an undercover investigation by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) at the government-licensed centre.

It shows the animals – some as young as four-weeks-old – screaming, crying and whimpering as they are taken from their mothers and killed.

The video was taken by an investigator, known as ‘Susie’, who worked at the laboratory for eight months until December last year, according to the Sunday Express.

It shows puppies and kittens shrieking in terror as they are restrained by researchers – just seconds before they are given a lethal injection and cut up for examination.

Meanwhile, a black puppy can be heard screaming and thrashing around as two researchers prepare to take its blood at the centre, which is owned by US pharmaceutrical giant Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD).

And a young canine yelps loudly as a female employee struggles to find a suitable vein in his leg in which to inject him.

Oh dear. What a fuss, what a fuss,’ the woman can be heard saying. ‘Perhaps your leg was a bit sore. Was it from all those bleeds? Oh dear, oh dear.’

The employee eventually administers the lethal dose after trying the puppy’s other leg – before commenting: ‘That’s gotcha.’

Family: Many of the animals are born at the laboratory for the sole purpose of being dissected for examination at just a few weeks old – with their healthy mothers (including this dog, above) often killed just hours later Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2571532/Video-shows-distress-puppies-kittens-waiting-dissected-animal-testing-laboratory.html#ixzz2wSICAorm Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook

She then adds: ‘Put up a bit of a fight, didn’t you, yeah?’ The footage also shows scenes of puppies and kittens lying on operating tables as employees insert needles and cutting equipment into their bodies. In one particularly horrific scene, a researcher lifts a motionless puppy onto a table, saying: ‘Yes, this is where it gets messy. Right, OK. Come on then little fella.

Waiting to die: A staggering 92 puppies, 10 female dogs and at least 15 kittens were killed during the project

‘Let’s make sure you have departed before we start getting our bits and pieces.

‘A staggering 92 puppies, 10 adult female dogs and at least 15 kittens were killed during the investigation at the centre, according to BUAV.

However, the undercover investigator managed to rescue two adult dogs, Bonnie and Billie, and a five-month-old puppy, Oliver, during the project – while two others were rehomed.

Many of the animals are believed to have been born at the laboratory for the sole purpose of being dissected for examination at a young age – with their healthy mothers often killed just hours later.

Others had reportedly been imported into the UK from overseas breeding farms at only a few weeks old – causing them to suffer from ulcers, high temperatures and weight loss.

During the eight-month period, the facility also dissected a number of rabbits and chickens, according to BUAV.

Today, Michelle Thew, chief executive of BUAV, said the union had released the video in a bid to add transparency to the public debate about animal testing.

Action: Home Office minister, Norman Baker (above), is believed to have called for a full report into the laboratory’s activities

‘This is a secret the research industry would never want to be released into the public domain,’ she said.

‘Millions of families throughout the UK who share their homes and lives with cats and dogs will be appalled by these revelations.

‘It is unacceptable, not only that these animals are suffering and dying in this way, but that many of them could have been released into loving homes instead of being killed and discarded for convenience sake.’

She added that thousands of dogs and hundreds of cats are used in research every year in UK, despite widespread concern about their use.

Meanwhile, Home Office minister, Norman Baker, told the Sunday Express his department had carried out ‘a number’ of inspections at the  facility over the past year – but added that he has now called for a full report into the centre’s activities.

MSD told MailOnline that it ‘adheres to all regulatory standards of testing and development of vaccines’.

It added that it is obliged by law to test certain drugs on animals, including vaccines for kennel cough, parvovirus and feline calicivirus.

A spokesman said: ‘Animal well-being is core to our mission. All MSD animal health research is performed by qualified, trained personnel.

‘Our facilities are in full compliance with all laws and regulations, and procedures and facilities are regularly reviewed and inspected by relevant regulatory authorities.’

Anger is growing after video footage has emerged of a man striking a horse on the forehead with a stick, causing it to collapse.
Warning footage is upsetting – Men Laugh As One Strikes An Arabian Horse
Published on 15 Feb 2014

The perpetrator is seen to be laughing following the incident, as the horse appears to struggle to regain its feet.

The footage is believed to be of two Saudi men, according to reports. At the time of writing, nearly 500,000 people had viewed the footage on YouTube.

The animal was tied to a power pole when the incident occurred.

The reaction in Saudi Arabia has been swift, with efforts under way to identify those responsible.

The footage has been circulated widely online, with many Saudis demanding that those responsible be brought to justice.

Emir Abdelaziz Ben Saad Ben Jouli, a horse breeder in the Al-Ahsa region in the country’s east, is among those seeking the arrest of the men.

“I’ve put my telephone number on Twitter, asking people who have any information about these individuals to come forward so that the police can arrest them,” he was reported as saying on The Observers website.

“I was appalled when I saw the video. I can’t understand how anyone can treat a horse – or any other animalwith such cruelty.

“I have already contacted a lawyer in order to launch legal proceedings against these people. All I want is for them to be sent to prison so that they understand the gravity of their actions and, above all, serve as a warning for others,” he said.

“This act is even more incomprehensible given that the horse, especially the pure-bred Arabian, is a very respected and pampered animal here.”

Arabian horses played a major role in the unification of Saudi Arabia, he said. King Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia’s first monarch, and his men criss-crossed the country on the back of Arabian horse as they fought to unite the country at the start of the 20th century.

VIDEO Movie Trailers; CRY OF THE INNOCENT: The Voices That Can’t Speak

Comments Off on VIDEO Movie Trailers; CRY OF THE INNOCENT: The Voices That Can’t Speak

“BE THE CHANGE…Please support this movie; donate what you can! Read the information, digest it, then share it will everyone you know! Nobody needs the skin of an animal except the animal, their fur is to protect them from the elements; not us!!! Please do whatever you can to stop this inhumane trade; read the MISSION statement below, read the links & sign petitions, thanks!”

Every year, more than 50 MILLION fur-bearing animals, including man’s best friend and feline companion, are brutally murdered without mercy in the name of greed, vanity and ignorance.  The fur trade is criminal and an atrocity at the lowest level of inhumanity.  To address the issue of animal cruelty in our society is to address the complexity of the human condition and our collective consciousness, which perceives animals as commodities, rather than loving, sentient beings.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:  This compelling film reflects the need of a changing society and its revolution for evolution – not a battle with armor but a quest for spiritual epiphany and the redemption of our planet.

THE CRY OF THE INNOCENT: The voices that can’t speak

Published on 2 Dec 2013

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR:

This film speaks the voice of truth for those who cannot speak for themselves.  It does not rely on gruesome images as a means to convey the message, but it does reveal the reality.

This precedent-setting film will unveil the spiritual truth behind the veil of a culture that perpetuates the holocaust of animals for personal gain.  Its pure intent is to probe into the deeper level of the psyche, so that the nemesis can be healed.

If we cannot witness inhumanity, we cannot empower humanity, and we fail as a “human” species.  If we are not willing to hear their cries or experience their terror, then we are not willing to bear witness to the truth, which is the only path to redemption and transformation.

This film is one that needs to be made, for it would be a tragedy of epic proportions to passively consent to the silence of mass murder for profit and self-aggrandizement.

I have asked myself the question: If not me, then who?  Someone needs to make this film, to beckon the soul of humanity to awaken.  That’s us, you and me.  If not us, then who?  If not now, when?

Without our voice, the animals have no voice.

Thank you for your support of this critical film, on behalf of the animals and humanity on our planet.

Animal rights is the greatest social justice issue of our time

MISSION

“A lie goes half way around the world before truth puts on its boots.” – Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens)

What is the state of our world’s conscience when we can tolerate the needless and horrific act of a sentient being skinned alive for its fur and empower the industry that profits from such atrocity?

Social responsibility, ecological preservation and evolution of consciousness are the challenges of this decade.  It is evident that we have not yet fully evolved as a society when the unconscionable practices and cruelty of the fur trade, and the inhumane suffering of all afflicted animals, is still a reality in the 21st century.  The killing of defenceless animals is an atrocity and reprehensible violation of the innocent, and should no longer be tolerated in a civilized and evolved society.

What is the price an innocent animal must pay for the sake of commerce, in the guise of fulfilling society’s needs?  Does our desire for material adornment outweigh human compassion and empathy?

How can we witness the massacre of innocent baby seals taken from their mother while nursing in Canadian waters and condone such an egregious act by continuing to invest in Canadian products, tourism and Canada’s stock market?

What is the state of society’s consciousness when man’s “best friend” and “feline companion” are mutilated and heinously killed for the skin on their bodies?  Where are the laws to protect them?  And why do we continue to invest in China and export their products to North America?

The impetus that drives the fur trade is the fashion industry, and film is the most powerful medium in which to convey the truth.

This precedent-setting film will leave an indelible imprint on the soul of humanity, intuitively evolving the collective consciousness toward sustainable change by bridging the link to cruelty through the soul perspective, with its center on the fur trade as a paradigm of a larger nemesis permeating our world.

AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY ON OUR PLANET

This critical film is a calling for transformational social evolution.

The impact of the film’s message will intuitively evolve the collective consciousness toward fundamental and sustainable change and iinstilthe principles of compassion, empathy, love and humanity on our planet, and in turn, save the lives of countless animals around the globe. The power of respect will change our world.

We will unite in a new world paradigm that stands in the power of good that will forever overcome the forces of evil and harm to all sentient beings and mother earth.

The way our animals are treated is the moral and spiritual compass of our humanity.

The World Will Change Through You.  No Other Means Can Save It.

IF NOT YOU, THEN WHO?  IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

Advocates wait outside Olympic Animal Sanctuary to see conditions for dogs: Arrest Made

Comments Off on Advocates wait outside Olympic Animal Sanctuary to see conditions for dogs: Arrest Made

FORKS, Wash. — It’s a noble cause: Give sanctuary to dangerous dogs whose only other option is being euthanized. But critics say the man who runs the Olympic Animal Sanctuary has failed that mission and the many dogs in his care should be removed.

Despite concerns over living conditions for dogs at a Forks, Wash., dog sanctuary, town officials have elected not to shut down the Olympic Animal Sanctuary (OAS) – this morning, animal advocates from Dogs Deserve Better arrived to see the dogs’ living conditions first hand.

Dogs Deserve Better founder Tamira Thayne and Rescue Coordinator Robin Budin arrived to the “sanctuary,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The organization had placed a dog named “Sonny,” in the care of OAS and following claims that the dogs at the sanctuary are neglected, they have decided that they want the dog back.

The following was posted about the women’s attempt to see Sonny:

Steve Markwell’s vehicle was not on the premises but he sent two policeman to ensure that we did not trespass on his property. We bear signs saying “We are here for our tour” and “We’d like to see Sonny now”, These are perfectly reasonable requests.

It is 29 degrees here right now and we are told the building isn’t heated. We can hear all the dogs barking. They will bark all day while we are here. We will stay here until three in hopes that Markwell will give us a tour and our dog back.

In September, KOMO News conducted an investigative report on the sanctuary, which has come to be known to many as the “sanctuary of sorrow.”

Critics have accused OAS, which is owned and operated by Steve Markwell, of housing dogs in small, dirty crates and pens. Markwell could not disprove the critics when KOMO News investigators arrived because he denied them entry.

Former volunteers for OAS told KOMO News that OAS is:

  • A hell hole for these animals
  • An absolute nightmare

Even a Forks police officer found the living conditions to be less-than-ideal.

Despite the statements from former volunteers and a local police officer, the authorities and town officials have done nothing to shut OAS down.

On Thursday morning, a recount of what took place on Wednesday was published, including photos taken by the women who were hoping to see the conditions inside – read more here.

Company Overview

Dogs Deserve Better, 2003 First Place Winner of the ASPCA/Chase Pet Protector Award, is a voice for chained and penned dogs, whose sadness speaks only through the eyes. As the days become years, many of these dogs sit, lay, eat, and defecate within the same 10-foot radius. Chained by the neck, they exist without respect, love, exercise, social interaction, and sometimes even basic nourishment. They live as prisoners, yet long to be pets.

Arrested for the Dogs at OAS in Forks Washington, December 6, 2013

Published on 8 Dec 2013 arrested

On December 6, 2013, Dogs Deserve Better founder Tamira Thayne was peacefully protesting on behalf of the dogs trapped in cages at the Olympic Animal Sanctuary in Forks, Washington. She was arrested due to a bogus restraining order filed by the sanctuary founder in an attempt to silence her and interfere with her constitutionally protected rights of free speech.

Many have been trying to get help for these dogs for at least two years. Complaints have been filed by former volunteers and neighbors, and Forks Police did investigate, finding horrendous conditions, in November 2012 but never followed through with a cruelty arrest. Instead, they made a deal with the founder of OAS that he would cut down the number of dogs to 60. This deal has not been honored, and rescue groups attempting to get dogs returned to them from the warehouse conditions have been denied.

Rescue exists for every dog in the facility, and groups stand by to get their dogs returned or released to other rescues for evaluation and rehabilitation whenever possible. Yet OAS refuses to allow anyone inside to see conditions or to return any dogs.

During the time that DDB founder Tamira Thayne and rescue coordinator Robin Budin protested outside the facility from December 4-6, no one was observed entering or leaving the premises to care for the dogs. No dogs were walked, and only one dog was visible in the outside yard. The dogs cried in unison repeatedly all throughout the day. They were not allowed in and instead were met by police to ensure they didn’t trespass. We are told the warehouse isn’t heated, and even if it were there are large gaps in the wall panels and windows upstairs remain open even in driving snow and temperatures in the lower twenties.

Help is needed for legal fees for DDB founder Tamira Thayne and Robin Budin, due to the attempts to thwart their free speech with restraining orders and the subsequent arrest and jailing of Tamira Thayne.

A dog’s life at Olympic Animal Sanctuary is portrayed as wonderful, with the dogs residing at the facility being well cared for.  Photos on this site show the true life of a dog at Olympic Animal Sanctuary, and that reality is much different than the pretty picture that is verbally painted on the organization’s website.

No dog should live like this!

Animal Rescue Corps made the incredible offer to the City of Forks providing a safe alternative for removal of the dogs, but, as of November 2013, Forks Authorities have continued to refuse their offer.

Please join in our effort to bring an end to their suffering and get them safely rescued and into facilities where they will be better taken care of, or forever homes, if they are deemed adoptable.

Please contact the authorities listed in the link below — ask elected officials why they are allowing the dogs to remain in these conditions and why they aren’t adhering to animal abuse laws:-  http://olympicanimalsanctuary.info/be-their-voice.html

FORKS, Wash. — Pressure continues to build on a controversial dog shelter in Forks that’s accused of severely mistreating its animals.

A lawsuit has now been filed against the man who runs the Olympic Animal Sanctuary, accusing him of “failing to provide adequate and humane care” for a dog named Leroy and refusing to give back the dog placed there temporarily.

A Personal Note From Me

Comments Off on A Personal Note From Me

Dear followers

I hope most of you got the post about me being unwell, I’m so very sorry my illness has kept me away for so long! Unfortunately, I’m still not 100% & need to be back in hospital Tuesday 17th for a small operation, but I’m hoping things go to plan & I get home for Christmas.  So until then, I will try to post as much as my pain allows.

However, in the New Year I will be having further surgery on my spine, I have no idea how long I will be out of action for, but I will make sure someone keeps you posted. I can assure you, it upsets me to think animals are suffering & I’m not able to help them by telling their stories; so I will get back to normal posting as soon as is possible.

As this is linked to these accounts, my apologise for not replying to messages on Twitter or Facebook, having just had a quick glance; I see I have a lot to catch up with. Please don’t think I have been ignoring any personal messages or request to post news; I really haven’t been well enough to do much of anything. I will get round to answering them all as soon as I am able, bearing in mind I will be out of action again after my spinal surgery in the New Year. It’s going to take quite some time to catch up, I have never been away for so long before, so please bear with me!!

To enable me to catch up, I have had to delete a lot of news items sent via Email (which will hopefully have been covered by others ) on Word press blogs etc. However, I have kept & added lots more petitions to sign at the following:-

https://preciousjules1985.wordpress.com/more-up-to-date-petitions-that-need-your-signature-please/

I’ve also got some news stories I want to write-up, so please be aware, the date I post them to this blog, won’t be the date the story was first issued!

May I take this opportunity to wish you & your families A Very Happy, Healthy, Joyful Christmas & A Bright & Prosperous New Year.

Jules
