Pet dog found skinned on the brink of death

(WBRC) – A dog owner in Alabama believes her pet was skinned alive.

The dog was found on the brink of death and in such bad shape, it had to be euthanized.

“Bama” had to be euthanized after it received the devastating injuries.

Chilton County authorities are investigating this horrific incident.

Delana Dunnaway cannot remember “Bama” as the sweet little Chinese pug he was.  Instead, there is a disturbing, graphic, and heartbreaking image of her pet etched in her mind.

Dunnaway said, “I hope and pray it goes away but right now every time I think about him. I think about him being nothing but skin, bleeding.”

Dunnaway believes someone used a knife to skin her dog. She says Bama goes in and out through a doggie door and Friday morning, he went out and never came back.

Dunnaway’s son-in-law searched for him on their property. He found the 2-year-old pup in a wooded area, bleeding and barely alive.

Dunnaway said, “From the neck down there was nothing but raw meat, nerves, no hair on his legs.”

Dennis Potter, a manager at the Calera Animal Hospital, says what happened to the poor dog was not caused by another animal. It was intentional because the cuts were too precise.

Potter says there was nothing that could be done to save his life. Bama was euthanized.

Potter said, “Over 65 to 70 percent of the animal’s skin, plus fur were ripped off by a knife. There’s no way a body could regenerate that over a period of time. The animal was suffering.”

Dunnaway said, “I just don’t believe anybody that did this was sick, they were just evil.”

And Dunnaway says the person needs to be caught, before this happens to someone else’s pet or worse.

Dunnaway adds, “People are thinking it’s just a dog well it may have been, but the next step could be a child.” Dunnaway strongly believes if this person would do this to a little dog, then they’re probably capable of hurting a human being at some point.

The animal’s vet says it had trauma to its head, indicating the person who skinned him also hit the dog on the head with a blunt object.

She wants to know why someone would do this.

The state’s humane society is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction of a suspect.

HELENA, AL (WBRC)

A woman arrested on animal cruelty charges will find out if her foster children will be returned to her on Monday. They were put into child protective custody when police found them living in deplorable conditions.

Police say a tip led them to the home of Bonnie Lieberman in Helena. They say they found feces all over the place, including in areas where the children lived. They also found more than a dozen dogs, many malnourished.

Lieberman agreed to give up the animals, which are now being brought back to health before they are put up for adoption.

Police: Woman charged with animal cruelty for leaving dog carcass in yard – Video

HELENA, AL (WBRC) –

Helena Police say a dog breeder is facing animal cruelty charges because she left a dead Doberman in her backyard for a month. Bonnie Liberman is charged with animal cruelty, failure to dispose of an animal, and operating a business without a license.

Neighbors say the dog had heart worm and it eventually starved itself to death. Will Nall, 11, first discovered the dead dog when Liberman’s kids allegedly showed it to him.

“I mostly saw a dead dog and bones and organs laying out on the ground,” Will said.

Will’s mother took pictures of the Doberman nestled behind the Liberman’s air conditioner unit. Kellie Nall is furious her son was exposed to something like that.

“They told Will they wanted to show him something but not to tell me and they took Will into the backyard where the dog was dead and the youngest boy actually urinated on the dog,” said Kellie Nall.

Nall says she didn’t know what to do so she called police.

“We know the police were out here four times to tell them to get the dog up out of the yard because it was visible from the street,” Kellie said. “They finally did get the dog up but we have no idea what they did with it but I do know they made the oldest daughter clean the dog up and I think that’s terrible too.”

Helena Police Sgt. Chris Rowland says Liberman has two websites selling poodles and Doberman dogs. On those websites Liberman claims to be a breeder registered with the Animal Kennel Club.

FoOX6 contacted the AKC and they sent us this statement:

“If a written, signed, and substantiated complain regarding the care and conditions of a dog is received or if someone is charged by law enforcement and it violates the AKC’s inappropriate treatment of animals policy then the AKC would pursue the matter.”

FOX6 also contacted Liberman. She told us over the phone the allegations are not true. She says there were no dead animals in her yard.

Helena Police say their investigation isn’t over and they’re also looking into living conditions at the house since children live there.
